Tonight, the Indiana and North Carolina primaries are just days away. We’re on the trail with both candidates as they vie for the 218 delegates that are up for grabs. And the presumptive Republican nominee was in Colorado where he said “My friends, I will have an energy policy that we will be talking about, which will eliminate our dependence on oil from the Middle East that will — that will then prevent us — that will prevent us from having ever to send our young men and women into conflict again in the Middle East.” What did he mean by that? And how could it play out in the election?
There’s a video floating around the internet that we’re going to take a look at. It’s a scene from “The War Room,” the documentary of Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign. The clip in question shows then Clinton campaign manager and current Hillary Clinton adviser Mickey Kantor uttering what sounds like a derogatory term for the people of Indiana. We don’t know who released this tape but we do know that it’s not true. We’ll take a look at other hit jobs like this and the impact they have on campaigns.
And we’re tracking severe weather in Arkansas. At least seven people were killed and at least 13 people were injured by what may have been a tornado.
Be sure to check out our new live web camera from the 360° studio. Tonight the shot will show Anderson behind the scenes on the set. We’ll turn the camera on at 945p ET and turn it off at 11p ET. LINK TO THE BLOG CAMERA
We’ll start posting comments to this blog at 10p ET and stop at 11p ET.

|

May 2nd, 2008 10:07 pm ET Bob - 23 superdelegates is hardly a big lead. Didn’t Clinton lead the superdelegate count by 200 at one point? |

May 2nd, 2008 10:09 pm ET Wow! For Barack Obama to scare people into thinking that Hillary Clinton’s proposed gas tax holiday would cost jobs and harm roads and bridges is so disingenous it almost rises to the level of dishonesty. |
|
| Tammy |
May 2nd, 2008 10:09 pm ET If she wins these next two, she really does have an argument with the supers at being more electable in big states. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:11 pm ET Good thing this is a political race and not horseshoes where almost is good enough. HIllary is losing in money raised, most popular count, and most delegates. The only people that think differently are thouse that think they can change the rules, and counts to fit them. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:11 pm ET I’m an educated voter for Hillary - I know the pundits are speaking in general about demographics, but I’m a bit weary of hearing that uneducated voters go for Hillary… |
|
| Tammy |
May 2nd, 2008 10:12 pm ET Is anyone else just sick of the rip apart e-mails about candidates? I swear if I have to look up another lie about Hillary or Obama to debunk it for the person who sent it to me I will scream. |
|
| Bob L from Philadelphia, PA |
May 2nd, 2008 10:13 pm ET You want to see electability, and I hope someone from CNN see this and points this out: Theory: Hillary is more electable. Evidence: NC primary. Hillary closed a 20 point gap, pulling in around 7 points without spending, spending, spending. People in NC are turning towards a candidate, the underdog, who puts herself out there less than the desperate to get and spend lead dog. That equals electability, when a candidate becomes more popular yet does not spend tons of money to do so. |
|
| Lisa - Ft. Lauderdale |
May 2nd, 2008 10:13 pm ET There is not much support in Congress for either the gas tax holiday or the windfall tax on oil companies - a President can suggest and push an agenda - but it takes a Congress to pass the laws.. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:13 pm ET Hey all…I saw the Video on CNN Election Center, trying to Slam the Clinton campagin…I really smell a RAT at the Obama Camp…This does NOT look good at all…I said it before, the Obama camp has being playing the race Card very suttle…and I am an Independent Black male…I do not subscribe to the race card playing NOT one bit. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:13 pm ET Hmmm, let me guess, Rev. Wright’s theory is wrong? I guess I have to wait and find out. Sounds interesting. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:13 pm ET Hey Michelle, I agree. It’s like saying that just because you are leading the game in all quarters, only the last one should count because that’s when your oppenent scores. If he’s leading, he is winning. Period |

| Kevin,FL |
May 2nd, 2008 10:13 pm ET If the election were held today, Hillary would beat Senator McCain, but Senator Obama would lose to the presumptive GOP nominee. According to the most recent polls available, Hillary would beat McCain by a margin of 279 to 259 Electoral Votes. But McCain would beat Obama by a margin of 291 to 247 Electoral Votes. |
|
| Carmen, Marina, CA |
May 2nd, 2008 10:14 pm ET I am so glad CNN is exposing the “doctored” War Room video from 1992 Bill Clinton campaign for the fraud it is. Who did the dubbing and paraded it on the Internet? And isn’t it interesting it comes out NOW, a few days before NC and Indiana? Hmmmm…. |

| Jo Ann, Ohio |
May 2nd, 2008 10:14 pm ET Lorie Ann: From the sublime to the ridiculous! There is something for everyone in this election. I am enjoying it immensely! |

May 2nd, 2008 10:14 pm ET Hey good for Hillary if you discuss Rev Wright’s theory. He didn’t even say anything the last couple days and here you are able to pull out this old tape. yeah! good for HRC! |
|
| Jacob |
May 2nd, 2008 10:14 pm ET I am a young male who has 2 college degrees. I am for Hillary Clinton. I am also a liberal. I wonder if the polls are accurate about young males voting more for Obama? I think the caucus states really aren’t an accurate indication of what that state voted since a caucus doesn’t have large turnout in terms of the number of registered voters. Caucus is less democratic so the exit polls shouldn’t be take serious. |
|
| Christina, Windber, PA |
May 2nd, 2008 10:14 pm ET I don’t think it’s so much “uneducated” voters supporting Hillary as people who have hit hard times. They may have a college degree, but can’t find a job, or lost theirs due to companies laying off to appeal to their stockholders. |
|
| Chuck in Alabama |
May 2nd, 2008 10:14 pm ET Tamm, I know the feeling. What is so scarey is that people are believing any email or youtube video they see without checking out the facts for themselves. |
|
| Max, Dallas, TX |
May 2nd, 2008 10:15 pm ET Tammy- I certainly am! I can’t count how many times I’ve had to explain to my Grandmother in Oklahoma that no, Obama isn’t a Muslim extremist, and no, McCain isn’t the best choice for president. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:15 pm ET “Is anyone else just sick of the rip apart e-mails about candidates?” That’s why I only pay attention to the emails that Anderson & Erica send. |
|
| Tammy |
May 2nd, 2008 10:16 pm ET @Lisa-I’m not for Hillary, but I know many extremely educated people who are and have supported the Clintons for years. It does annoy me, too, that education level is emphasized so much. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:16 pm ET North Carolina is 30% african american. I respect this community voting for Obama as I will support him if Hillary loses the nomination. But I think Hillary keeping North Carolina in single digits is a major victory if that happens. |
|
| EJ |
May 2nd, 2008 10:17 pm ET “I think the caucus states really aren’t an accurate indication of what that state voted since a caucus doesn’t have large turnout in terms of the number of registered voters. Caucus is less democratic so the exit polls shouldn’t be take serious.” Of course if Hillary won most of those caucuses the story would be different about how democratic they are. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:17 pm ET I agree with Gerg…the gas tax thing is just a way that Hillary is pandering! |

May 2nd, 2008 10:17 pm ET they are not going to buy more gas David we are trying to stay afloat |
|
| Paolo |
May 2nd, 2008 10:17 pm ET Indiana is the state to watch as either can claim an advantage. While it generally favours Clinton in a demographic sense, most of your reporters are right, the northwest part of the state gets news from the Chicago media market so it makes her work cut out for her. And yes, Gergen is right, a win is a win for Obama in North Carolina. I honestly think if she wins either state, it will only buy her time, probably not delegates in the long run. |
|
| Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada |
May 2nd, 2008 10:17 pm ET I don’t understand how Clinton or McCain want a gas tax holiday this summer…..how do they expect to do that when they really don’t have the authority to do it |

May 2nd, 2008 10:18 pm ET David Gergan, I want a lowwer cost of FUEL NOW, not 5 or 8yrs from now…30 dollars vs none…I do not have it…I will take 30 dollars right now…What has SEN Barack Obama proposed?…Nonething but, but “Campaign Gimmeck”…Give me a break |
|
| Janna |
May 2nd, 2008 10:19 pm ET The tax break isn’t intended to increase consumption-It’s clearly to give consumers a break in the wallet. Having said that, I don’t think it’s worth it… |
|
| Michelle in Los Angeles |
May 2nd, 2008 10:19 pm ET I like when I Iook at Senator Obama speeches/rallies and see the range of races supporting him. That is a picture of the world that I live in, young, old, black, white, asian, hispanic. As for Hillary, to be so against hope, and with her chances of winning being very slim, guess Hope is truely what she is holding on to. |
|
| mona |
May 2nd, 2008 10:19 pm ET David, you are right that gas tax story is pandering. Today it was reported, if she were to go for energy companies windfall, they will turn around(exxon, mobil) and stick tax payers with it. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:19 pm ET My heart goes out to my home state of arkansas as well, my family are all fine there, sorry for the others. i wanted to add my 2 cents worth on the gas tax, (no pun intended) but if the gas went UP 18 cents it would suddenly seem like a lot of money…… |

May 2nd, 2008 10:20 pm ET EJ, we had huge turnouts in MN for the caucuses. In fact, people walked one mile to get to the schools — and of course, one mile back to their cars. We had great discussions too…which you can’t have when you mark a ballot. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:21 pm ET “The gas tax exemption is TEMPORARY! While hopefully something else is thought of! Why not?” It will take away jobs from those who do the roads & highway repairs.. A quick fix that won’t help anything |

May 2nd, 2008 10:22 pm ET My hearts and prayers to all of the families and residents affected by the tornados today. I accidentally posted my prior blog about the democratic primary in the wrong area….apologize, I’m new at blogging. Again, prayers to all families and residents affected. |
|
| Emma |
May 2nd, 2008 10:22 pm ET Jacob, I agree with you. The media stressed that Hillary had to win Pennsylvania by double digits in order for it to be considered a “win.” Obama had a huge lead in NC and now it’s down to 8-10 points. Why isn’t the same standard being applied to him? |
|
| xtina, chicago |
May 2nd, 2008 10:22 pm ET on the other hand, taxing the profits of oil companies will NOT cause the oil companies to lower the price of gas |

May 2nd, 2008 10:22 pm ET Megan, it is called pandering- saying what they want to hear. I’d like to know what the difference between that and lying. For HIllary, pandering seems like more lies. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:22 pm ET I’m wondering how super tuesday states are feeling about Obama now. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:23 pm ET I dont like when people say this long race is hurting the Democrats because its not , First of the Democrats created this rule, now its playing out as it should, its hurting the party? what a bunch of BS, listen if they dont like the rule, change it back to winner take all, or hush.. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:24 pm ET How come we cannot hear the voices on the video so we can make up our own mind. |
|
| Karin |
May 2nd, 2008 10:24 pm ET Politics is a dirty game - an honest person doesn’t have a chance ever to be elected because people don’t want to hear the truth and buy into promises that can’t be fulfilled. |

| Barb Canada |
May 2nd, 2008 10:24 pm ET Take away jobs?…It’s also Hillarys way of finally getting the tax break off the oil companies! |

May 2nd, 2008 10:24 pm ET I’d like to know who doctored that “War Room” statement. Was it done by an Obama supporter or campaign worker? Maybe you’ll guys at CNN will get to work. It would be interesting to actually know that the media investigates the truth once and awhile and not just reports a ’story’. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:24 pm ET I will not be happy with such a small gas tax holiday. I want the gas prices back down to $3.00 , not a funky $30.00 savings over 3 months |
|
| xtina, chicago |
May 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET I can’t believe there’s people who dont want the tax cut! Why in the world WOULDN’T you want the fed. gov’t to give a little tax break? |

May 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET Hey Y’all !! I am here in North Carolina watching this wild spree of candidates as they come and go and as a representative of the Chapel Hill Graduates/NASCAR Babes, I will be voting for Hillary. |
|
| Misty |
May 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET I COMPLETELY agree, Megan. Americans aren’t really stupid enough to believe that they COULD accomplish that, are they? Besides, as I and many others know, it is nothing but political pandering on the part of Hillary and McCain. |
|
| Rose from Southern Calif |
May 2nd, 2008 10:25 pm ET The voters are not that uneducated to know the differents between good news and bad news about the candidates. Our brains are not that burn out. |
|
| Lisa - Ft. Lauderdale |
May 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET Anderson, I agree - at first, I thought this race would be historic because of the candidates being firsts - but now, with everything that’s happened in this primary - this would be one for the history books even if they were both a couple of the usual white guys running for Pres (no offense):) |
|
| Claire |
May 2nd, 2008 10:26 pm ET I think the tax break on gas isn’t a smart idea. The people behind it want the oil companies to pay the difference. How are they going to make the companies do that and also wouldn’t the oil companies just raise their price to cover the cost? I wouldn’t mind a break just like everyone else but at what cost to us in the future? |
|
| Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada |
May 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET This race is very facinating it is just sometimes hearing the same thing for months can eventually get to people. We can all tell the story by heart now because we have heard it so much….but we will keep watching, us political junkies can’t help it |

| Grayce |
May 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET Sick of this race? No, it is interesting…I’m sick of half-truths being used just to win. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:27 pm ET Exactly Kathy OH. Less money, but more popular? Obama tries hard by spending because he does not have a real message. Notice, that he always does really bad after a debate? No more debates for Barack? He’s scared, but he has plenty of money. |
|
| Tammy |
May 2nd, 2008 10:28 pm ET Onto the gas tax, I filled up yesterday and my itty bitty Honda cost me almost 40 bucks. When I bought her 10 years ago, she cost me less than 15 to fill. You all do the math. Thirty dollars is thirty dollars, but I do think it’s all politics. And ugh, I’ll have to check with the MS friends, too. This weather is freaky. I hated tornado weather when I was in North MS. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:29 pm ET i probably shouldnt complain about gas prices since i live in louisiana, our gas isnt as high as it is in other places but $30 isnt anything. its very ridiculous that we have to pay so much, that isnt even enough to fill my tank once and i have a fuel efficient car. |
|
| Christine |
May 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET I really don’t care if the fuel tax holiday is political pandering. Maybe David Gergen should get out and talk to trucking companies and see if they really care about pandering. This will save me a lot of money at the time I need to renew our insurance. Maybe every trucking company and owner-operators should shut down for 2 days. Do you have any idea the fuel surcharge the steamship lines are charging? Anywhere from 25% to 35%, and believe me it is not passed on to the trucker. So I’ll take any help I can. |

| Carmen, Marina, CA |
May 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET Amber…I am with you, wondering about how Obama would poll in super Tuesday states TODAY. The recent events re. Rev. Wright, “bitter” comments, Obama’s responses (which I think have been inadequate), have obviously taken their toll on him in Indiana and NC, at least according to the polls. Perhaps his decrease in popularity in the national polls of late gives the indication of how some of the Super Tuesday voters feels. Would be interesting to find out more precisely. |
|
| Joe Garmon |
May 2nd, 2008 10:30 pm ET Anderson, don’t you think airing the “war room video” could have a negative affect on Hillary in IN and NC in these last days even though cnn declared it untrue. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET @ xtina: the US government is in debt. Most of our debt is being financed by other countries. Some of us don’t want to see the US going broke for $30. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET xtina- You’ve got to recognize that the gas tax holiday won’t do anyone much good. It’s a “quick fix” that fixes nothing! It’s just like the lame economy stimulus plan. $600 is a joke! The federal government needs to come up with REAL solutions, and stop pandering these useless little stunts. |
|
| Renee Osterwalder/Expat Winterthur Switzerland |
May 2nd, 2008 10:31 pm ET The problem with the fuel tax break is that it could possibly put road workers OUT OF WORK! The gas tax goes pay their salaries! So we get a 18 to 30$ break and they lose their jobs! Doesnt sound fair to me! |

May 2nd, 2008 10:32 pm ET I’m a recent graduate from Indiana, and I have to say that this is the first time I have ever seen anyone here so excited about this primary. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:33 pm ET Today John McCain says he has an energy plan that will prevent the need to send our troops to fight a war in the middle east AGAIN over oil….seems he is admitting that we are fighting for oil now (not terrorism, WMD’s, or other excuse for the 100 year war) - this may be good news for us Dems if EITHER of our candidates survives the primary |

May 2nd, 2008 10:33 pm ET What counts in the general election? The electoral vote counts in the general election. Florida and Michigan count in the general election. Hillary is ahead in all categories relevant to the general election and is polling way ahead of Obama vs. McCain in the general election as CNN reported earlier this week. Therefore, Senator Clinton can make viable arguments pertaining to the general election, since the goal is to win the general election. Super delegates know this and will come to their senses after these ridiculous proportional primaries and caucuses. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:34 pm ET NO becuase the OIL COMPANIES will be paying the taxes instead of US!! |

May 2nd, 2008 10:35 pm ET Hi AC I think the gas tax is silly we will save a total of $30. for the summer Which is less than a dollar a day. When summer is over and we have to heat our homes what will happen then? My land lord turn off the heat in March because of the price of gas. Think people when all is said and done what would we have save, A total of NOTHING, NOTHING, |

May 2nd, 2008 10:36 pm ET Sick of this race? NO! It’s way too interesting and ever-changing to be dull. AND history, like never before, is being made. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:36 pm ET @Bob, I agree. Obama’s message of hope/change is fading. All talk and no substance. He looks like he on a field trip, bowling, basketball etc. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:36 pm ET Joe, i hear what you are saying about airing the “war room” video. we debated about it a lot today, but the fake version has been all over the internet, and i think its unfair to allow false information like that to just sit out there. We were very careful how we used the video, we did not want the fake audio to be heard, and it wasnt, we also wanted to put it in context with other “dirty tricks” that have been used recently. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:37 pm ET Hi, Bob and Tammy. Wanted to point out something the Indiapolis Star pointed out today. It endorsed Clinton, but pointed out that it considered her tax holiday pandering. Apparently IN had a similar gas tax “holiday” type of thing done many years ago that did not work. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:38 pm ET David gergen is very very knowledgable ..but it is so obvious he is smitten with obama– which is fine but at least acknowledge that. He made a comment about her gas tax reduction as a gimmick and commented about her view on fossil fuel. That was a rather dumb comment on his part! |

May 2nd, 2008 10:38 pm ET Ashley, thanks for pointing that out…The Obama camp and supporters are failing to put that in their SMEAR AD against HIllary; she said it so many times…this tax will be paid for by the OIL Companies…Did anyone see the profits they made THIS WEEK? and yet the gas price keeps rising? I cannot afford it..ANYTHING will do RIGHT NOW…not 5 or 8yrs from now…RIGHT NOW |

May 2nd, 2008 10:39 pm ET Why do you find it necessary to do a story on Rev Wright tonight? Is it a reminder to voters once the story has bugun to die down? Very unfair!!! |
|
| xtina, chicago |
May 2nd, 2008 10:40 pm ET oh that’s right, Hillary is more for taxing us to death , so doing the opposite would be considered pandering to conservatives |
|

May 2nd, 2008 10:40 pm ET @Joe, Anderson is very right and another thing you may consider- It could actually work to her favor if there is some sympathy for the apparant set up |

May 2nd, 2008 10:40 pm ET I think cnn did do a great job with distinguishing between the fake video and reality, I guess it is just unfortunate that some people will still see the video and think it is true, but I do think it was the right thing to do to go ahead and air it. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:41 pm ET Those Arkansas storms moved into North Mississippi earlier this evening with two tornadoes following roughly the same path. News of the damage is trickling in. Thankfully no reports of fatalities yet but one local hospital is packed with people. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:42 pm ET I’m definitely not sick of this race, I enjoy watching and learning. And I’m thankful that my first time voting will be in such a passionate race. Besides, the longer it goes the more educated voters become. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:44 pm ET Being a young voter I am very excited about this race. For the first time I feel excited about politics and what is happening within our country. I feel less apathetic and look forward to watching the race unfold. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:45 pm ET Hi all The race has continued for a long time, but one positive spin off of these campaigns is that it is like an intensive training in the democratic process. I think the thoroughness of the media coverage(mostly CNN In the rest of the world) is influencing to some extent the way that people are looking at democracy in their own environment. Maybe it will give a boost to democracy worldwide. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:45 pm ET I am amazed that these candidates can do this day after day, and all day. The crowds must energize them. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:47 pm ET The thing that is great about Obama and Clinton is that they both fought hard to make something of themselves. They basically worked their way into Ivy league law schools. That is impressive and not an easy thing. I’d be happy to have either as president because they know what it takes to work hard for something. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:48 pm ET Many black children do learn differently from white children. Wright wasn’t saying that race was the exclusive factor. Anyhow, numerous psychological & sociological studies back this up. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:48 pm ET @jolene and megan: the oil companies always find a way around things. oh goodness, i am not a fan of tom cruise, do we really have to revisit the couch jumping thing? lol where is erica? |

May 2nd, 2008 10:50 pm ET I’m glad you all are covering these “facts” about learning. I think you were going to do it earlier in the week but other stories took precedence. People deserve the truth whether or not people see it as bringing the Wright issue up in a bad way. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:50 pm ET Rev. Wright’s ridiculous learning theory doesn’t need to be highlighted. I’m disappointed in CNN for deciding to do a story about it. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:51 pm ET How is this a story, since when is Wright a developmental psychologist. Why does his opinion need to be “Kept Honest”. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:51 pm ET How many of you at the age of 27-28 didn’t have a your own ideas of the world and society and believes? That was the age Sen. Obama was when he first started going to Rev. Wright’s church. So you really believe that he believes the rubish that Rev. Wright spews. Read his book or reseach it for yourself. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:51 pm ET i know that there are left brain and right brain people, but I’ve never heard that race is a factor in that. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:52 pm ET I don’t think race has anything to do with how you learn! |
|
| Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada |
May 2nd, 2008 10:52 pm ET I don’t think it matters what race you are in determining how one learns…..I am a white woman who is right-brained (according to my facebook quiz anyways :P). It is just how I learn but I don’t think it has anything to do with my race |
|
| Sue P/PA |
May 2nd, 2008 10:53 pm ET Tracy……………Rev Wright was relying on old research..but I will tell you this as a teacher….. There is such a thing as an auditory modality…….it has to do with your hearing… how your brain precieves what you hear..not that you cant hear……… African Americans auditory modalities are more in tune to a certian beat (s) but then again some white people possess the same beat …. Rev Wrights analogy was correct when he spoke about beats…ie the different marching bands… |

May 2nd, 2008 10:54 pm ET What black children is she talking about? Not all black students are like that! It is about the individual child. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:54 pm ET Is this really the right time to discuss Rev. Wright’s learning theories AC, any mention of this man is bad for Obama in my view. |
|

May 2nd, 2008 10:54 pm ET I do not think learning among color is a product of the brain, perhaps it is a product of experience. What would Jeremiah Wright say about mixed amerians, asians, or latinos. I think it is EXTREMELY ignorant to pit someones abilities in one group based on color, AND THEN to say America is set up to only cater to whites. |
|
| Alan M |
May 2nd, 2008 10:54 pm ET no no no no! Race does not have anything to do with the way a child learns. That is just crazy…black and whites, green and purple people…we all learn things the same way! |
|
| Amber |
May 2nd, 2008 10:54 pm ET Culture base or economic base really? It’s a vicious cycle without education they can’t get ahead but without some economic reforms they can’t get education. In poorer homes, what’s the priority books or food? |
|
| Lorie Ann, Buellton, California |
May 2nd, 2008 10:55 pm ET I think right brain, left brain people learn differently. All races have right, left sided people. So race alone seems suspect. |
|
| Tiffany |
May 2nd, 2008 10:55 pm ET Smaller class size also makes a huge difference. There is more interaction with the teacher, and students are able to get more help. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:56 pm ET Ok, so where did Rev. Wright get this right brain garbage from anyways? Thanks for giving us the facts. It was very interesting. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:56 pm ET There are many cultural differences that do affect children’s styles of learning. I don’t think this is anything new or controversial. That is also why standardized tests have been scrutinized in the past - as they are created from an understanding of white culture. These differences do matter and that’s why some changes have been made since then.. |

May 2nd, 2008 10:57 pm ET The school sounds like it subscribes to feminist pedagogy which says kids learn best when they feel validated and their words are heard. It’s more collaborative in nature. I spent a semester in my doctoral program playing with this in an independent study. I’ll buy that, but not that African American kids learn differently because of brain structure. |
