The school sounds like it subscribes to feminist pedagogy which says kids learn best when they feel validated and their words are heard. It's more collaborative in nature. I spent a semester in my doctoral program playing with this in an independent study. I'll buy that, but not that African American kids learn differently because of brain structure.

There are many cultural differences that do affect children's styles of learning. I don't think this is anything new or controversial. That is also why standardized tests have been scrutinized in the past – as they are created from an understanding of white culture. These differences do matter and that's why some changes have been made since then..

learning among color is not a product of the brain, perhaps it is a product of experience. What would Jeremiah Wright say about mixed amerians, asians, or latinos. I think it is EXTREMELY ignorant to pit someones abilities in one group based on color, AND THEN to say America is set up to only cater to whites.

Smaller class size also makes a huge difference. There is more interaction with the teacher, and students are able to get more help.

Culture base or economic base really? It's a vicious cycle without education they can't get ahead but without some economic reforms they can't get education. In poorer homes, what's the priority books or food?
