Morning….
She’s still here!!! YES,folks..Hillary Clinton crushed Barack Obama last night in the West Virginia primary! So she is not going anywhere anytime soon…NOT only did she win the blue collar white vote, but she won men, women and more importantly, young people. She used her big win in West Virginia to make her case that she has a better chance of beating the Republicans in the general election. “I am more determined than ever to carry on this campaign…I am in this race because I believe I am the strongest candidate. … I can lead this party to victory in the general election if you lead me to victory now.” Today, with her campaign in 20 million dollars in debt…she spends the day in Washington DC trying to convince fundraisers that she is still a viable contender. Candy Crowley will bring us up to speed on her future. Then Hillary sits down with Wolf Blitzer, we will have a lot of that interview on AC360 tonight, too. Barack Obama spends the day in Michigan, the so-called birthplace of the “Reagan Democrats,” that same voting block that launched Clinton to victory in West Virginia…interesting!! Suzanne Malveaux will be with Obama today where many say he is kicking off his campaign against John McCain…
There was lots of chatter last night from Clinton and her communications director, Howard Wolfsen, about “every vote must count.” Yes, the Florida and Michigan discussion is baaaaack… Tom Foreman will tackle the efforts by both campaigns to get those votes counted…AND John King will be at his way cool smart board looking at how Clinton pulled off this landslide, but more importantly what the next two primaries in Oregon and Kentucky mean….
AND let’s not forget John McCain…Gary Tuchman has been out hiking with the presumptive Republican nominee… BUT is McCain too old? Barack Obama says that John McCain “lost his bearings.” Obama denies that is a reference about age. But many other public figures are blunt about their belief that John McCain may be too old for the White House. Is it a valid issue? Or is such discussion out of bounds? Is John McCain wins, he would be the oldest person elected to a first term in the White House in the nation’s history….
AND I am sure we will bring you all the latest in China…where the official death toll reported by state-run media stands at just over 14,866….but an unofficial tally of individual communities provided by news services added up to 19,565…so sad…

May 14th, 2008 7:21 am ET I guess McCain’s age becomes the media hulabaloo just as race and gender did for Obama and Clinton. PLEASE report on real issues in the campaign. I’d rather have an older experienced man in the White House than a young, unexperienced one with no sense of reality in politics or foreign affairs. And Hillary has a point. If she can win the blocs she did, Obama isn’t so electable after all in a contest where more than a select few will come out and vote. The voters are deeply divided. Nothing is happening to bridge that gap because she is the better candidate and many know it. The Democrats should as a whole face reality here. But the horrors that their golden boy isn’t so golden after all… |

May 14th, 2008 7:40 am ET And she crushed him - Obama didn’t campaign there. She is still not going to be on the ticket. She is not even in Obama’s thoughts on being on his ticket. He can win - because just as McCain will get the Dem haters - Obama will be getting the Rep. haters as well. |

May 14th, 2008 8:15 am ET Okay what now change the rules for Hillary Clinton. How can anyone connect with the rich and powerful. This tell me is’t about Obama been black and that lots of white american would not and will not vote for anyone thats not of the same race with them. Hillary will not get back lots of the black vote every again because of what the Clinton’s have done pit white against black this is not good. In the back of my head how must i look and think about my white friend and co-works would out thinking about all of this. Just watch the state that are very racist. If all blacks was to leave america how would white treat each other of the same white race? This is a sad day in america to hear my parents talk about the 50’s and 60’s i feel like i’m leaving the 50’s and 60’s in 2008. This is killing my hope that make that whites think they are better than blacks. God made all man in his image we and bleed, eat and die the same way. virginia |

May 14th, 2008 8:24 am ET Hillary will never drop out and give this nomination over to Obama. She will take it as far as she can even if that means to the convention. She didn’t come this far to throw in the towel no matter what Dean or anyone else says. The only way she will leave is if Obama gets enough delegates to win, otherwise she is in for the long haul. Gary went hiking with John McCain!? That I have got to see!! I really don’t see John’s age being a big deal. There are a lot of older people that have more spunk and drive than the younger ones. Plus he is very seasoned in politics and world affairs. Isn’t that what a president supposed to be? |

May 14th, 2008 8:51 am ET I get so aggravated with Hilary Clinton and the media implicating that Barack Obama can’t attract “white blue collar workers.” Lets talk about what is really going on. There are many “white blue collar workers” that wouldn’t vote for Obama simply because he is black. It has nothing to do with his message or inability to reach them. It is simply based on the fact that “racism” is extremly alive in these areas. It is very ironic that the population in these areas are predominatley white and the African Amercian sample is almost non existent. Most of these people are direct decendants of racist families and they wouldn’t vote for a black man if he told them everything they wanted to hear. Turns out- most “white blue collar workers” make up the population of white racist voters who would only vote for a white candidate regardless. This is why when given the choice to back Obama or switch to Mccain they will ultimatley switch to Mccain. This is not an Obama issue and there is nothing that can be done about these “white blue collar workers” racist attitudes and their inability to vote based on the issues. For them, Race is most important issue. This is also why you see many African Amercians indicating that if Obama is not the nominee, they will still support Clinton. African Americans in general are not going to exercise racism in voting because we have always had a white president and we view clinton as a good candidate also. |

May 14th, 2008 9:10 am ET Does John McCain actually believe that Hagee’s “apology” toward Catholics has redeemed the mad? What about the other comments, such as Katrina. McCain is in trouble. McCain and the Republicans wish to define Obama and the Democrats as tax and spenders. That is going to be difficult because McCain himself pointed out the Bush is the only President in history to start a war, and not raise taxes to pay for it. McCain is in trouble. Republicans have lost 3 special elections recently, which they should have won handily. The candidates tried to make Rev. Wright an issue, and the strategy failed. Republicans are in trouble. How can Camp McCain dismiss one DCI lobbyist from their campaign, and not know that the CEO is working for the campaign, too? McCain and Republicans are in trouble. |
