Tonight, a high powered superdelegate is switching sides. Former Democratic National Committee Chairman, Joe Andrew, is withdrawing his endorsement of Hillary Clinton, and backing Barack Obama instead. He says he’s doing it because it’s “…best for America. We simply cannot wait any longer, nor can we let this race fall any lower and still hope to win in November. June or July may be too late. The time to act is now.” We’ll have reaction and analysis.

Gary Tuchman is on the campaign trail with Bill Clinton. He spent the past two days following the former president and gives us an up close look at his impact on Sen. Clinton’s campaign.

And a smiley face on a wall. Is it just graffiti or is it the calling card of a serial killer? Erica Hill has the evidence tonight in crime and punishment.

We want to hear what you think. So bring on the comments. We’ll start posting them at 10p ET and stop at 11p ET.

And don’t forget to check out the live web camera from the 360° studio. The shot features Anderson and Erica behind the scenes on the set. We’ll turn the camera on at 945p ET and turn it off at 11p ET. LINK TO THE BLOG CAMERA

Good Evening everyone. Glad to be back tonite. I was sick yesterday, but am feeling much better. hope you like the program tonite..

Tracey - Boston   May 1st, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Good Evening Anderson,

Glad you are feeling better. I can’t wait to hear about Joe Andrew changing his endorsement and the response.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   May 1st, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Good evening Anderson, Erica and bloggees.

Happy Thursday and welcome back to the studio Anderson

Kathy   May 1st, 2008 10:00 pm ET

welcome back Anderson

AJ, Minneapolis   May 1st, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Welcome back Anderson, I dont watch the show when your not anchoring…Hello Erica and Bloggers….

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   May 1st, 2008 10:00 pm ET

I think all of us feel a little ill with the way this election has turned so sour. Hopefully we all won’t implode before November.

Megan Dresslar   May 1st, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Hello Anderson, Erica, and Bloggers! :)
I was so surprised Joe Andrew is withdrawing his endorsement of Hillary Clinton to switch to Barack Obama, that is not good news for Hillary Clinton…………..

Bob L from Philadelphia, PA   May 1st, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Good evening all. Great conversations that last time I was on, I think on Tuesday. Always a great conversation.

Taran   May 1st, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Hey Anderson, I hope that you are feeling better today!!! It is great to be watching 360 on my birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man, time flies by really, really fast!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can not believe on how quick people are seeming to drop their endorsements and back another candaidate. Also, how the Wright issue just seems to be more important to the media that the state of the economy. Hopefully the real issues will be talked about soon. This election is really very exciting looking forward to the crime and punishment segement. Take care!!!!!

Cindy   May 1st, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I am not surprised that Hillary is catching up to Obama after all of the flack he is getting about the Wright fiasco.

Scott from Denver   May 1st, 2008 10:03 pm ET

How many did Hillary pick up today?

Cindy   May 1st, 2008 10:03 pm ET

I don’t think losing the gas tax will help anything at all.

Chuck in Alabama   May 1st, 2008 10:04 pm ET

I’m starting to think that some of these Superdelegates are just looking for White House jobs.

Lisa - Ft. Lauderdale   May 1st, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Joe Andrews posted a letter explaining his change from Clinton to Obama - the reason he cited - NOT that Obama would be a better President - NOT EVEN that Obama would be a better general election candidate - he said that, for the good of the party, superdelegates should jump to Obama and end the primary - to me this is not a compelling reason to support someone for President of the United States - too much is at stake - go Hillary!

Sarah, Atlanta GA   May 1st, 2008 10:05 pm ET

I agree with Cindy, about the gas tax.

Shannon from Washington   May 1st, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Hi, I hope you are feeling better! It is such great news that Joe Andrew decided to do the right thing and vote for the Obama! I appreciated that he mentioned the fact that his not pandering on the gas tax that is so typical of “old” politics was one of the tipping points. It is nice to see someone stick up to the old attack machine.

sara. .minneapolis   May 1st, 2008 10:05 pm ET

The gas tax is what, 18 cents a gallon? So we all would save like $2 each fill-up. WHOA, THAT JUST FIXES EVERYTHING. /sarcasm

Kathy, Chicago   May 1st, 2008 10:05 pm ET

I think with all of this Rev. Wright mess, the Obama campaign is begging delegates to come to his side. he is probably promising them the moon.

Christine   May 1st, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Obama is a fool for not going for a tax relief for fuel. I need to fill up 7 tractor trailers at least twice a week. Give a break now while they work on a solution.

I do not trust people who change their minds after backing a candidate. I still can not find it in my heart or mind to back that man.

Michelle   May 1st, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I think the sups are tired of HRC’s antics.
Something is playing out behind the scenes
that is not public knowledge .

Minou, New York City   May 1st, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Tom Foreman! Long time, no see! He’s great! Nobody can explain something the way he can.

Cindy   May 1st, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I think some of the superdelegates who were originally going to vote for Obama but hadn’t said it publicly will vote now for Hillary after the Wright thing and her catching him in the national polls so her losing one won’t matter.

Mike from Syracuse NY   May 1st, 2008 10:06 pm ET

These superdelegates are all calculating how they can best benefit by who they endorse and when without incuring the risk of being wrong. Joe Andrew apparently decided that with his state voting, his political capital gets maximized now.

Chuck in Alabama   May 1st, 2008 10:06 pm ET

The DNC is slitting it’s own throat. They wrote the rules and now they are upset because the primary schedule they wrote is actually going down to the wire. If they didn’t want primary contest after 1 April, they should change their rules.

Claire   May 1st, 2008 10:06 pm ET

What happens if Clinton and Obama are even or almost even in delegates after all is said and done? That’s the real question.

patt   May 1st, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I cannot imagine the pandimonium that would take place if the Super-delegates rule against the vote of the people.

Michael, NC   May 1st, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I think the gas tax cut is more of a PR thing than a money saver.

Jo Ann, Ohio   May 1st, 2008 10:07 pm ET

@Chuck: That is exactly what they are doing. I can’t understand why they waited so long because neither Obama nor Clinton have changed their positions on any of the issues. I guess they were just waiting to see who was likely to win the nomination before they gave their endorsements.

Renee   May 1st, 2008 10:07 pm ET

@ Cindy and Sarah: I did the math. 60 gallons of gas a month times 18.5 cents savings is $11.10 per month times 3 months or $33.10.

Cindy   May 1st, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Can’t wait to see the crime and punishment segment. That seems very interesting.

Shannon from Washington   May 1st, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Kathy, I actually heard an interview with Joe Andrews today and he mentioned that he told neither campaign this was his intention before announcing. It was a shock. He said that he did it purely based on principle and his own conscious. It really is nice to see a politician make a hard political decision based on their fundamental principles.

Angel Manners   May 1st, 2008 10:08 pm ET

If they are even, then it will go to the super-duper delegates

Megan Dresslar   May 1st, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Minou,
I agree with you!!!! I love Tom Foreman “This week”

anderson cooper   May 1st, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Happy Birthday Taran!

Mike from Syracuse NY   May 1st, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Chuck, the DNC is changing the rules. Next time it’s winner take all on M, W, F, proportional on T, Th, Sat. and alternates on Sunday. States with more than 2 vowels in their name get disenfranchised.

Chris   May 1st, 2008 10:09 pm ET

There is lots of talk about the Super Delegates not wanting to take the nomination away from the candidate who has won the people’s vote. I’m curious as to how many of the Super Delegates that have declared are supporting the candidate that their state/district suported? Where would their votes fall out if they all voted based on how thier respective states voted?

Elke, SW Florida   May 1st, 2008 10:10 pm ET

I can see why people like Obama. I just finished reading his last book and if he still stands for all the values and beliefs he describes there, he can really bring much needed change to this country.
It is going to be a tough choice between the two democratic candidates.

Brian Persaud   May 1st, 2008 10:10 pm ET

I don’t understand why they want to end the primary, can anyone explain? I can think of a myriad of reasons to continue the primary to the end, but how does the party profit from ending it sooner?

Chuck in Alabama   May 1st, 2008 10:10 pm ET

Cindy, Senator Clinton is proposing the the gas tax be lifted from us and that the oil companies pay the taxes for us out of their profits. With her plan there will be no lose of “tax” revenues to the public works that they support. Obama keeps calling it the “Clinton/McCain’ plan, but, their plans are vastly different.

Jo Ann, Ohio   May 1st, 2008 10:10 pm ET

@Chuck in Alabama: If the Democrats selected their nominee the same way that the Republicans do or if the media had told the voters about Wright earlier this would be all over.

Shane, Kentucky   May 1st, 2008 10:10 pm ET

‘Andrew said he has grown increasingly impressed with Obama’s “thoughtful,” “calm,” and “temperate” responses to everything from the gas tax holiday that both Clinton and McCain are advocating to the flaps over Michigan and Florida…….’

Obama FTW!!!!!

Bob L from Philadelphia, PA   May 1st, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Lisa, you are absolutely right. He is an elitist, too. Out of touch with the world around him. We, the Democrats, will be just fine in the fall if Hillary is the nominee.

Michael, NC   May 1st, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Funny how Bill’s approval rating is higher than his wife’s. :-)

Mike from Syracuse NY   May 1st, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Probably more haven’t jumped ship yet because they want to make sure Hillary doesn’t get the coronation, oops nomination.

Jolene   May 1st, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Why is BIll shunning the media? Are they afraid he might say something he shouldn’t?

Shannon from Washington   May 1st, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Cindy, I respectfully disagree with your belief. In fact I think Obama handled it extremely well and I have heard many super delegates have in fact felt a great comfort in the way this has been put to rest. The Media is making much more of this than they are in their reasoning. This is why Obama is consistently picking up more than Clinton. They realize Wright is a dead issue that has been truly beaten to death. Time to move on to the General and take back the White House.

Carmen, Marina, CA   May 1st, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Give me a break! Joe Andrews switching his endorsement to Obama at this point is laughable. Nothing like pandering. What the heck is he REALLY thinking?

Maureen T   May 1st, 2008 10:12 pm ET

It appears as if some folks are jumping ship with respect to Barack Obama. That’s really too bad! It will be a wait and see game, that’s for sure!

Scott from Denver   May 1st, 2008 10:12 pm ET

I was never for Bill but he seems to speak the truth about the results and what we should consider…

Chuck in Alabama   May 1st, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Oh. I agree JoAnn. I’m just arguing that they did a bad job of planning the schedule. The DNC never thought it would end up with two viable candidates.

Jason-Riverview, FL   May 1st, 2008 10:12 pm ET

SEN Obama’s Plan to the gas is the same as President’s Bush… “NOTHING”,,,atleast SEn Clinton is proposing something…I need relief..Not 5yrs from now..but NOW…sweeping Rev Wright under the rug and he is talking about Gas tax….another Hoodwink

Cindy   May 1st, 2008 10:12 pm ET

@ Chuck in Alabama…but it won’t save us much money in the long run. And everyone knows that the gas companies will add the cost back in somewhere.

Lisa - Ft. Lauderdale   May 1st, 2008 10:12 pm ET

All the DNC “leaders” that are turning their backs on the Clintons are forgetting - the only Democrat to win the White House for two terms in the last 80 years was ….. Bill Clinton. I’m afraid some members of my party are addicted to losing….

MaryJane in Maryland   May 1st, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me what happened to the elected delegates that John Edwards won? I think it was somewhere in the vicinity of 200. Can they now go to either Clinton or Obama?

Janna   May 1st, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Brian, the longer the race is, the greater the chance of the candidates being torn down thus making it easier for the GOP to do it in the general election.

Megan Dresslar   May 1st, 2008 10:13 pm ET

I agree with you more Michael in NC

Ann   May 1st, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Bottom line, Obama still has a more favorable rating according to the polls, more delegates and more votes. Despite the fact that his lead may be smaller, he is still leading. Hopefully the coverage of Rev. Wright will finally cease and we can get on with what is important. Please!

Jim   May 1st, 2008 10:13 pm ET

If Hillary doesn’t win do you think she will run as an independent?

Maureen T   May 1st, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Come on folks Bill Clinton knows what he is doing!

Michael, NC   May 1st, 2008 10:15 pm ET

John King and David Gergen tonight, now that’s good stuff. The two of them are great, they speak the truth with no garbage.

Lisa - Ft. Lauderdale   May 1st, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Edwards only has about 26 delegates - they are free to support whoever they want at the convention

Andre   May 1st, 2008 10:15 pm ET

It would make sense to me if the two would just run together. If the sole purpose of each of thier campaign is to unite the American people and move down a greater path, I have no doubt that the two of them could accomplish this. Both are young so multiple terms would not be far fetched. This whole media fiasco that both of them are going through is beginning to get very ridicolous and annoying many voters.

Jason-Riverview, FL   May 1st, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Lisa you are EXACTLY right…you know…i say the CLINTONS should NOT campaign for the Obama;s when he gets the nomination…”The Obama supports call them names and devisive, why would they need their help? Let them loose the election on their own…Obama will not get my vote

EJ   May 1st, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Jim,

“If Hillary doesn’t win do you think she will run as an independent?”

That would be the political end of Hillary Clinton. That would guarantee a McCain win.

Jolene   May 1st, 2008 10:16 pm ET

The DC Madam killing herself was a surprise to me. I guess people will do anything to get out of going to prison. Feel sorry for the mom, she found her. That had to be terrible.

Jason-Riverview, FL   May 1st, 2008 10:17 pm ET

If she runs as an Independent, I will Support her ALL the way…She has MY vote

Renee   May 1st, 2008 10:17 pm ET

@ JoAnn: Thanks for the Mrs. Obama thesis information. I read the entire thesis last night. I made up my own mind on Mrs. O. Then I read my senior thesis today and realized how much I have changed (for the better!)

Chuck in Alabama   May 1st, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Bill is shunning the media because, everytime he opens his mouth, they make sure it’s spun so that it offends someone and embarrases his wife. He’s not doing stump speeches for the media, he’s trying to speak to the people.

Brian Persaud   May 1st, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Janna> Ah I see. I didn’t know if it was funding or what. If thats the case, I think the GOP has more than enough ammo already, may as well fight it out till the end.

Erica Hill
CNN
  May 1st, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Hi, everyone…finally with you.

my browser was v e r y sloooow tonight as i was trying to log on

Maureen T   May 1st, 2008 10:21 pm ET

David Gergen is always right on the money! He knows of what he speaks! And he’s in Toronto? Almost in my neighbourhood! :)

Cheryl M.   May 1st, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Candy keeps talking about perception. Perception IS reality.

angie   May 1st, 2008 10:21 pm ET

hi erica glad to see you made it

Jo Ann, Ohio   May 1st, 2008 10:21 pm ET

@Renee: You are welcome. Based on what Michelle Obama has said since the campaign began, unlike you, she has not changed her views.

Brian Persaud   May 1st, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Jason-Riverview, FL> Losing is having McCain in office don’t you think? Obama may be very flawed in the eyes of a Hillary supporter like myself, but at the end of the day Obama is most certainly the lesser of two evils if he gets the nom.

Teresa, Kent, OH   May 1st, 2008 10:21 pm ET

hello, Erica : ) It’s the ” slow browser rotation system”… must have been your turn.

Ann from Indiana   May 1st, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Are the Clinton’s willing to put the Democrat Party back together after they rip it apart?

Duane Oden   May 1st, 2008 10:21 pm ET

If many of the Obama voters of the earlier primaries knew then what they now know about Obama, they would have voted differently. This is why Hillary is now winning primaries and seeing higher polls. Obama may squeak out the democratic nominee, but a win in the general election is impossible.

Carmen, Marina, CA   May 1st, 2008 10:21 pm ET

What this junk about Hillary bringing the party down by staying in the race? The primary is still in play, by the alleded rules of the DNC. So, let iy play out, for goodness sake. What are these people thinking?

Barb   May 1st, 2008 10:22 pm ET

I think this is one of the rare times I disagree with David Gergen.

I don’t believe all of these Obama supporters who are new voters, Independents and cross-over Republican voters are going to vote “down ticket”.

Hillary Clinton has the support of more longtime Democratic voters who will more likely vote down ticket.

Mike from Syracuse NY   May 1st, 2008 10:22 pm ET

Sounds like the superdelegates are panicking.

Theresa W.   May 1st, 2008 10:22 pm ET

I agree with the poll Anderson, I am a democrate and I am getting so sick of this election. It is very draining. Can we just vote now and get it out the way!!!!!

Chuck in Alabama   May 1st, 2008 10:22 pm ET

No matter which wins the nomination. I believe the choice of running mate is going to have a major impact for both parties.

emmy   May 1st, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Candy Crowley is right..she is also a great journalist…really enjoy your reporting Candy

Yvonne   May 1st, 2008 10:24 pm ET

The superdelegates know that the Clinton machine is broken. Obama’s machine is brand new and ready to roll.

Kathy, Chicago   May 1st, 2008 10:24 pm ET

oh John King-from your lips to God’s ears!

Michael, NC   May 1st, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Candy is right, the democrats need to stop flinging poo and bridge the gap and smooth the edges to keep a positive outlook for future electability.

Kate   May 1st, 2008 10:24 pm ET

I hope you all at AC360 know how much we love Candy and David! They always add a passive, clear opinion that is right on target.

Shannon from Washington   May 1st, 2008 10:24 pm ET

I absolutely respect David Gergen, he is very wise. Obama is definitely the logical and best choice for down the ticket.

Cindy   May 1st, 2008 10:24 pm ET

I think ti will go to the convention no matter what happens.

denise, nc   May 1st, 2008 10:25 pm ET

A lot of people that i have talked to have said that they are tired of this long election and they were going to vote for hilliary, but now they are vote for macain.

Chris   May 1st, 2008 10:25 pm ET

@Barb I agree. That was certainly the case in the primary elections in my state. The presidential race had lots more votes than the down ballot race. people were voting in just the one race.

EJ   May 1st, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Anderson - you wouldn’t believe how many women drink while they are pregnant. Maybe their addiction is that strong or they simply don’t care.

Thom Parrish - Rocky Mount   May 1st, 2008 10:26 pm ET

I agree Michael, I agree

Jennifer - Michigan   May 1st, 2008 10:26 pm ET

That’s terrible! A drunk pregnant woman, what was she thinking? or not thinking that is.

Jen in Mex.   May 1st, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Whoa! What’s the priority here? CNN intl just cut into AC 360, for the Hong Kong Torch lighting. I don’t think so! Give me Anderson and Erica!

Jacqui Chan   May 1st, 2008 10:27 pm ET

the pregnant drunk woman is absolutely disgusting but pregnant women drinking or using drugs happens all to often, unfortunately

Kathy   May 1st, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Cindy, I agree with you. I think that Hillary will take it to the convention. It will be up to the Super delegates.

Jo Ann, Ohio   May 1st, 2008 10:27 pm ET

I wonder if the DC Madam’s “little Black Book” is on its way to the NY Times?

Michael, NC   May 1st, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Denise-
I have heard the same from past Obama supporters…wonder why the strong change of winds.

Brian Persaud   May 1st, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Ann from Indiana> Have you missed the polls? She has supporters, she has every right to keep fighting. If Obama can’t take it, he won’t be able to take McCain. Obama has attacked just as much, he is far from above “old politics”.

Maureen T   May 1st, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Eight months pregnant and still drinking? What was she thinking??

Jacqui Chan   May 1st, 2008 10:28 pm ET

1 year, THATS IT?!?
that is an injustice!

Bonnie   May 1st, 2008 10:28 pm ET

How do you claim you are innocent if you are drunk and 8 months pregnant???

Gwen from NJ   May 1st, 2008 10:29 pm ET

At the end of the day, I think the Democrats will unite. The stakes are too high and the risks too great for the parties not to do that. Whether it is Senator Obama or Senator Clinton. Chosing the running mate is going to be tricky. They will get pressure to put the other on their ticket, I think.

Jolene   May 1st, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I don’t think it will go to the convention. The superdelegates will be forced to decide and pick a candidate in June. June should prove to be an exciting month if that is the case.

Monett Zenab El-Ayoubi   May 1st, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I live in West Virginia and i was lucky enought to see the Former Pres. Clinton speak to a decent sized crown at West Virginia Univ. he did take the crowds questions. I dont see why they are trying to make it sound like the Clintons are trying to hide.

Mike from Syracuse NY   May 1st, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Conspiracy theory of the night: Did the DC Madam have ‘help’ from an as yet unknown client?

Howard   May 1st, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Why are we all judging a woman we know nothing about?

Chuck in Alabama   May 1st, 2008 10:30 pm ET

She ought to be charged with attempted murder.

Janna   May 1st, 2008 10:30 pm ET

OK, in all fairness, experts HAVE said that one drink while pregnant is fine. When your resistance is low, perhaps one drink is enough to impair.

mona   May 1st, 2008 10:31 pm ET

NY post is reporting some members of the congress are leasing cars that are expensive as $900.00 a month on tax payers back, now that is holy blank that John King was talking about.

Angel Manners   May 1st, 2008 10:31 pm ET

@mike in syracuse, that was almost the exact comment I was going to make

Lisa - Ft. Lauderdale   May 1st, 2008 10:32 pm ET

More than 15 million people have voted for Obama - more than 15 million people have voted for Clinton - why is it that Clinton is the one that is tearing the party apart and must drop out of the race?

Megan Dresslar   May 1st, 2008 10:32 pm ET

I agree with you guys! I don’t like drunk or drugs during pregnant…. that is so bad thing to babies!!!!

Thom Parrish - NC   May 1st, 2008 10:32 pm ET

McCain will eat Clinton alive if she wins the nomination

Jennifer - Michigan   May 1st, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Mike from Syracuse NY - I wouldn’t doubt it. I’m sure she getting pressure from all sides.

Michael, NC   May 1st, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Mona-thats CRAZY!!! Thanks for the eye-opener.

Valerie - NC   May 1st, 2008 10:33 pm ET

I agree, Clinton won’t defeat McCain ..

Jana, Indiana   May 1st, 2008 10:33 pm ET

@Jo Ann in Ohio. that is a good question about the DC’s madam’s :little black book” on its way to the NY Times.

Monett Zenab El-Ayoubi   May 1st, 2008 10:33 pm ET

It was actually a great speech. But mostly about Energy Crisis.

Brian Persaud   May 1st, 2008 10:34 pm ET

I don’t understand how McCain has any supporters, it seems so counterintuitive to any public opinion polls. Boggles my mind.

Valerie Kaufmann   May 1st, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Listening with interest to the commentary about Clinton and Obama. I’m a registered republican who is watching with great interest what these dems will do. I and other republicans I know will jump for joy to vote for Obama if they get it right and nominate him.
On the other hand if Clinton gets the nomination it will be the first time since I started voting at the age of 18 (I’m 53 now) that I’ll seriously consider not voting.
John McCain- no thanks! Not the choice for Americas future!

Fay, CA   May 1st, 2008 10:34 pm ET

It will be a huge disappointment if the Democrats who had a good chance of getting the White House this election allow the chaos and bickering to turn off voters and cause them to turn to McCain. Four more years of Republican rule would be disastrous.

Jolene   May 1st, 2008 10:34 pm ET

I received an email today from the GOP announcing a McCain fundraiser. Romney is going to host it. Approx. $2,300 for a ticket to attend. McCain / Romney would be an interesting combination ticket. It’s amazing that they are talking to each other now.

Michael, NC   May 1st, 2008 10:34 pm ET

That piece from John King was great, thats some of the McCain dissection that I have been waiting for on your show. Thanks John.

terry fisher   May 1st, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Since Obama started campaigning, I’ve lost interest in him. I would still support him as VP on Clinton’s ticket because after eight years as VP, I believe he will be ready to be president. I hate the way he is continually insulting to Senator Clinton. He has never shown her the same level of respect she has shown him. Senator Clinton needs to stay in the race.

Kate   May 1st, 2008 10:36 pm ET

It’s interesting how much the democrats are dominating the media, enthusiasm, and campaign contributions.
Even with the democrats slaughtering each other, does McCain actually have a chance? I’m thinking no…

Ginger Reeves   May 1st, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Ann, this is not a popularity contest. This is about electing someone with experience to lead this nation in the most perilous times we have ever known. If you don’t understand this, it would be useless to name the perils.

Shane, Kentucky   May 1st, 2008 10:37 pm ET

I think Clinton or Obama will hold their own just fine in the general election. Surely people have enough sense to realize that we cannot stand 4 more years of Republican politics.

Jeff   May 1st, 2008 10:38 pm ET

It’s amazing that anyone is still supporting Obama after his obvious dishonesty about the Rev. Wright issue. It’s not even about what Wright said at this point; it’s about Obama acting as though he wasn’t aware of Wright’s views (for 20 years), and how, in the span of a few weeks, went from saying he couldn’t disassociate himself from Wright anymore than he could disassociate himself from the “black community.” Well, now he has disassociated himself from Wright. Is the “black community” next? Why are people standing by this opportunist liar?

Anne   May 1st, 2008 10:38 pm ET

The coin toss has been for decades the way to settle elections that are in a tie. Why not here since neither candidate can reach the magic number of 2005? Both candidates could encourage their supporters to acceot the results ahead of time and there is no reason for anyone to claim foul. This is a way to unite the party.

Chuck in Alabama   May 1st, 2008 10:38 pm ET

McCain has to bear the Irag War albatross. Independents who usually lean right will lean left over that issue.

Brian Persaud   May 1st, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Kate> Agreed. In my mind the election may as well end after the democratic nomination is decided. No chance, unless Americans all have a communal stroke at the voting booth and mark the wrong box.

Joe -Michigan   May 1st, 2008 10:42 pm ET

If anyone says inexperience in the White House does not matter, does anyone remember the Carter Years.

President Carter is a wonderful man, but was not ready for the White House. I think Obama is in the same place.

Monett Zenab El-Ayoubi   May 1st, 2008 10:42 pm ET

This “bridge to nowhere” thing reminds me of the carpetbaggers during the civil war who bled southern states dry getting govt. contracts to build “imaginary railroads.”

Sue, Austin TX   May 1st, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I disagree. McCain will not eat her alive in the fall. There are too many fed up and have no desire to continue with more of the same.for another 4 years. Also McCain admits freely that he is challanged economically. Therefore, with all the damage on the economic front at home he has several strikes against him even before the fall. Hillary can with this.

Michael, NC   May 1st, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Its pretty funny to hear both sides-one saying McCain will tear the dem nominee apart, the other saying he has no chance. I can’t speak for all, but where I’m from, there are LOTS of McCain supporters…maybe because it’s a small town with lots of conservatives…who knows.

Janna   May 1st, 2008 10:43 pm ET

This story is unbelievable. Thank God it didn’t slip by….makes me wonder how many DID get by unnoticed!

Bonnie   May 1st, 2008 10:43 pm ET

You have to be kidding–so are they required to do the inter-change?

Angel Manners   May 1st, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Barbara Walters and the word “affair” should not be mentioned in the same sentence

Shannon from Washington   May 1st, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Hillary requested 2.9 billion for earmarks? Are you kidding me? Is she going to use this to fund the gas tax holiday :-)

sara. .minneapolis   May 1st, 2008 10:44 pm ET

One of those drowning victims was a couple weeks ago here in Minneapolis, but in yesterday’s paper, the cops responded to a local news report on the “smiley face” thing saying that wasn’t the case. I wonder if they’re just trying to keep everyone calm.

Darla   May 1st, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Do we really need to know about Barbara Walters’ sex life? That is like thinking about our parents having sex. That gross and therapy is too expensive.

Jennifer - Michigan   May 1st, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Angel Manners - I was thinking the same thing. Why would Barbara Walters have an affair with a married guy? That’s so weird.

Elke, SW Florida   May 1st, 2008 10:45 pm ET

And we really don’t need that Interchange at the end of Coconut Road. I happen to live exactly at the end of that road and we have I-75 interchanges into each direction from here about 4 miles apart. I just don’t know what they were thinking by investing $10 million for a useless other interchange that would just have destroyed the serene and beautiful scenery along side Coconut Road.

Lisa - Ft. Lauderdale   May 1st, 2008 10:46 pm ET

This road to nowhere thing is actually very common - lawmakers tack on provisions to bills all the time - they don’t even have to identify who authored the provisions - and the fact is, most lawmakers do not read the bills before they vote - they get a summary from their aides and then they vote

Janna   May 1st, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Angel- my thoughts exactly. LOL . I shuddered…

xtina, chicago   May 1st, 2008 10:46 pm ET

why do these people come out and tell us details about affairs from like thirty yrs. ago. ? what good does it do to tell us this?

Brian Persaud   May 1st, 2008 10:47 pm ET

I guess I’m the only one interested in Barbara Walter’s sex life. D: Oh well.

anderson cooper   May 1st, 2008 10:47 pm ET

it’s an interesting discussion tonite. It’s also interesting to read the differing opinions about what will happen in the general election. It always seems to me impossible to predict what will happen at this stage. There are so many variables, so many unknowns. Its why those general election polls always seem so worthless to me. I think back to the polls about kerry and bush at this time of the year in the last election.

Jolene   May 1st, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Earmark spending simply amazes me. At work, we are scrutinized with our spending and need to stay within 1% of our spending plan each month. Our government, on the other hand, appears to have an open book.

Monett Zenab El-Ayoubi   May 1st, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Since when do serial killerswork in concert? Expecially over 11 states. Sounds a bit far fetched.

Andrea from Canada   May 1st, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Angel Manners, that is fantastic! hahaha

She was pretty hot in the 70s though, she turned down Clint Eastwood back in the day…

(or at least I think it was Clint Eastwood, my memory is pretty horrid really)

Michael, NC   May 1st, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Anderson- too true. I know people who switch their minds more than their underwear, so I know the opinion of the general public is going to sway on a daily basis.

Vilmarie   May 1st, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Darla and Jennifer,

I agree with you both. My thoughts are maybe he wasn’t married at the time or she was led to believe that he wasn’t married or the relationship was in limbo or the guy was separated? People always try to tarnish the reputations of successful people.

V.

Maureen T   May 1st, 2008 10:49 pm ET

I guess the fact that Barbara Walters wrote about this affair in her book now makes this man’s identity news…I have a lot of respect for Barbara, no matter what! She is human though.

Chuck in Alabama   May 1st, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Right on the nose, Anderson. I dont’ follow polls either. I’m thinking the outcome of this election just might suprise us all.

Michelle   May 1st, 2008 10:51 pm ET

The smiley face is creepy. Unless it has
been reported in media that the happy face
is left at the scene.

Megan Dresslar   May 1st, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Anderson, I agree with you too…….. I agree with Michael in NC…….

Krista, VA   May 1st, 2008 10:51 pm ET

That is all this country needs a “network of serial killers,” now people are going to be afraid to leave their house. I am going to stick with what the FBI is saying.

Jacqui Chan   May 1st, 2008 10:51 pm ET

at least nowadays serial killers can be tracked from state to state.
before computer technology these murders from state to state were rarely linked together

Jen in Mex.   May 1st, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Strange that he killers could, or would work in concert?
The geography is the least problematic.
Look how we are communicating. It’s a nightmare of a story no matter what.

Jolene   May 1st, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Let’s face it, who is to say that with the popularity of the internet, serial killers could possibly network via the web. That wouldn’t necessarily surprise me. The whole “smiley” thing is weird though.

Carmen, Marina, CA   May 1st, 2008 10:52 pm ET

I am with you, Brian…bring it on! Let’s hear the details of Barbara Walter’s sex life. Why not? She’s an interesting figure, glass ceiling breaking in journalism, etc. Would be interesting to have some personal details from her life thus far.

Basra   May 1st, 2008 10:52 pm ET

wow barbara walters? barbara girl we got to talk…lol
i so can not get over that.

but seriously the smiley face serial killers

Cindy   May 1st, 2008 10:53 pm ET

That was a great crime and punishment. Seems to me to be a serial killer out there.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   May 1st, 2008 10:53 pm ET

the Barbara news just seems odd now but I did not realize she had written a book so the timing may not be so odd for this revelation

xtina, chicago   May 1st, 2008 10:53 pm ET

most of us have enuf to worry about - i don’t wake up in the morning and worry about a serial killer

Jana, Indiana   May 1st, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Anderson, Good mix of stories tonight.

Welcome back and glad you are feeling better.

Good night all!

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   May 1st, 2008 10:55 pm ET

oh this video of the dropping babies is insane……I am not a mother and it gives me a heart attack

Chuck in Alabama   May 1st, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Barbara Walter’s sex life? EWWWW!

Thanks, now I have to read some Stephen King so I can sleep peacefully.

Andrea from Canada   May 1st, 2008 10:55 pm ET

OH MY! WHAT ARE THEY DOING TO THOSE BABIES!?! That is Horrible!!

Jennifer - Michigan   May 1st, 2008 10:55 pm ET

It’s hard to watch the babies being thrown off the building. Crazy!

EJ   May 1st, 2008 10:55 pm ET

That baby dropping thing is a “hot mess.”

Basra   May 1st, 2008 10:55 pm ET

i feel for those babies and their moms
yikes

Brian Persaud   May 1st, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Night bloggers, AC, Erica! It’s always fun :D

Maureen T   May 1st, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Another good book to add to my already growing list of books to read this summer! Can’t wait!…Good night Anderson and Erica! Great show! One more day and then the weekend! Yeah!

Teresa, Kent, OH   May 1st, 2008 10:56 pm ET

@xtina: being the mother of two white college age sons, I am a tad concerned… am definitely going to do some more research on all the details.

As for them being connected, look how long the Green River killings went on before anyone admitted to them being connected.

Megan Dresslar   May 1st, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Good night Anderson, Erica and Bloggers! :)
congrats Cameron!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!! I love his caption on Beat 360!!!!! :)

Angel Manners   May 1st, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Good night Anderson and Erica, don’t let the rising epidemic of bedbugs bite

Bonnie   May 1st, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Barbara talks about her affair on Oprah–not on the View!!!

Krista, VA   May 1st, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Throwing babies off a tower - frightening! What are they thinking! Aren’t there safer way to bring good luck - a bamboo plant maybe?Great show tonight!

Tricia- NH   May 1st, 2008 10:56 pm ET

how many of those babies develop brain trauma?

Mike from Syracuse NY   May 1st, 2008 10:57 pm ET

I bet all those babies end up with a fear of flying.

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   May 1st, 2008 10:57 pm ET

And the world cringed when Michael Jackson dangled his baby..This little one was dropped and tossed…what were they thinking..

Jennifer - Michigan   May 1st, 2008 10:57 pm ET

Goodnight Anderson and Erica. Good show tonight, glad you’re feeling better today.

Christine Mosley   May 1st, 2008 10:57 pm ET

Anderson,
I find the Joe Andrew story a little more significant than others may think simply because of who he was - a close Clinton loyalist. I also wanted to mention the long letter he wrote to his fellow superdelegates outlining his reasons, in great detail, for why he made the decision he did. But one of the best points he made was that if the superdelegates choose Clinton as the nominee, they will be doing essentially the same thing the Supreme Court did to Al Gore back in 2000. Think about how different life would be right now if the people’s choice had prevailed.

Jolene   May 1st, 2008 10:57 pm ET

The baby drop was a mouth dropper! I watched that video in awe! Can’t knock a different culture but those babies didn’t look like they were “diggin” that experience. I’m surprised that no bones were broken.

Great show tonight. Nite bloggers!

Christina, Windber, PA   May 1st, 2008 10:58 pm ET

Oh my gosh, those babies looked terrified! Poor things! I loved the ayyiyi! My Mom says that!

Glad you’re back and hope you really are feeling better.

Janna   May 1st, 2008 10:58 pm ET

You guys are so cute. “stop the video, really, please” Love you!

Renee   May 1st, 2008 10:58 pm ET

Not even a mattress! Bed sheet! This is weird. Between Chuck’s comment and this video good night!

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   May 1st, 2008 10:59 pm ET

How do the parents get the right child back????

Great show tonight Anderson and Erica. Great discussion on the blog as well.

See you all tomorrow. Have a great Friday

Night all

glen   May 1st, 2008 10:59 pm ET

Some say the smiley face crimes could be the work of a gang.

Jacqui Chan   May 1st, 2008 10:59 pm ET

Erica is funny
good night all

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   May 1st, 2008 10:59 pm ET
