May 27th, 2008 12:04 am ET I have served two tours in Iraq, making the last tour my fourth overseas tour. I have a little more than five years to retire and at this point of my career I am tired! The support from the soldiers chain of command seems to get less and less every year. Despite all the programs the Army tries to emplament, there is nothing like a chain of command that soldiers believe care. Until that changes and the Army can increase and maintain a sufficient number of soldiers to serve, things will get worse before they get better. As a Senior NCO, I recommend to all my young soldiers to become officers ASAP. Enlisted soldiers are grossly underpaid and the GI Bill is a joke. |
