Teresa   April 30th, 2008 11:07 am ET

Come on people, Obama has been 20 yrs. with this Pastor Wright and all of the sudden Obama dissagree with his worlds? Obama said "If Pastor Wright says that of me then he don't know me very well" , What I think is Pastor Wright knows Obama VERY WELL, that's why he spoke. Also, who you will pick if a open heart surgery need to be done to you: a 15+ years experienced Dr. or a 3 yr. experienced Dr.? I don't understand why picking Obama, the dumbest thing a hear was on young women: " O my god, he is so cute...that's why I going to vote on him" MY GOD!!! People, wake up. Woman, is our time.

Soren   April 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

Michelle Obama is highly intelligent in a graceful and dignified way.
As opposed to Hillary!.
Michelle Obama will be the greatest first lady ever. The rest of the
world will adore her.
Compared with Mrs. McCain and Hillary – Don't even go there.

Eileen M   April 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

I think it's ashame. However, I think perhaps Obama & his family put themselves in this situation. They should have distanced themselves from Reverend Wright a long time ago......Now Obama has to deal with the consequences which might cost him the election...... It's too unfortunate..... He has to try and put this behind him if that is possible.

linda ulman   April 30th, 2008 11:08 am ET

As a former teacher(white) in a predominately black schools few of Rev. Wright's comments at the NAAAcp surprised or disturbed me.
we need to come together and not let this hurt/divide us!!
Are we so "deficient" that we can't do it!?

Go ......... Michele Obama ...... We love you

Michelle   April 30th, 2008 11:14 am ET

I will be watching. It sounds like an
interesting interview. Thank you 360
for handling the story responsibly,
I found the panel last night of Ed
Rollins, David Gergen, Roland
Martin and Mary Frances Berry
to be informative and thoughtful.

Danielle   April 30th, 2008 11:16 am ET

i cant stand that lady..she tries to play the role of a strong black woman too hard..she is soo annoying and i will never want her to be first lady..and as for obama i cant believe americans are actually voting for him.#1 he has no experienceand number two he denies being a muslim when he really is.. ahh

P. Vandenberg   April 30th, 2008 11:19 am ET

Michelle, the best thing would be to not let the media use you as a tool
for fodder and spin. Let your husband continue to campaign on his
merits, and ignore that which is aimed to throw him off message.
Campaign along side of Barack, and not an interview in which whatever
you say will be spun against you. Beat them at their own game.

Jean Michelle   April 30th, 2008 11:20 am ET

Ask her what is their relationship with Pastor Wright now?

Are they still attending the church? You cannot divorce yourself from the Pastor without divorcing yourself from the church. He is their leader!

This has divided the african-american community.

Greg Anderson   April 30th, 2008 11:23 am ET

With the Rev. Wright attention going on we are missing the big picture. Sentor Clinton has dodged bullets, claimed four states as her home state and counting, which can't be true. She is making promises to fix every problem in the country and wants our trust. Bill Clinton has said her poor comments are because she was up late and tired because she is a 60 year old woman when she brought up 3:00 am. Do we want a President that truly speaks with a fork tongue. We owe it to our nation to select the best person to HELP put our nation on the right track. No one person can do it alone. All I'm asking is: Think before you vote!

Connie Roseborough   April 30th, 2008 11:29 am ET

This is the first time in my life I have decided to vote and to see Rev. Wright conduct himself the way he did was very disappointing to me and I am sure to everyone else in the Black community. Barack is trying to bring this coutry together not continuing to divide us!!!! Love you Barack and Michelle!

Eytan Halaban   April 30th, 2008 11:29 am ET

Could it be that Rev. Wright had concluded that after all Barak Obama is indeed not 'black enough'?

Randy   April 30th, 2008 11:30 am ET

First, how can Obama convince anyone he could run the country when he doesn't even know what goes on in his own church? Second, if Obama wife is ashamed to be an American, why does she want to live in America? That goes for anyone who is ashamed to be an American. Love it or leave it. Someone you disrespect died to provide you that choice. How could any true American want either Obama or his wife in the White House.

C.E. Adkins   April 30th, 2008 11:31 am ET

MMMM....Wonder if she will be as honest as her husband has been? Let's get real! From what I hear, Wright is being more honest about his beliefs than Obama is about his!! At least we know where Wright stands! Where there's smoke, there's fire & Obama is sending up hundreds of smoke signals.....when are we going to start reading them!!

Here are Obama's smoke signals (I'm sure there are more):

1. Obama's Wife's Comments...."never been proud of America until now"
2. Did Obama's representatives say to Canada "don't worry about what Obama is saying...it's just politics"
3. Speech in San Francisco to liberals "church going, gun toting folks just do this because they are bitter"
4. Speech to Pennsylvania folks...."I didn't really mean that" (he didn't mean for you to hear that)
5. Then finally having a personal friend, mentor, and pastor for 20 years & he doesn't even really know his beliefs. (Give me a break! Just like Wright says...he is giving speeches and saying what he has to win the nomination)

C.E. Adkins

Tammy, Berwick, LA   April 30th, 2008 11:32 am ET

Anxiously waiting to hear what she has to say and how much is campaign spin. She is just as guilty of sitting in that pew for 20 years as her husband and subjecting her family to this maniac. It is sort of funny watching the campaign squirm and flounder. The truth is always revealed about these jokers in the end. Too bad all this didn't happen before people were naive enough to vote a majority delegate count for him in the primaries.

In other thoughts, was there supposed to be more from New Orleans last night? Jeez. If that was all, Anderson I hope you at least had a chance to eat our amazing cuisine, walk around the Quarter, and hang out in a club or two last night after the show. I figure the trip down should have been worth someone's while.

Lashawn   April 30th, 2008 11:32 am ET

The metaphor of "crabs in a barrel" seems to fit the Wright controversy. Who cares about the black church these days? It is often homophobic, sexist and classist.

Karen-Phoenix   April 30th, 2008 11:33 am ET

Love you Michelle! Barack took his time and had excellent judgement. Hillary still hasn't gotten rid of Bill after their "fall out" and she backed the war!! I'm sooo proud of Barack!! He wasn't too late in denouncing Wright. And he did it with such class and conviction!!! I'm a 64 year old white working women who feels sooo safe with your husband in charge!!! Good judgement and he care more for the American people than himself. Hillary and McCain are almost narcistic in their desires to attain the presidency!!! Barack says "WE The People", McCain and Hillary say "I". What difference!!! Go Obama!!!

Helen Roy   April 30th, 2008 11:34 am ET

She would do well to shut up about this whole thing. Dredging it up everyday and whining about it shows you how not tough the Bamas are. Never will I vote for Obama even if I have to vote for McCain and I am a lifelong Democrat at 66 years old. Sorry state of affairs if we get a nominee who has no clue regarding the working class and the elderly and the poor White people.

debra lee   April 30th, 2008 11:34 am ET

this is old news. Michelle don't do this.

Veronica McNamara   April 30th, 2008 11:34 am ET

As I was driving to work this morning I was wishing I had a bumper sticker with the question:

If your minister said somethong outrageous, would it change who YOU are?

donna   April 30th, 2008 11:34 am ET

How can she undo her comments and explain them. She sat with her children in the pews when Wright was giving his sermons. This is strictly damage control and she wants the American peope to feel sorry for her. From what I see of her in Canada she would not make a good first lady. She may be educated but she has no class.

Wonder if you will post these comments. It seems when there is a comment against the Obama's it never gets through.

Go Hillary. This Canadian loves you.

Judy McClung   April 30th, 2008 11:35 am ET

I would like to know why she made the comment that she was proud to be an American for the lst time. I would worry that if she feels that way she does not belong in the White House. My husband and my daughter have served our country and I have always been proud to be an American and I am proud of our country and all we do for other countries.

Hayden   April 30th, 2008 11:35 am ET

I feel sorry for Anderson Cooper....he's going to be forced to sit through a whole interview listening to Michelle's lies.

Geoffrey   April 30th, 2008 11:36 am ET

Why now? Sen. Obama had over a month to separate himself from Wright, when the first tapes aired, and yet he didn't. Seems like an Obama political smoke screen strategy to this voter. Oh and now Michelle Obama is going to set the record straight,,,yea right.

Paula   April 30th, 2008 11:37 am ET

I am disgusted with Minister Wright, as a christian and black woman-he cannot speak for me or our churches. I attend a church that has crossed the racial lines, we have blacks, hispanics, whites and asians. I am just appauled, because it is so against what Senator Obama is striving for and what his campaign is all about from the very beginning-crossing the racial lines and bringing all of us together. I love Senator Obama and Michelle, and their message. I pray and I know that his campaign will overcome such negative attacks. Obama 08

Bill   April 30th, 2008 11:38 am ET

Michelle Obama said on Larry King since her husbands campaign that for the first time in her life she was proud of America.

Is she still proud of America since the Wright controversy?

Andrea   April 30th, 2008 11:43 am ET

Would it be okaay if you actually asked her about an ISSUE? Like the gas tax break? Is that okay? Or what she plans to do for kids in the White House. Can we please have one reporter or anchor ask a question on issues?

John Baker   April 30th, 2008 11:48 am ET

The biggest concern that I have about the Rev. Wright controversy are the inconsistencies in Barack's stories. The week before his Philadelphia speech Barack Obama said that he had NOT heard the Reverend make any of the comments in church. Then the following week he said that he DID hear the comments but did not agree with them. He either lied the first or the second time! Then in his speech in Philadelphia the story was totally different than his speech yesterday. I really believe that the BIG issue here is the fact that Barack has no integrity and is a liar!

Henri   April 30th, 2008 11:51 am ET

We love the Obamas because this is our last hope to change this country for the better. The Clintons are liars and cheaters. The American people deserve a Presidency we can be proud of and not cringe every time we hear the word 'President'. We will do everything in our power to elect Obama. Caroline Kennedy was correct when she described Obama as a person we can proudly pass the torch to. Let's giter done America!

Mary Phoenix   April 30th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Michelle and Barack should stop trying to blame everything on Rev. Wright, they should speak the truth about what's really going own and should not hide their feelins about what they really feel. After tonight go home and stop Michell and Barak are not honest people they are no better than Hillary they are both telling untruth about different things. Michell has to answer herself about the staments she made!! Is she proud of America now, Are they friends with Rev. Wright NOW!! GET IT Right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

brenda, New York   April 30th, 2008 11:55 am ET

Michelle Obama is arrogant just like her husband. I think Obama is a liar and he just wants to make a name for himself. All of sudden he has decided to throw his pastor under bus. Why didn't he do it before. Now whatch how Reveren Wright comes back and exposes Obama with everything he knows about him. Obama does not fool anyone, at least not me. I will vote for him if he is the nominee because I'm a democrate. However, I would not be thrilled about it. Un the other hand, Hillary is the right person for president, and I know she will do a very good job. She just needs to be given chance. Obama brings too much problems with him right now, and you all can rest a sure that he be a problem for the democratic party, when he goes up against the Republicans. They are going to make mint's meat out of him. They can not touch Hillary, she is too smart and tough. Also she knows her stuff, where he don't. We all want hope and change, but Obama is not ready. I strongly belive he will be ready in 2012. Obama needs to learn how to crawl before he can walk. Hilllary '08!!!

victor   April 30th, 2008 11:57 am ET

hey Barrack, lets get this movement going againg and not waste our time on these issues just divide the country. the people are waiting . wright is the past we are now dealing with the future. not saying that we don't respect the past , but your vision is waht we need to move this country and the world forward

Body Canada   April 30th, 2008 11:57 am ET

AC 360, please you guys should live Obama alone. You can not hold a child responsible for the crime committed by his Dad...maybe only in America. If Dems. really want to take over white house, you guys should focus on how to get Obama and Mrs Negative Clinton work to gether. Otherwise the Reps gets another 4 years....

Sue in Florida   April 30th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

Here you go again....with bias reporting. So when do you plan to
offer the same to the other candidates? You keep playing the Obama
card, why one must wonder. Anyhow, this is why 360 is no longer a
program that I make sure I see each night. Please be fair, this is so
not the Anderson I once watched and put on a pedestal. Thanks!

mnjack   April 30th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

She is a fine one to talk!
She is very much viewed as a black seperatist as well as not
proud of America.
The more she keeps her racist mouth shut, the better.
She is also an empty vessel and a Jackie Kennedy wanna-be
look-alike.
Sorry, I have read many similar comments in the blogs.

Doris   April 30th, 2008 12:00 pm ET

Michelle Obama is a beautiful and strong woman!
I have enjoyed all of her speeches.
Barack is a very lucky man.
It will be so exciting seeing both of you in the White House!

James   April 30th, 2008 12:02 pm ET

Thank you for coming out and telling the whole story, when will this end, I am tried of hearing about Rev, Wright story. We need to talk about Obama so Lets move on.

Jessie Brown   April 30th, 2008 12:03 pm ET

When will you people realize that you are only fanning the flames of controversy, there are more important things to talk about that Rev. Wright. Many in America will never understand the Black Church and its biblical teachings. To say that a person is anti-American because they say something that mainstream America does not like is rediculous, isn't that what makes this country the envy of others?

vicijoy   April 30th, 2008 12:04 pm ET

How many people Obama will throw under the train before this election ends?

Obama attached himself to Rev. Wright in his book as his spiritual leader when he was not so famous and tried to sell his book.

Obama did not get mad because Rev. Wright said G..D… America, Obama did not get mad because Rev. Wright said US government create aid virus ….., Obama did not get mad because Rev. Wright said American bring 911 onto themselves. Obama get mad because Rev. Wright rip his phony mask off when he tells the whole world that Obama hide him at the basement to pray on the day of his candidacy announcement.

Rev. Wright did not hurt Obama. Obama hurts Obama.

Cece   April 30th, 2008 12:05 pm ET

Wonderful! I really like her! She is wonderful. Very smart cookie. I can't wait to hear what she has to say. This is a shame that all of this has gone down the way it has. Obama is still the best candidate, despite controversy.

ohio nurse   April 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Yeah! Michele Obama is one classy, extraordinary lady, would make a great 1st lady! Can't wait to hear her in person on your show! My husband & I are white, conservative, middle-class, independent voters – who are behind Obama all the way this time around!

Devoin   April 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

I have watch this race since it started and I really like Obama and his Family. Too watch Rev Wright speech the other day, which was so hurtfull to so many blacks to tink that he speaks for all black churches was ridiculouis.
What I got from Rev Wright Performance was a man promoting him self, by using Obama patform and name. I think it about exposer to promoting his agenda, while distorying someone who is viewed as hope for the future. Rev Wright will not be remember for what he has done in the past for the chcurch , but who distory the only African American who had a shot of winning the Presidence. You can't bring everyone with you to the show becuase they will bring you down.
I'm a software engineer African American who had to do they same as Mr. Obama. I had to work my way thought school, nothing was given to me. I'm the same age as Mr. Obama and have kids. we have worked our way to where we are. You have a lot of People here in Wisconsin with you no matter what happen. I'm pround of what you have achived and hopefully the younger generation learn form what you have done.
God bless you and your Family

David Klaboe   April 30th, 2008 12:06 pm ET

Barack Obama is faltering in the polls. The comments of reverend Wright are affecting his standings. But it is entirely about Obama's judgement or lack of it that people are losing their convictions in his message. True, everyone of the candidates has baggage, but the trouble with Obama is that he painted a very saintly picture of himself, and now he has this ugly problem to deal with. He swore allegiance with the pastor just a few weeks ago when this controversy initially broke, and he made his eloquent race speech in Philadelphia, but now he has broken that allegiance. Understandably, yes but why not then, when these stories first broke? Or even more importantly, years ago when he had to have known much of reverend Wrights inflammatory racist and anti-American views. It also points back to his wife's remarks that she made on several occasions that she was now proud of being an American for the first time in her life. Comments which clearly are from the same theology as their pastor and close family friend. Hillary Clinton should and I expect will wisely stay away from this fray. This campaign is very much about who the person really is. We have seen the mistakes and flaws with Clinton, and she has paid a price. But we know who she is. Obama's flaws have been seemingly kept carefully hidden until now, and I think many are wondering if they really know much about this man. Will he cost the democratic party the white house should he be the candidate? I think so.

Larry McCumber   April 30th, 2008 1:06 pm ET

I'm sorry the truth about who the Obama's are and where they're coming from. People in America were duped again. Now that I've seen Wright, I see Senator Obama's facial expressions and hand jestures as the same. He's been painted in a corner and now has to lie his way out. He's not who he has wanted us to believe he is. My vote just went to Hillary. At least I know who I'm voting for.

Diane Law   April 30th, 2008 1:10 pm ET

I am delighted to hear that Michelle Obama will be with Anderson Cooper tonight.

As you probably know, the race-mongering bloggers have had a field day with everything from the research papers she wrote as a student to the "proud for the first time" comment she made earlier in the campaign. By the way, after the horrific impacts of scandal and short-sighted trade deals during the Clinton era, and the "six guns at noon" policies and incompetence of the Bush, Jr. years, I understood exactly what she meant when she made that comment, and felt the same. She senses, as I do, that the American people are awakening from a long hard work/no time to pay attention stupor.

The big question remaining for Barack is why he stayed in a church with a pastor who espoused such a divisive message. I hope that Michelle explains clearly that the reason her husband stayed with the church of Rev. Wright, and came to it in the first place, was because of her family and their roots in that church. She must provide an explanation that will will "ring true" for the Indiana and N. Carolina voters.

The Obama campaign is taking a big risk with this interview tonight. Michelle is a woman who is up to the task. I expect that your ratings will soar.

Andrea Daniely   April 30th, 2008 1:11 pm ET

Please tell Michelle Obama to tell Barrack to keep his head HIGH and be not weary because more than he could ever know WE BELIEVE in him and what he wants to do for AMERICA.

Be like a tree planted.....

Darryl Madison   April 30th, 2008 1:12 pm ET

According to the NY Daily News, Barbara Reynolds, a dedicated Clinton supporter, organized the Wright press conference.

I don't know if Reynolds' eagerness to help Wright stage a disastrous news conference with the national media was a way of trying to help Clinton – but it's safe to say she didn't see any conflict between promoting Wright and supporting Clinton.

Why haven’t your news agencies reported these stories, which put Clinton right back into dirty politics, but more importantly more in the Wright’s story. It seems Wright and Reynolds both supports Clinton now.

Grace   April 30th, 2008 1:23 pm ET

We support your Michelle!

OBAMA 08

Tannis   April 30th, 2008 1:26 pm ET

Obama's campaign must think he's in real trouble if they are having Michelle Obama speak to you. I think that they should have left it alone after Barack spoke yesterday as now it looks like scrambling to save a campaign.

emmy   April 30th, 2008 1:29 pm ET

it's all a plan..Obama and Wright..scripted srategy..

JIM IN OKLA   April 30th, 2008 1:32 pm ET

THIS SHOULD BE GOOD, SHE IS PRETTY GOOD AT SPEAKING BEFORE THINKING.....................HAS THERE BEEN ANY COMMENTS FROM ANY OF THE OTHER BLACK LEADERS, AL SHARPTEN OR JESSIE JACKSON CONCERNING REV. WRITE? THEY ARE ALWAYS THE FIRST TO CONDEM OTHERS ON RACE AND HATE.

Debra of Rochester Hills MI   April 30th, 2008 1:33 pm ET

Good Afternoon Anderson,

As an Obama supporter I would first share my sorrow with the family. We forget these are real people just like we are. Many people don't understand that your church is apart of your family; so I'm sure this is a very difficult time. I would also like to express how Barack continues to rise to the occassion. In the face of adversity he stands up and takes personal responsibility each and every time; it's appreciated and respected.

One last thought/suggestion: I think it's important to address the bitter comments head on as he has done with everything else. He needs to give a press conference as he did on race and Wright; explaining what he meant and not allow Hillary and Mccain to define him. I saw an interview with Barack and Charlie Rose (4-years ago) talking about the same thing; this would help voters understand what he meant and to better understand that his opponents and the media have mangled his words to define him on their terms.

With you'll to the end
Debra

Annette Smith   April 30th, 2008 1:34 pm ET

The thing that troubles me the most is that Rev. Wright may be "right" when he says that Obama is a "politician". If Obama really wanted to go out in the community and do good why didn't he stand up against the radical preachings of Wright and express his beliefs? You cannot sit there for 20 years and not agree with these beliefs to some extent. If you were indeed offended or did not agree with these preachings would you have not left to find another church and/or pastor that espoused your belief system? He can say what he wants, this man was more than just his minister by his own admission, some of what he said had to rub off, after all we're talking of the 20 years of his adulthood. The last guy that wanted to be a "uniter" has a 28% approval rating.

Mario O'dwyer   April 30th, 2008 1:36 pm ET

The country would be honoured to have you as our first lady!!!

joyce   April 30th, 2008 1:37 pm ET

great she is a wonderful and smart lady. how great for barack to have such a strong lady to be by his side. with the two of them we will take back our country, pride.dignaty
go micheall

Nelly   April 30th, 2008 1:39 pm ET

Oh, this should add to CNN's even-handed coverage of the Dem race.

Paris   April 30th, 2008 1:43 pm ET

This is not about her family. This is about the truth behind the believes of this family.
This reflects the lack of judgment and leader ship on Obama’s part.
He knew this man for 20 years, had him involved in every important event in his life and yet he had no Idea what Wright stood for and was all about!!!
Obama is either not very smart or not telling the truth about who he is.
If he was very courageous as some you in the media is calling it, Obama should have said all this two months ago.
He didn’t until the pulls showed that he is loosing. I call this opportunist and certainly NOT courageous.

Either way he is not fit to be the president.

emmanuel   April 30th, 2008 1:45 pm ET

I think Rev. Wright has been an enomous stombling block for Sen. Obama's campaign. I'm suprised that as a powerful intellectual as his stature he cannot see the damage he is causing his own church memeber's success in life. This is a big challenge to him to reflect. I think he has to go back to his mother for an advice.
Thank you.

It is not a good idea for Michelle Obama to be on CNN tonight. She has good intentions for her husband; however, her demeanor reminds me of that of Rev Wright. She is well educated but she comes off arrogant, I guess she was in church more that Obama.

THERESA   April 30th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

I'm sorry but I just don't believe that any of Rev. Wright's comments are new to the Obama family. I think that Rev. Wright probably feels that Obama through him under the bus to protect his public image and I think he is probably right. Wright seems very passionate about his vies and I don't believe he would have or could have hidden them from the Obama's for 20 years.

Amelia   April 30th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

I'd like to know about Michele's thesis, why it is under lock & key. Did she write about the fact that she wasn't proud to be an American but only now since her husband has a chance at the White House with her being the first lady

skm   April 30th, 2008 1:49 pm ET

AC, Perhaps you could also ask about the Ayers, Dohrn and Auchi connections, and Odinga connections.

Regina Harpe   April 30th, 2008 1:51 pm ET

Why now, near the end of election religion comes into play. It's disturbing since government has seperated church and state.
Now this shows up in the media -is it strategy. Sure is getting
alot of air time.
I'll still believe you walk the walk ,not talk the talk.

Rena   April 30th, 2008 1:56 pm ET

Anderson-

Personally I don't think Michelle need to have this interview. Everybody in America will be waiting for her to say the wrong thing. How will Obama move forward if everyone keep talking about it. Just rest assure all who are having a problem with voting for Obama will be looking for any excuse that will come out her mouth to use against him and his campaign. Are you all trying to set Obama up to lose? I mean let it go already. Why haven't you questioned Hillary on their relation with Wright?

Kathy   April 30th, 2008 1:59 pm ET

Good luck, Mrs. Obama, you are a lady of grace and light. I hope that the media doesn't take any of your comments out of context and use them to hurt you and Senator Obama (again). You are very brave. I wish the best for you and your family as this must be a difficult time for you all. Thank you for hanging tough and letting Senator Obama try to lead us all into better times. We are counting on him!! (Mr. Cooper: you better be nice or I'll be sending you a nasty-gram tomorrow. Worse than that ... I'll burn your book that proudly sits on my shelf!) Thanks, Anderson, for letting us comment.

Lela-NC   April 30th, 2008 2:01 pm ET

I can't wait to watch it! Michelle is so honest and straight forward. I hope she'll state how it was a Clinton a high-ranking supporter that invited Wright to speak at the National Press Club. Either way she's a strong woman, and Obama is lucky to have her in his corner.

M.   April 30th, 2008 2:02 pm ET

Do you wish you could turn back time and not give your husband the okay to run for the nomination?

jes   April 30th, 2008 2:03 pm ET

Hi Anderson, Is Mrs. Obama concerned that if the Obamas become the First Family the Rev. Wright will probably write a tell all book (or two)about them. For 20 years Wright served as confidante, spiritual advisor, friend etc. to the Obamas. He will make a fortune writing a bestseller about his long & personal relationship with President & First Lady. Now that Barack has denounced Wright & his ministry the Rev. will be a thorn in their side for years.

Stephanie Vogelsong   April 30th, 2008 2:04 pm ET

Anderson:
I am unclear as to whether Michelle Obama actually opposes the controversial positions of Rev. Wright. Below I quote part of the introduction to her senior thesis at Princeton. If these divisive statements are no longer views held by her, what exactly influenced her reversal of opinion? I feel the first lady of the United States should be more open minded and unifying as a role model for both blacks and whites. Finally, her own words state that she would concentrate her resources to benefit the black community. This is dangerous language. How will a Obama led administration distribute its resources? As a white middle aged female, do I have to be worried about reverse discrimination?

MICHELLE OBAMA:
"These experiences have made it apparent to me that the path I have chosen to follow by attending Princeton will likely lead to my further integration and/or assimilation into a White cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society; never becoming a full participant. This realization has presently, made my goals to actively utilize my resources to benefit the Black community more desirable."
–quote from introduction to her Senior Thesis at Princeton University.
(this thesis was held from public access until recently)

Hello Anderson

are you going to potray president jimmy carter as a person with radical views just like you did with Rev. Jeremiah Wright? President jimmy carter is blaming US policies in middle-east as terrorist act. Your show made a big scene about Rev. Jeremiah Wright than any other show i know. I hope your show Anderson cooper 360 degrees comes to 0 degrees. By the way where is Erica Hill?

How can something so personal as weather or not you should stay with a church for x amount of years be put into the spot lite; public person or not. I am catholic and although I dissagree with the fact that preist abused young boys for years; I still attend the catholic church and not intend on leaving any time soon. Anderson please share this anology with your audience tonight.

Thanks

Hats off to CNN: It is about time Obama deals with the hard questions...Hillary certainly rose to the occasion!

Pat_HOU   April 30th, 2008 2:16 pm ET

Obama simply has too much baggage/controversy. We all have Obama fatigue. I wish the media would stop giving their ongoing, bias coverage in favor of whatever Obama does. Last night the pundits tried to convince us that Obama was slow to come out and speak about the Wright issue because Obama had not heard or seen Wright's comments soon enough. Get real - Obama's watchdogs are able to report & respond to any issue from any TV or radio immediately, so why not the same immediate response on the Wright issue?.

Mrs. Linda Carter   April 30th, 2008 2:17 pm ET

I'm glad that Mrs. Obama will be able to share her thoughts concerning all the controversy of her ex-pastor. I feel that there's just too much press concerning Rev, Wright and that it's a distraction from Senator Obama's campaign. As Senator Obama stated he is running for President and it's the issues that American are facing is what needs to be heard. I applaud this great woman for standing by her husband and I pray that he is the next President of the United States. WE NEED CHANGE!

Debra Edwards   April 30th, 2008 2:19 pm ET

I am an Ind. voter and lower middle class 50 plus woman that thinks that the issues as Obama has stated has taken 2nd place to this Wright story. I go to church for religion and forgiveness of sins, as Obama has stated from day 1. NO paster of a church dictates how an individual thinks. Most are placed by their superiors, besides he is NO LONGER the head paster there The more people talk of Wright the happier he is. You are feeding his EGO. Wright is not an Amer. problem. Let;s start looking at issues that are. Deb

Sharon from Indiana   April 30th, 2008 2:21 pm ET

I was an Obama fan. However, he has flip flopped on his position with regard to his pastor so much that I am now going to cast mty vote for Hillary. I thought he was honest and not e in this as a game, but I guessed wrong. In fact, many of my friends and I are thinking about how we could have been so fooled? Hillary is correct. Talk is just talk -20 years, a spiritual mentor, and a book title are no good for politics, so throw him to the curb. Which decision will he throw to the curb next? His desire to help the low income families?
No longer supporting the candidate of great Judgment – so great that we should "trust" it.
WAs Obama, now Hillary!

Raymond   April 30th, 2008 2:23 pm ET

I believe this battle is not yet over. The daunting task with respect with the Rev. Wright issue should be brushed aside. My main contribution to Mrs Obama is that she is a woman of faith and that alone should lead them through this uphill battle to reclaim what has been destined by God to be. We all have come to terms with the fact that our loved and cherished friends, family relations have in more than one instance failed to stand-up to their obligations. More often than not, we fall and and we don't stay there, but rise up with a new enthusiasm to fight and finish the race. Mr Obama is a true fighter and the world world is watching and those of us who wish to see that change happen, only needs to pray hard for God's direction, in times of trial and tribulations as this.
May the Lord give you and your husband the wisdom to come out of this controversy and let reason prevail in the minds of those who are still sitting on the fence.

Dennis   April 30th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

Many ask the question as to why Obama stayed at Trinity all those years. The answer is simple. Wright preached christian based sermons 99.9% of the time that's why. What we got from reverend Wright over the past weekend was the greatest hits of his thoughts over a 40 plus year span. If he was saying this stuff every Sunday don't you think we would have more footage. Afterall the church's service is broadcast on TV and the internet. Where's all the footage of this so called raving lunatic? I bet after 9/11 there were a lot of sermons in tuned with Wright's perspective in white and black churches. I wonder if any video surfaces from some of those.

Mrs. Linda Carter   April 30th, 2008 2:28 pm ET

I'm glad that Mrs. Obama will get a chance to talk about the controversy surrounding Rev. Wright. It's refreshing to see this great woman stand by her husband. Obama for President.

His fame and name has travelled far and wide, I sincerly feel that the World is looking towards America to pratice what they preach, and elect a President that will bring the world together, rather then divide us, he is neither black nor white he has the best of both worlds in him.

I don't know what the big deal is about Michelle Obama attending your show tonite. It is much more of a publicity being given that needed. Why do they have to get a special treatment? I think despite Obama's lack of judgement about the Pastor, it seems to do no harm to him. He is allowed to make mistakes and be forgiven but not Hillary. Ridiculous!!!

I felt Senator Obama's pain and anger yesterday at what can only be described as a sneak attack by someone he considered a friend.

It is unfortunate that the Senator in Philadephia put everything on the line for this person who then turned around and betrayed him.
Rev. Wright could have waited to fight back. If he was a real friend and someone that put his friend's campaign above his own possible book deals he would have remained behind the scenes.

I think Senator Obama should realize that if this is important to him that the fight for this campaign and for this country and the people that he can't place them second again. He did in Philadelphia and Rev. Wright proved that that was a mistake.

People are now wondering if he's strong and tough enough to fight for this and do what is necessary. Clinton is showing she is willing...
and unfortunately letting Wright off the hook and distancing himself from "jump street" people are questioning his determination and gumption.

He now needs to put Rev Wright COMPLETELY behind him and focus on the people and winning this election. And that's it.

Obama is the only candidate for now that will be able to uinte this party. If he is not, repulicans will surly stay in power.I have hopes that Obama will come out in flying colours. His ex-pastor has nothing to offer.

Jim   April 30th, 2008 3:26 pm ET

Enough!! Leave the Reverend Wright thing alone. There is other news. How much more do you want to hurt the Obama campaign. Perhaps the press can anger his wife also and get her to misspeak to extend this more. Does she have to back the bus over Reverend Wright too? Will that be enough for you?

What about Hillary's Pastor. Get her on to talk. Lets get to know her pastor. McCain? Does he have a pastor can we hear from him? Perhaps they have said something that can be blown up out of proportion.

Bill Clinton was freindly to Rev. Wright. Bring him on and have him drive over Pastor Wright too.

dora   April 30th, 2008 3:27 pm ET

I didn’t know that ‘low lifes’ existed among the presidential candidates.
Hillary’s campaign has followed the ‘low life’ style by insulting, degrading and poisoning. Is Rev. Jeremiah Wright being paid by Hillary?
I am interested in ‘BEST JUDGEMENT SINCE DAY ONE’ on: the war, gas, food and house prices, foreclosures, health care and college tuition; not in ‘low life’ style criticism.
We need someone ‘calm, cool and collected’ with BEST CHARACTER and BEST JUDGEMENT – like OBAMA – for the decision making process in politics.

Diamond Dixon   April 30th, 2008 3:29 pm ET

Obama has lost my vote because of this. Not because of Pastor Wright, but because he denounced him

I have seen Obama in church before, sitting there listening to Rev. I cannot believe that he would throw Rev. Wright under the bus like that, when Rev. Wright just took responsibility for what he said. He separated himself as a minister, from Obama as a politician. And what did Obama do? He got on TV and trashed him.

What happens if Obama loses? Then he has severed ties between the man the backed him for running for President in the first place, when everyone was against it at first.

To me, Obama is a punk. He punked out on Rev. Wright, and did not defend him. Rev has been painted as a monster in the press, so NO ONE can judge his actions because NO ONE has received the negative press that he has.

I want a president that will stand up for what is right, no matter what the consequences are. And THAT IS NOT OBAMA!

Sue-BC-Canada   April 30th, 2008 3:34 pm ET

Hi Anderson,

I have appreciated your interviewing skills in the past when you have done programs for Oprah. I would like to see you have a conversation with Michelle and not an interrogation. Don't disappoint us!!! Rev Wright is not their whole life. It would be nice to hear more about her Mom and how her girls are doing with all this unnecessary media attention.

Pat   April 30th, 2008 4:10 pm ET

I am terribly upset by the obvious timing of Rev Wright's volitile & inflammatory comments of the past Sun & Mon. How heartless and cruel, does he honestly believe they will have no negative impact on Senator Obama's campaign?!

I only hope voters can look beyond all this and truly see the man who carries such a vital message for all Americans.

Jeannette Winchell from St. Charles, Iowa   April 30th, 2008 4:11 pm ET

I was fortunate enough to be able to meet Barack and Michelle prior to the Iowa caucus and hear them both speak at several events and town hall meetings. I have the utmost respect for both of them. It deeply saddens me that others have not been able to see their faith, love of family and strong character. If we continue down this destructive road of distractions, we will lose the one hope we have to change Washington for the good. In the words of a rural Iowan, these are good people and we are blessed to know them. Please media, I'm begging you, get back to the real issues we are facing and allow others to get to know the Obamas the way we were able to here in Iowa.

Conchita Vecchio   April 30th, 2008 4:16 pm ET

What's there to talk about? She knew what Wright was all about just as much as her husband did.

Mike C.   April 30th, 2008 4:19 pm ET

Mrs. Obama should be asked why earlier this year she said it was the first time she was proud of America and if she was present
when her pastor made degrading comments (about America ) ,in their
church.

Kathy   April 30th, 2008 4:26 pm ET

Looking forward to it ! See you tonight.

Cheryl   April 30th, 2008 4:28 pm ET

I'm hoping that you'll ask Michelle some of these questions:

How can Barack say it wasn't the same man he met 20-years ago in front of the Press Corp but how about last Sunday when he was still defending Wright in a Fox interview? What about last month when he gave his famous race speech or about when they prayed together in the basement of the Illinois Capital last year? Or how about, the fact that Obama has said, not once but on many occasions that Wright was a father-figure in his church, the man who inspired him to become a Christian, married him, dedicated his house, baptized his children, gave him the title of his second book and theme for his presidential run and worked on his campaign. This isn't stuff of 20-years ago, this is stuff as recent as last week.

So why now? Because he had to? Why attend that Church with that type of rhetoric? Why for so long?

If Barack's message is that he is different, he's not a typical politician, if he is a uniter, if he transcends race, why didn't he explain this long ago and why do I feel this has created more of a racial divide in America at a time when we need to be pulling together on other issues of greater importance for the whole country?

Alice Cato   April 30th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

I think that it very sad what happen between Oboma and his Pastor it never should have happened and this is what the people wanted an know they have it, it is over because his pastor never should have made it seem like Obama agreed with him but was lying to the american people that is what made Oboma mad Oboma could have throwed him under the bus but he did not, he forced Oboma to do what he did I just pray for the both of them and Oboma can keep spreading the good word to the people.

African   April 30th, 2008 4:29 pm ET

It's a scandal that Obama is prevented from conveying his message of hope and reconciliation for America and the rest of the world because of a narcissist and self-centered pastor.
In the meantime the other candidates and more particularly Clinton are taking advantage from this flood in a glass of water. We should be talking about imaginary snipers and the war much more and about the fact that the Clintons also sought the guidance of the same Wright.
Last but not least, I think it is a greater LIABILITY for America to have a president whose current spouse is Bill the Cheater than a President whose EX-pastor is Wright!

Jeff   April 30th, 2008 4:41 pm ET

I cannot believe that Sen Obama had no clue as to his Reverends views. Senator Obama attended Rev. Wrights Church for 20 years....Rev. Wright baptized his chlidren.....Rev. Wright officiated at Obama's Wedding.....and Obama said that Reverend Wright was like a second Father to him.
Even if what the Senator is saying Is True (that he had NO CLUE)... You would have to ask yourself....Do you want him running the country...since he was clueless to a Man he was so close to for 20 plus years.
I am sorry to say that I voted for Sen. Obama in the Pa. primary....however he lost my vote if he continues on in November.

JTomorrow   April 30th, 2008 4:47 pm ET

What is the truth about Michelle Obama who considers this a mean country she was never proud of. Was her father really a precinct captain for the Daley machine? She also sat in Rev. Wright's extremist church for 20 years. Does she also suddenly see the light about him?

Lance   April 30th, 2008 4:49 pm ET

Anderson: What made you a star on CNN was your coverage of Kartrina/NO. It showed your passion on the people effected. Are you running out of meaningful story to work on? Wright on Monday, Wright on Tuesday, Wright on Wed. When is it going to stop? How is this Wright guy impact American life??? It's a fair story if you somehow find something deep in this mess that is more meaningful to educate voters. So far, I heard none of that. Just Wright said this, Wright said that. When you devote so much airtime on such story, it shows you passed the peak of your career, much like the Obama campaign.
I often go to CNN the first thing after I turn on my TV. I didn't want to do that lately because I'm tired of hearing CNN coverage of the same old things.

Barb   April 30th, 2008 4:53 pm ET

Ask her how her husband could make a statement like the one he made about his white grandmother. Quote " I could no longer disown the Rev. Wright than I could my white grandmother ". What did he mean by that.

sam   April 30th, 2008 4:54 pm ET

The fourth estate spends to much time on ideological "flap-trap". Do America a real favor – contrast what she will bring to the White House verses Bill Clinton?

Mike P.   April 30th, 2008 4:55 pm ET

Come on Anderson, CNN. Let this Wright issue die. It's like you want the country to be divisive. You guys and Fox are fueling the hate and anger that Obama and most of America wants to change.

I used to love watching this network, but lately you've been acting like that high school snot that tries to instigate fights.

If that is your intention, let it be known. If not, talk about America and what America really needs, not some ego maniac who wants his 15 mins of fame. He's recieved it, move on.

Real Issues, PLEASE!

Jaye   April 30th, 2008 4:57 pm ET

Come on, Anderson – what do you expect her to say? Ask her WHY they stayed with Wright for 20 years. Why they had their little girls sit and listen to this hatred. She will be smart enough to say that they didn't attend that church regularly – wait and see. She may be a smart cookie, but she is one angry woman. She is NOT First Lady material as much as her husband is NOT presidential material.

Secondly, to the girl who cant spell Obama,

Pastor Wright didnt make it seem like Obama was agreeing with him about anything. Obama and his family sat in those seats. No one forced them to do that. Wake UP!!!!!

Pastor Wright is not to blame for anything. If you were being ripped to shreds in the media, wouldnt you defend yourself?

These sermons are from 2001. Get a grip and talk about something that really matters........

jes   April 30th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

Hey Henri , You call Hilary liar! What do you call Obama who stated both on CNN & Fox that he in 20 years never once did he talk politics with Rev. Wright. I call that lies, enlightenig me please! What would you call it!

Victoria   April 30th, 2008 5:12 pm ET

To the people who say "Obama stayed in the church 20 years."

Millions of Catholics stayed on in churches were priests knowingly covered for and protected pedophiles. Why aren't you angry with them ?

Additionally, many people – including CNN newscasters who are parishioners at Wright's church have never heard him say anything untoward.

Just think about this: if Wright had been doing this for 20 years, why on earth would Hillary Clinton have invited him to the White House to comfort Bill during the Lewinsky crisis ? Do you honestly think she would have invited Wright if he had been incendiary at the time ?

Additionally, I don't know about the rest of you, but Obama was 26 for Pete's sake when he joined the church. For those of us who are in their forties, I know we all made choices in friends and activities that we may not choose now.

Obama wasn't running for President at age 26. Was he supposed to peer into the future and say "Oh, I shouldn't join this church because it might come up when I run for President."

One last thing: Hillary stayed in a marriage for more than 30 years to a man who has been unfaithful the entire time . You might want to ask her why she stayed with Bill for so long ?

Pam   April 30th, 2008 5:18 pm ET

I agree with everyone who states we should be talking about the important issues: war, health care, economy and the crumbling of this nation. I still can't figure out what happened to separation of church and state? Who cares about Rev. Wright????

John Doe   April 30th, 2008 5:19 pm ET

Wright blesses people who go to war, as part of his patriotic duties, rather than teaching love, the type discussed in the Bible. Then he claims the U.S. reaped 9/11 because of its attacks on other countries. It looks like the U.S. reaped the consequences of Wright's inability to teach love – what hypocracy! Wright is so bloodguilty for the lives lost on 9/11 and those being lost as a result of his teaching – that it is one's patriotic duty to kill another. I'm baffled!

Jolene   April 30th, 2008 5:21 pm ET

Perhaps it is because I'm still an undecided voter, but I'm not seeing all the bias that the bloggers keep mentioning is occurring between CNN, 360, and Obama. Every network is talking about Rev. Wright and Obama. The mixed opinions, some more passionate than others, has been very interesting to follow. With that being said, I'm looking forward to hearing what Michelle has to say tonight.

Obama is still the best canidate out there. Hillary lied about Bosnia and repeated THE STORY several times. Nothing much has been said about it since her lame excuse OR SO CALLED APOLOGY.To make fun of it on the Leno show was disgraceful. She was not a good first lady and I certainly don't want her as my President ( NOR DO I WANT BILL CLINTON BACK IN THE WHITE HOUSE)!!! Perish the thought of having John McCain as President. We need someone better than these two. Go Obama!!!

Mary   April 30th, 2008 5:24 pm ET

As a Catholic who had no idea that priests I once considered wonderful holy men were molesting children behind the scenes, I can tell you that you don't always know the person standing in the front of the church. You can not hold one person accountable for the words and actions of another person. Does anyone truly believe that Barack Obama believes in what Wright has said about our government? Come on. Does anyone actually believe that Barack Obama, who was raised by a white mother, has a racist bone in his body? I'm tired of people using this as an excuse for not supporting Obama. Let the man speak for what he believes in. I'm certainly hopeful that nobody is holding me accountable for the pedophile priests in my faith or the bishops who allowed the abuse to continue. Maybe, just maybe, Barack Obama was in church for the faith, not necessarily the Pastor who came with it. Maybe he was there for prayer. Maybe he was there to be an instrument of peace.

Maggie   April 30th, 2008 5:25 pm ET

AC360, first I have no money for food; I have no money for gas; soon I will have not job and then no home to call my own............ Please ask the important questions and get off of the wagon of sensationalism.......... we are a thinking, and knowledgable country and as voters we will sort out the what if's from the truths........... RIGHT now we need answers to the daily struggles all of us are facing and ALL of the canidates must answer them.......... Thank you

xtina, chicago IL   April 30th, 2008 5:30 pm ET

Is ac360 asking the tough questions of Mrs Obama such as, does she still think this country is mean? Does she think some Americans who heard her say this country is mean will be insulted? Does she hold the same view as Barack that a child born to a teenager is a punishment? Why does she think capitalism should be replaced by big gov't? Why does she think it's not good for graduates to go into the private sector? In the 20 yrs. at TUCC, did she ever denounce a sermon by Rev Wright?

T Davis   April 30th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

Seeds are planted early – why would you take your children to church week after week to train them if you disagree with what is being taught. Would you send them to a school that you felt was not a good influence unless you had no choice as to the school they would or could attend?

cazador   April 30th, 2008 5:31 pm ET

So a woman has to come in and clean up........GO HILLARY

Mary in Oklahoma   April 30th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

Michelle Obama knew the teachings and ranting of their chosen church. She will have nothing to say that I can believe. Everything that is said about the Rev. Wright is just more political pandering.
Senator Obama is not honest. He should just go back to South Chicago and bring some economic opportunities to his district. Help stop the crimes, gangs and drugs. If a small district can not be improved by Senator Obama's influence, how can anyone expect him to mend the problems of 50 states?

If Senator Obama is the best hope for America, we are indeed in bad trouble. He is all talk and no real solutions.

Clem   April 30th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

I love American politics. It is the biggest reality show and this one this year isn't boring at all. I am stunned by the power of the media on the masses. I have seen collective delusion and collective amnesia. I have seen people in one moment cheered one candidate and the next booed the same. How people are judged by there records and criticised by their assoiciation yet talk of peacefull co-existence. I am shocked how unity is taken for uniformity. Yet, I doubt I see a large number of folks who truly think for themself than go with the flow. Read in between the line.

Jim   April 30th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Is CNN morphing into that "fair and Balanced" network? There is an important primary election going on and the people need to hear from the candidates not their spouses and strategists.

greg   April 30th, 2008 5:36 pm ET

Once again history repeats itself a prominent black man being ruined by another black man. This is black on black crime at its highest. Rev.Wright for all the good he has done in his community. This betrayal is his defining moment. And elder black man causing a youn black man all these headaches. Very sad.
Obama 08 Still.

Hillary is insulting the mind and the intelligence of women by saying "it takes me too long to be prepared", by lying in silly things like snipers. She fits right into the stereotype that the general public assume about women.

I love to elect a woman president but not this one. I'll wait until I'll see a person like the Governor of Kansas or the senator of Missouri etc...

Greg Miller   April 30th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

Anderson – I hope you find something of substance to talk about instead of the Wright issue – it's really not a big deal and the media just makes it worse. The special you did on Iraq with David Gergen was excellent – more of this type of reporting would be applauded.

donna   April 30th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

Obama is the best thing we ever had happen to this country. I wish you all could see the wonderful and intelligent person he is and stop persecuting him.

We love you Obama

RuDee   April 30th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

To all you naysayers out there. I have attended my church for 21 years.
I sang in the children's choir, I volunteered for vacation bible.
My pastor baptized my brother. My father is buried there.
I have donated to this church for over 10 years.
I love and respect my church and my pastor.
I just learned that my pastor's family was responsible for providing the ships and profitted greatly from the delivery of slaves to this country via the middle passage. Do I sill love my pastor? yes Do I agree with what he did? No.

Don't think that you have all the answers. It could happen

Ann   April 30th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

Michelle Obama – First Lady – I think not.

First off lets go back to the proud of my country statement, I am 51 years old and have always been proud of my country regardless of good, bad, happy or sad.

And secondly this woman always looks like she has a chip on her shoulder about something. Sorry Mrs. Obama but my vote must go to Hillary Clinton.

Best of luck and a well fought race.

Michael   April 30th, 2008 5:42 pm ET

To Danielle April 30th, 2008 11:16 am ET:

How in the world can you say that a man accused of going to the wrong Christian church for 20 years is a muslim? Have you not been watching the news lately?

To those who say, "Obama is lying when he says that Reverend Wright is a different man today than he was when Obama attended his church.":

Please watch AC360 reruns from the last night. Many friends and associates of Wright have expressed to Roland how stunned they were at Wright's behavior at the Press Conference. Its not just Obama who says Wright is behaving differently, Wright's closest friends are saying the same thing. Let's be careful about calling Obama a hypocrite when there's strong evidence that he's actually telling the truth.

Juan   April 30th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

What happens when you have a Reverend who has sought God but, opposes to show the character of God (Who is Love) because of his own personal ambitions and peddling of the word of God?
Answer: A blind man leading the blind who cannot see the destiny of true unity of all mankind as God Himself would have it to be.
Rev. Wrights leadership abilities are obviously disqualified and retired in the eyes of God's sight on the fact that he is no longer able to make peace with all men and walk in unconditional love as God has commanded us all. What we have witness from Reverend Wright is not Godly lead but godly (selfishly) mislead. What Wright needs to do is Wrightly retire and stop opposing the course of peace and unity.

Cheryll   April 30th, 2008 5:43 pm ET

Do you know what really kills me in all of this is that no one has brought the tapes of his 20 years sermons so we can see if he sat through hate sermons, until you do that , MOVE ON!. Also I have been going to church all my life and my white preacher who I love sometimes says things that make you go ouch! But IF I heard this hate sermons Sunday after Sunday I would leave, but that is a big IF because none of us knows what he preached for 20 years. Oprah use to go there and she is the biggest lover of white people I know. There were whites that went there, has anyone sought them out or the Hispanics? No and why is that because then the lunch bucket, uneducated mentality people would have nothing to crucify this man with. Please surely there are more intelligent people out there then this crew of Clinton Supporters. Hear me now, be very careful about whose side you are on because there are some serious skeletons in Clintons closets that are about to come out very soon.

What kills me is that we say how could he sit there for 20 years and listen to that hate, well first you have to find out what kind of church goer was he. Second he could sit there just like the catholics sat there while their priest molested boys and girls. He sat that just like Mitt Romeny who comes from a religion that says being black is the curse of Cain and if you touch us you will be black and cursed. We won't get on Clinton's pastor.

How about this concept how about talking about the issues of how America is going to get back to being the super power it use to be because if we don't then we are going to continue to go down and China will be the next super power.

I won't go there with McCain. Except to say that everyone in Camp Clinton is acting like this man will be so tough to beat. Are you serious? The only way he can win is if Clinton keeps dividing the democrat party and crucifying Obama, it is not smart and it is not what being a strong woman is about. She is acting like the GOOD OLE BOYS!

Jean   April 30th, 2008 5:45 pm ET

Jeff,
I would rather have a president like Senator Obama ANYDAY, at least I know that he won't sell me out to the highest bidder!!

Christina   April 30th, 2008 5:46 pm ET

If you don't like Michelle Obama, you must be racist. There's nothing bad about her. It's unfortunate that they have to answer to Wright's comments but much of what he says is also the truth.

Carol   April 30th, 2008 5:47 pm ET

All of a sudden Michele Obama will be the greatest first lady. ..Highly intelligent in a graceful and dignified way, than Hilary.
My question is: Do you know Michele Obama? Who after all these years....is now proud to be an American!!! I guess she was ashamed to be an American when she was growing up. Take a good look people. When you want to talk about , DIGNITY, talk about Hilary Rodham Clinton and I could go on and on. Class, Gracious, and tough no matter what the situation . She may slip at times ,
but always get up and continue on her campaign trail .Wake up people before you all live to regret it. HILARY CLINTON WILL BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA..

Lisa   April 30th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

We all need to stop and think about what we are teaching our children. We have to live in this world together and get along.

I do believe to my heart that God created us all equal.

We all must leave here someday and be held accountable for our thoughts and words. We can't ever forget the past but we must forgive in order to move forward and see heaven someday if we belive. As a people let all this mess go and deal with the real issues.

When you love somebody whether family or not it is very difficult to dismiss that love. We should just think about our ugly thoughts, and words, remember we have children watching everything we do.

ML.Holmes   April 30th, 2008 5:49 pm ET

Senator and Michelle Obama should have known their past and close associates would be scrutized during this campaign. Both will say or do aything to gain the favor of the voters, even act outright stupid. And there are supporters who would vote for him regardless of what truths reveal.
He does not convey honesty, good judgment or necessary experience. He is an insult to the Democratic Party and American voters. He should go bqck to South Chicago and fulfill the previous promises he has made to voters in his district.

Sarah   April 30th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

GOOD GRIEF GUYS!!!!!!!!

No more Obama/Wright. Christiane Amanpour is in Sarejevo talking about the happenings over there, why not have her file a report on WORLD news! Please. I am so sick of Obama and his pastor. Let the story go.....use some integrity.

Darcy   April 30th, 2008 5:50 pm ET

I'm just looking forward to listening to a sane, intelligent and honest woman for a change....it will be a breath of fresh air.

John   April 30th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

Anderson why don't you stop asking stupid questions about things that people dont really care about? Why is every media station covering a story about a guy who wants to throw wrenches in the Obama campaign. Why dont you ask important question? i.e. about our economy, our justice system, opec and high gas prices, and if you really want to ask questions about Wright, why dont you investigate who gave him money to make those public apperences... my guess is the Clinton Campaign!

Debbie   April 30th, 2008 5:51 pm ET

I will never forgive the media for the totaly lopsided coverage initially given in this campaign. Obama was treated like a rock star and Hilliary was not given a grain of credit for anything. I just hope theres enough time for her to still win this thing. I do feel badIy for Obama now for it is very disturbing that one individual like Rev. Wright can cause so much distruction in a political campaign. I would prabably pick Obama over Hillary to spend a leizure weekend with -but when it comes to the White House I will take Hilliary hands down. I believe she will fight as hard in the white house as she has in this campaign .
She is strong, intelligent and determined to make the changes we need.

Lisa   April 30th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

Who knows, perhaps someday she'll have her own Bosnian-sniper story. Ya vote for the man/ woman ya gotta take the baggage that goes with him/her.

Mr. Williams   April 30th, 2008 5:54 pm ET

It's amazing how CNN is so PRO OBAMA....... You all have given him such great coverage and you continue to give him the opportunity to explain himself....... At least you can hold your heads high when he looses and say "WE TRIED TO HELP HIM WIN"....... The networks coverage of this primary has been so ONE sided...... I would like to see you stop giving Obama so much FREE press..... can we talk about something else....... I don't care what Michelle has to say regarding Rev Wright. I ask anyone, if we discovered that Mccain or Clinton were members of the KKK for 20 years but they then say they had no idea of the philosophy that was exposed by the leader what would we all say about that? The only story here for me is that i find Obama to lack honesty. I find it amazing how he only now attempts to disown Rev Wright..... Maybe it shows that Obama will actually say and do anything to get elected. When he was in Chicago running for Senate being a member of Rev Wright's church was a GOOD thing.... necessary even, to appease his base... Now he's in a General election and Rev Wright is a bad thing...... Will the real Barack Obama please stand up!!!!

Lisa   April 30th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

I belive Rev. Wright is a very good man and Obama Family let the mess go people.

Lorrie Wood   April 30th, 2008 5:56 pm ET

I'm appalled that Senator Obama only denounced Rev. Wright when it seemed to be hurtful to his campaign. Where was Obama's denouncement when Rev. Wright's comments were hurtful to millions of Americans a long while back? Even Hillary said Wright would not be her pastor straight up. This whole incident proves Obama will only denounce in his best interest not in Americans' best interest!

Sue   April 30th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

I agree with Dennis who posted the following:"Many ask the question as to why Obama stayed at Trinity all those years. The answer is simple. Wright preached christian based sermons 99.9% of the time that’s why. What we got from reverend Wright over the past weekend was the greatest hits of his thoughts over a 40 plus year span. If he was saying this stuff every Sunday don’t you think we would have more footage. Afterall the church’s service is broadcast on TV and the internet. Where’s all the footage of this so called raving lunatic? I bet after 9/11 there were a lot of sermons in tuned with Wright’s perspective in white and black churches. I wonder if any video surfaces from some of those."

Please, enough of this and get to real issues: economy, health care, gas prices. Obama has my vote. I'm sorry the media won't let the preacher issue go. If a candidate's church relationship is so important, then Hillary and McCain need to be scrutinized too.

Michelle, I hope you knock it out of the park tonight–but someone will surely find fault with what you have to say.

Pilar   April 30th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

I am in agreement with Lance..... and may I suggest that you ask MRs.Obama if she is for the first time "PROUD TO BE A CHRISTIAN – OR NOT"....It seems that these two (Mr&Mrs Obama) are making-it-up as they go along. At least with the other two (Mr & Mrs Clinton) we know where they have been and where they want to go; thank god Hilary is tougher that Rocky Balboa – or Rocky 1 thru 10.......

Beverly, Virginia   April 30th, 2008 6:00 pm ET

Great, she is truly a beautiful woman, Barack is a lucky man. You know it is pretty funny. Think about it, this is the ONLY thing the media can report negative on Barack Obama, they have nothing else. They are going to beat this into the ground because there is nothing else. Rev. Wright is just a pastor and not running for the White House. Nobody can control his mouth. Senator Obama will be a great leader with great judgment and will bring this country together. You folks are too funny, how can he be a racist when his mother was white and he was raised by his white grandparents. LOL He is our first bi-racial candidate who truly represents all of us. His family is a rainbow of colors and nationalties.

OBAMA 2008!

De'Borah Mozelle   April 30th, 2008 6:01 pm ET

Hope Obama hope, Anderson like most of us, we have just learned alot about politics. I don't learn THIS in school! Obama campaign makes me feel like I would have lived during the civil rights movements ( A CALL TO ACTION) and JFK times. So I hope that your CNN viewers will understand when I say: We need this change. We meaning eveyone in this country call the United States of America. Shaaaa!!!! You will hear this country crying out for H O P E. Hope Obama hope!!!!
I have not done eveything for 20 years. So my hat goes off to the Obama family. To you I pray, Keep looking good, feeling good and smelling good. And that is what we want in our President. So Anderson keep covering the issues of this campaign. We love it.

Big Deal, she's another left wing racist completely out of touch with Americans.

Shamara   April 30th, 2008 6:03 pm ET

Michelle, be careful the media can break you or make you. One wrong word and it will be spun every minute of the day. Please help your husband. I am voting for him.

Some of you ppl are so negative to Obama for something that he did not say out of his own mouth but, Helery say she was under sniper bullets which she lied but yet still you all are voting for her and she claimed that she miss spoke. The media is hurting Barack because they will not let this Mr. Wright thing rest. This man feels tha he is a Celeb.

Obama all the wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Juan   April 30th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

Chris, Boston, MA   April 30th, 2008 6:07 pm ET

CNN is biased against Obama and want him out of the race, till you guys accomplish that, you will not rest
As far as your interview with Michelle Obama, looking forward to seeing it. I'm a Christian and have been for over 30 years, been to white, black, asian churches, I have heard all of them say that the US stands condemned for its's past mistakes, just tune to TBN and you will get enough of it every single day. It really saddens me that you guys are not fair. Please right your wrong

stone   April 30th, 2008 6:12 pm ET

Neither Obama belongs in the white house. He does not have enough experience and she id "finally" proud to be an American.

Christy   April 30th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

I am voting for Hillary. She can turn the economy around just like her husband did. He did a GREAT job of it! I trust and feel familiar with the Clintons. She hasn't dragged the country into a destructive fight about gender because of some crazy pastor. Even though women are still beaten, raped and murdered EVERY day because of their gender. Women experience more violence than black men today, but we aren't alienating people because of it. Women didn't have equal rights, and only were able to vote after Black men. Yet Obama and his repulsive wife can't be proud of America unless HE wins the election.

Peymon Gorkani   April 30th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

It should be interesting.
When I saw Rev Wright speech on Sunday on CNN , I was fine with it.
But on Monday I saw a different person than on Sunday .
A man of God as he claims to be should stand above all things and teach forgiveness and be a mentor to others. Not to be revengeful .

What ever credit I was going to give him on Sunday , he Rev Wright lost it on Monday.
I was Obama supporter before and still support him, Nothing has changed.
Peymon Gorkani

Jan from Wood Dale IL   April 30th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

A few short weeks ago, Sen. Obama gave an eloquent speech on race. During that speech didn't Obama tell us we need to understand where Rev. Wright is coming from? Wasn't it Obama who said he could no more disown Rev. Wright than he could disown the black community?

Are we now to believe Rev. Wright is somebody different than the man Obama asked us to "understand"? Or since Obama has now "disowned" Rev. Wright, is he disowning the black community?

Senator Obama is sending out conflicting messages. I wonder if Michelle can justify these conflicting messages, since her husband has not.

Lance   April 30th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

It’s over! Both Clinton & Obama need just relax now for the rest of the primary season and the general election for they have both handed the election to John McSame. The really tragic thing is that both would have made an excellent President.

CH, New York   April 30th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

Nice points C.E. Adkins. You are right on the money with what you outlined. The issue here is that Obama changed his view of Rev Wright because he saw the impact it had on this campaign! Everyone was giving him advise on how to fix the problem. They were saying that in order to save his political career he needed to get MAD, DENOUNCE the Rev Wright!!! That is exact what he did! Not because he wanted to do it, because those that contributed to his campaign told him YOU BETTER DO IT! His wife is the same. They sat listening to the Rev 20 years and now say you NEVER, NEVER KNEW WHAT HE WAS ALL ABOUT. Ms Obama, " for the first time in my life I'm proud of America"! These things say it all!!!!!!

Raaj Parekh   April 30th, 2008 6:17 pm ET

It is time American realize that Obama has passed the Wright TEST with flying colors. He did not disown Wright in March just as most opportunists would have done in similar situations.

There is a lot of negativity, anger and frustration that we see among the people around us. You do-not abandon people when you hit the crisis.

REPLACE can not substitute for CHANGE. He will bring about the CHANGE that he talks about. He will be one of greatest STATEMANs that will define the high standards in public life and politics in the 21st century.

Laura   April 30th, 2008 6:20 pm ET

I can't wait for Mrs. Obama speak again. What she stands for comes right out her mouth. And the truth will prevail!!! Yes, MIchelle, keep talking, but this time tell the truth, not just what people want to hear.

Katye Williams   April 30th, 2008 6:26 pm ET

Michelle Obama is a "Strong Woman" and I have great admiration for both she and the next President of the United States, Sen. Barack Obama. Let all of the Jeremiah Wrights of the world be condem by the words of their own mouth and I pray the the "Peace of God" and the "Wisdom of God" continue to lead you as you enter the Oval Office.
I strongly believe that you will be the next president and despite all of the traps, schemes by Hillary & Bill Clinton, Jeremiah Wright, Sean Hannity and all of the Rush Limbaughs of the world, all of the Charlie Gibsons and the George Stephalopolis of the world,
Because "If God be for you, he is more that the World Against You!.
Go Barack and Michelle Obama, you have made us proud!......

Danielle you are an idiot and racist – get a life!!! You wish you were like Michelle Obama – stop HATING!!!!!

Yvonne   April 30th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

What the news media is engaging in is what Chief Justice Clarence Thomas once called a " High Tech Lynching"

It sickened me to my stomach to know that Barack was forced AGAIN to denounce his pastor... a good man who served his country and continues to make his community a better place. For those of us who are Belivers, we know if God has ordained Barack to be our next President, no devil in hell can stop it.

Oh, by the way.. why don't Catholics leave the Roman Catholic Church because of the number of priests who engage in Pedophilia?

Let those who have no sin cast the first stone.......

Amber   April 30th, 2008 6:31 pm ET

Wow, amazing that a lot of these bloggers rip CNN & 360 apart on here. If it's such a bad show with biased reporting why are you watching it? Why take time out of your day to blog?

I still haven't figured out what Barrack Obama believes in. He says he is a christian and distanced himself from Wright's comments. That still doesn't tell me who he is. Perhaps his wife could give better insight into who Obama really is and what he believes in.
If it's the same old "change, we're about change" spiel I'll be turning her off.
P.S. Perhaps 360 could get someone besides Roland Martin to be the Obama supporter on your panel for a while. Roland seems to be a spinner...every night his comments for Wright/Obama are always geared toward vote Obama twisting or disregarding facts as necessary.

Kimberly   April 30th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

While I don't agree with the whole rev.wright thing. We all know the media isn't going to let this die.Their stuck to to it like fly's to .....!
My whole question is this. Is this all anyone can come up with on Obama? THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST? You have got to be kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Heck thats nothing compared to the stuff Hillary and Bill have been involved in and yes even Macain. But yet we hear nothing of their real shady dealings. It makes wonder how honest and fair the media really is. The Clintons have been involved with alot more shady people than rev.wright. Heck Bill even had the The Rev. come to the White House to pray with him when he got caught cheating for the hundredth time. Keeping them honest uh? Who's keeping the media honest.

Karen, Leesburg VA   April 30th, 2008 6:41 pm ET

I hope when you interview Michelle Obama she has a chance to explain how personally painful it must have been for Barak to have to make such a dramatic break with his pastor. It is central to Christian teaching that we be “slow to anger,” to not pay back evil with evil, but to do our best to “live in peace with everyone.”

When Barak Obama delayed his response the until he had completely heard and seen what Rev. Wright said for himself, Obama was not only demonstrating a “Christian Character,” but sound leadership. Barak Obama may not have done everything right, but this was a still good illustration of “Grace under fire.” No imaginary snipers here!

We also need to realize that the fallout from the breakdown of the relationship between these two men is not limited to the political realm. It might be suggested that these men were baited into a high stakes game of “Let’s you and him fight.” Unfortunately, Rev. Wright took the bait hook, line, and sinker. Pastors are far from perfect, but if the relationship with yours falls apart, it wounds you deeply.

Further, have we become so unfamiliar with church-life in this country that we cannot appreciate how hurtful and damaging this quarrel could be to the faith community at Trinity United Church of Christ? Whole congregations have been ripped apart by far less public disagreements. Christians often remind each other that “our struggles are not with flesh and blood,” that we do have “an enemy” purposed to “lie and steal and kill and destroy” any good the Church might do.

If Rev.Wright truly loves his “flock,” the very least he will do is to keep his own counsel or better still work quietly within the framework established in the New Testament to be reconciled to his “brother.” If Peter and Paul could quarrel and make peace with each other, so can Barak and Jeremiah. However, Jeremiah Wright needs to give up the idea that Americans will see him as a good choice for leading anybody’s Presidential Prayer breakfast.

Charles, Greenville, SC   April 30th, 2008 6:50 pm ET

I wonder how far we are going to go with this? Maybe we should do background checks on every candidate's Pastor, Priest, Imam, or Rabi before they can meet the qualification to run for president? We certainly have a basis now that everyone is making such a big deal over Obama's former pastor.

theresa denton   April 30th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

I think this will be a good program, as long as the narcisstic media don't try to spin it or make it their agenda!! I think after this interview with Ms. Obama and the last press conference Sen. Obama gave, ENOUGH ALREADY, damn it is getting really really old. Folks are wanting to know about how Sen. Obama is going to help us with gas, economy, folks losing their jobs, the war, etc, again and again and again reinterated over and over again– we don't give a damn about Rev. Wright, what he said, says, did or does, they are 2 separate people. Sen. Obama just stated he was not the man he had come to know over 20 years, so we don't know anything 100% of what was preached and heard in that church and as I said, WE DON'T CARE!
Obama is a man of extreme brillance, intelligence and wisdom with respect, dignity, humility and humbleness, that is what I and others judge Sen. Obama on.

Pam (Lawrenceville, GA)   April 30th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

First I want to say, we can display all types of dissapprovements when it comes to our self. But when we are wrong we want everybody involved to forgive and forget. We keep forgetting one very important issue. Obama can't control other people, I repeat, Obama can't control other people mouth. What they say is completely there choice. We divide ourselfs with politics and all of this other bab behavior that we want to display. It's very hard for american people to unite and come together. That's why Bush was able to so much damaged. Because we (Americans) love to critize each other and find fault. Rev Wright is truly hard when it comes to racial remarks. So God will hold him responsible for that. Obama and his wife Michelle are human and what someone does now oppsed to what they do years agao. Is completely different. We can only be responsible for our selfs.

Jean   April 30th, 2008 6:51 pm ET

I dont know how can Balack share with R.Wright the same idea. This guy is totatly innocent and he deserve a break. He explained enough where he stand, and I dont how many explainations some people want from him. Lets Fox News keep playing this crips and move on to the imporatant issues.

Nicole   April 30th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

First of all, the Obamas are like fresh air to politics. Wish everyone could get theri math straight. He joined the church in 1992. Last time I counted 2008 -1992 = 16 years. He met Rev Wright 20 years ago but didn't immediately join the church so he wasn't sitting in the pews for 20 years. secondly pastors discuss many topics in the pew. the republicans are assuming that every Sunday Rev Wright said those few sound bites, and that every Sunday Obama was sitting there. Wake up, Rev Wright is the only ammunition the Republicans have and that means Obama must have a clean record!!

Alan H, Des Moines IA   April 30th, 2008 6:52 pm ET

The Obama's must distance themselves from Wright out of pure necessity. Barack Obama realizes that most Americans can't look deeply at themselves enough to realize that Wright's perspective is justified, and material for civilized discussion. However, Obama must play the game in order to win. And part of that game involves not offending Americans who can't understanding anything beyond the sound bite, but really do need help, and the kind of "healing" that he can bring to the US and abroad.

Larry Ikon (Atlanta)   April 30th, 2008 6:53 pm ET

This is senseless! Who has not sat through a sermon that did not have some element that made them uneasy? You don't leave the Church! You wait for another Sunday when the sermon is more of what you want to hear! What we are making Obama do to Rev. Wright is far worse than anything Rev. Wright may have said!!!!! Wake up people!

Conchita Vecchio   April 30th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

@ Christina:

"If you don’t like Michelle Obama, you must be racist. There’s nothing bad about her. It’s unfortunate that they have to answer to Wright’s comments but much of what he says is also the truth"

Let me put it to you this way...I'm a life long Democrat but if the race hypothetically came down to Obama and Condi Rice I'd vote for Rice in a heartbeat. She is far more cultured and knowledgeable than the Obamas combined, is a low-key, tireless worker and does not have the sense of entitlement the Obamas have. Though she's at a complete 180 from my political views, I've loads of respect for her because she has truly earned the position she is in today.

Lisa - Ft. Lauderdale   April 30th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

For the first time in her adult life, Michelle Obama is NOT really proud of Rev Wright (because he called Obama a "say anything" politician) – Obama says anyone who knows him knows that Obama is about – well, Wright knew Obama for almost 20 years – I guess he knows...

Bob   April 30th, 2008 6:57 pm ET

As I am reading through all these messages, I can't believe some people are saying that what Obama does in the past matter. It is like saying History doesn't matter. Obama's past actions reveal his character of who he is and what he believes in. Obama keep talking about Change and how he will transcend America. I have not heard any details on how he is going get that done. Initially, I gave Obama the benefit of the doubt that he could change America and he just needed some time to put a plan together. As his campaign progresses, I can see that there isn't any details behind it. At this point, I think that he is just a slick talker who would say anything that benefit him. Maybe Michelle Obama is right, she is now proud to be an American because her husband is running for president. Otherwise, she believes every word that Wright has preach in the past.

Ruby Coria, LA., CA.   April 30th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

360* it looks like it's already getting heated up on the blogs.. can't wait to see and hear what Ms. Obama wants us to see and hear..AC. see you and Erica* tonight.

Cheryl R.   April 30th, 2008 7:00 pm ET

Sorry, the Barack Obama advisors didn't see this coming and if Barack was in office, his judgement is evident, from the decisions he made "bitter...clinging" comments, took his name off of the ballot in Michigan, side with Rev Wright knowing full well he was volatile personality. Does it take someone to tell him to be unhappy. The world is looking at this candidate and I see question marks.

Gina   April 30th, 2008 7:01 pm ET

TESAP – She's talking about Rev. Wright b/c the Obama campaign doesn't want her to talk about anything else. She doesn't exactly have a great record on interaction with the public.

Lisa - Ft. Lauderdale   April 30th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

All of CNN's kings horses and all the king's cheerleading men couldn't put Obama back together again....

Barbara Smith   April 30th, 2008 7:03 pm ET

The media is putting too much on this. I keep hearing: " Obama has been a member of Wright's church for 20 years, I can't see how he didn't know his views." That is absurd!

First of all Church and politics are not suppose to mix. I've been a member of my church for 30 years and I do not know the political views of my Pastor. I've babysatt his grandchildren, my family vacationed with he and his family. I've housesat while he has been on vacation & we've had dinner together at each other's homes. My entire family was baptized, married, or eulogized by my Pastor. I was his secretary for many years and never has our political point of view been a topic.

Obama should not be held accountable for what Wright has said. He has distanced himself from Wright and that should be the end of it.

"… for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country..."
Michelle Obama: 2/18/08

Haven't we heard enough from this woman?

Selina   April 30th, 2008 7:05 pm ET

Michelle Obama is fabulous-she will do great tonight on the show!!! Judge the Obama's on their values NOT on their associations!!!! Barack Obama for U.S. President!!!

Lisa   April 30th, 2008 7:06 pm ET

Will you guys PLEASE tell me what is so admirable and great about Michelle Obama? I read her much-talked about thesis (not real well written, but complaining about her Ivy League education), watched her walk all over her tongue with her comments, and have not seen any warmth come out of her. Please tell me what "great" things she has done and how you reach the conclusion that she will be a great first lady...I really want to know.

LindaJ   April 30th, 2008 7:10 pm ET

"The thing that troubles me the most is that Rev. Wright may be “right” when he says that Obama is a “politician”. "

After months of Obama's performance in this campaign there can be little doubt that Rev. Wright nailed it with that one.

Cynthia   April 30th, 2008 7:11 pm ET

The more the media and bloggers spew negativity – the more I like the Obama's. I truly believe that Senator Obama wants to bring this country together and do good works for it. When the Lord is for you the world can't do you no harm. God Bless America

Dell   April 30th, 2008 7:14 pm ET

Wow, it's amazing how racist we are in this country. It is awful. Hillary is no lady, but I could never hate her b/c she is white. I am pretty saddened to be an American. The racisim is seething like venom from Rev Wright to folk like Danielle. So, so sad. Let's get back to the issues. We still have to rear our kids in this place called America.

Jay   April 30th, 2008 7:16 pm ET

A church is a place to get together for spiritual peace. However if this church has a pastor like Wright – it should not be blamed on Obama. With a pastor who is babbling ing for a few minutes is definitely entertaining and does not warrant to change life-styles or churches. We all understand that Obama is trying to make a name for himself. But lets be honest – who isn’t – is Hillary really any different??? Lets not let a silly incident cover Hillary’s past ( and present baggage – ties with corporations, foreign dignitaries etc). Lets focus on the main issues the economy is facing and select the best candidate to bring about “CHANGE”.

Go Obama….all the way!!!

Barbara Smith   April 30th, 2008 7:17 pm ET

Barack Obama need to stay focused and not get caught up in all the distractions.

Obama has made his views very clear and I still support him. Wright's views are irrelevant and the public's support should not be swayed by Wright's views.

Obama's views on important issues like war, economy, education and etc. has not changed.

Obama had the lead in popular and superdlegate votes because of his views; therefore, he should still have the lead in them.

Michelle is suppose to support her husband. Keep up the good work Michelle and Barrack!

Giselle, Atlanta   April 30th, 2008 7:17 pm ET

I commiserate with Michelle and Barack. They are sophisticated, ivy league educated individuals who wanted to be productive people of faith and role models within the black community, so they chose to become members of the most socially progressive church in the community.

I don't care how many degrees JW has or how many books he's written, there is a palpable intellectual gap between the Obamas and their pastor. But rather than thinking themselves "above" this pastor whose church was doing great things in the community, they wanted to remain engaged and probably thought that they could help educate him about socioeconomic and political issues as he educated them about spiritual matters. Unfortunately, the most intractable ignorance is that which is ignorant of itself

So, JW probably might have espoused some of his misguided views from time to time during their relationship and the Obama's probably tried to re-educate him. He wouldn't challenge them too much because they were valued parishoners and the "ivy league educated" parties in the equation; but he secretly held on to his views and when he gets upset out they come.

Wright talks about healing; but he counterproductively revels in fingerpointing and paranoid presumptions. Obama talks about healing and he very intelligently knows that that requires moving forward, not looking back. Being positive and hopeful, not negative and accusatory. I am quite sure that this has been his soft spoken dialogue with his former pastor if these issues ever came up between the two of them. Wright didn't get it. He thinks that he is omniscient.

This situation reminds me of a short story that I read in Freshman Lit. The protagonist's belief was that...In the Country of the Blind, the One -eyed Man is King...what he discovered was that the blind people that he stumbled upon were functioning so well in their blindness that they decided that his comments about vision were delusional and probably a result of the soft round objects on his face...his eyes. They wanted to pluck out the offensive objects. He ran away, of course.

Linda   April 30th, 2008 7:21 pm ET

For those of you seeking policy-related answers from Michelle Obama, a friendly reminder she is NOT the presidential candidate (her husband is). We should compliment Mrs. Obama's knowledge base and compassion as it stands. You people are used to Hillary Clinton who competed with her husband's presidency!

I surely cannot be expect to address any questions about my husband's profession (physics).

Larry   April 30th, 2008 7:23 pm ET

Why don't you Canadians leave our elections alone; we don't go around telling you who to vote for your country.

Ann   April 30th, 2008 7:26 pm ET

Michelle Obama is without doubt a dignified and able woman. A real role model for women everywhere. I would be thrilled to see her as the first lady. However, remember the country is voting for a President in November and not voting for the dependant's spouse.

Steven   April 30th, 2008 7:28 pm ET

O.K. Obama ( A Nobody), arrives in Chicago about twenty years ago. He is taken in by Rev. Wright and supported by his congregation to the point he is elected a Senator. Obama is also guided and uses Rev. Wright political contacts such as Louis Farrakan, Trinity Church, and Chicago's Black community to rise to a position where he is seen as a viable candidate for President. Now he feels that he's got everything sewn up, he feels that he is superior to these folks and no longer need them. He says, apparently I never knew you and apparently you never knew me. So you tell me. Who should be denouncing who??

I don't understand how people can say " They still don't know Obama or what he believes in" They must have laptops or computers since they are leaving comments on a web page. Get with the game people it's called google.

Christine   April 30th, 2008 7:37 pm ET

Why are you wasting time on this woman? Really most people don't care what she has to say anymore. She really should leave America. You know she has never been proud of America.

I feel she and her husband knew who and what Rev. Wright is and always was. They probably agreed with it UNTIL it all became public.

So now maybe they can go away and keep their promise not to seek the presidental nomination again. Please remind her of that.

Ransom   April 30th, 2008 7:41 pm ET

This whole election process is making me sick. This nation desperately needs to come together and put aside all the bitter (yes bitter) divisive retoric (liberal conservative black white ad naseum). Obama provided this nation with a real chance to do just that. He's right this process starts with us and can't happen without us. Apparantly the biotry on all sides just won't let it happen. It's sad but it looks like we aren't ready.

Instead many of you want to send a person who has no interest whatsoever in the citizens of this country and would say anything do anything to be president.. It's no wonder this country is in the shape it is.

Sarah Erk   April 30th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

We've been getting to know Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton quite a bit with this lengthy primary for the democrats. I'd appreciate more coverage on John McCain. There is a lot I don't know about him since he's sort of in the background right now. It's frustrating to want to know what's going on with his campaign, and to only get a short snippet at the end of the broadcast. This seems to be the case with most of the main stream media, not just CNN.

Jacqueline   April 30th, 2008 7:44 pm ET

By the way,

The Clintons have A LOT MORE skeletons in theirs closets (I could name a handful) that you at CNN and rest of the Media is not touching. Why is that? why aren't you going after them with such ferocity? why are you so unbalanced? What say you?

Lesage   April 30th, 2008 7:45 pm ET

Obama speaks from his heart and know for sure what he wants to do with our country, for all of you who says you would rather vote for Mccain instead of Obama, what your basicaly saying is you would rather have Bush in power for another four years, while everythng is more expensive, and we losing all of our jobs, so we should really think before saying these kind of comments.

robby f.   April 30th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

I'm trying to figure out just what it is that Obama is about myself. I hear how it is time for a change, but a change for what. I'm sick of hearing about the war and how he was against it from the beginning. I'm still waiting for one of these candidates (any of the three) to step up to the plate and talk about what they plan on doing for our country. We seem to be able to talk about foreign policy and how to make things better but yet to talk about doing something to help americans be able to make ends meet, like pull up to the gas pump and actually be able to fill the whole tank up or go to the grocery store and buy enough groceries for a whole week. I understand health insurance is a big need , but even if it was dirt cheap, a lot of americans couldn't afford still. I hope someone, whether it be McCain or one of the democrats would explain to the american people what they plan on doing to help fight the rising cost to live in this country. Obama is right it is time for a change, I'm just not sure if any of the three are the one to make that change.

William   April 30th, 2008 7:46 pm ET

I can see how Obama didn't know this side of Wright. It was not until Obama became a true force did Wright become crazy. His earlier sermons were not that bizarre if taken in context

Goddam America only meant that God would hold America accountable. He even half-apologized in that sermon.

America and AIDS is looney, but for his generation I can see him thinking it's possible.

Farakkan is a nut, but Wright claimed Farrakan hadn't said anything really crazy in 20 years. I disagree, plus that wouldn't excuse those things.

Wright is an egotisical nut that needed to be under the bus. Now he is, and if Wright had emerged in this way after Obama's Philly speech, it would have happened sooner.

Amber   April 30th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

My family and I are more involved with politics than ever before. I am a republican female from Georgia , The Bible Belt" . After meeting Barack Obama I have changed my views and have decided to vote for Barack even after his controversy with Rev. Wright. I believe in his respect for our country and his decision to run for president because he wants change in America. I can understand why an African-American woman might say, "This is the first time I've been proud of America. " Who are we to know what her experiences have been as a black woman.? I am not black therfore I have no idea what it's like to be treated with discrimination. Let's face the facts, our country was built by African Americans providing 100 + years of free labor only to surcome to Jim Crow laws and segregation. It's time for America to respect the views of others and realize that different does not mean deficient.

Mary   April 30th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

We have not been exposed much to Michelle OBama during this campaign, and she could potentially be our next 1st lady. Anderson, will you please ask her some questions about her life, her ideologies, her strengths. She is a very accomplished educated woman. Anderson, I hope you can ask her more than just questions about this ongoing drama with Rev Wright. Looking forward to the show!

JC   April 30th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

It's so apparent that Barack Obama is no leader at all but rather a follower; he followed Rev. Wright for twenty years and most likely followed his wife to Rev. Wright; now his wife has to come to his defense; this guy writes memoirs without having done anything of note; then references said books in his speeches; Barack looked so weak and meek when he tried to address the Rev. Wright issue; now, he has to have his wife do damage control and stand up for him; he talks about bringing people together yet aligns with a separatist church; he wants blacks to have a voice but is crushed by the voice of a black; if he wants change, he and Michelle should look within.

Katrina   April 30th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

I find it hard to believe that after 20 + years Obama is just now hearing what his pastor really thinks. Either he never went to church or he sat in the back row and slept. If Obama is like a son to the Rev, then Obama knew, he knew the thoughts of his pastor. If this is not a big deal to people then people really are spellbound. Obama spent 20 + years at the feet of this pastor. His judgement should be called into question.

Scott   April 30th, 2008 7:57 pm ET

A Master Strategic Move?
If so, brilliant. The Wright issue was going to haunt Obama throughout the campaign. What better way to close it out than to have Wright speak out even further allowing Obama to fully distance himself and in effect denounce Wright. He really couldn’t do it with the sound bites prior. Now he can and did. Maybe Wright is a team player. Gets national coverage and Obama gets an out. Both win. Well maybe, I see initial polls today show Clinton closing the gap.

Dori in AZ   April 30th, 2008 8:00 pm ET

Yet to meet the perfect person, much less the perfect couple or perfect family or perfect group of any kind. Lot of PRETENDERS out there, and those individuals & groups protest vehemently. But, scratch their surfaces & all kinds of things are waiting to emerge. Former NY Gov. Spitzer is a glaring example!

Generally "safe" to lash out because most people aren't required to unveil their own selves, family, friends, colleagues, religious or other affiliations, & acquaintances circles to public scrutiny.

If they did, they'd plunge into deep wells of their own & others' secrets, unknowns & barely knowns, and there'd be a multitude of things that would NEVER be known. Just the way life is. Many wouldn't recover from the shocks, shames, or embarrassments when the truth finds a voice.

I believe in Barack Obama & I will vote for him. Rev. Wright is a non-issue to me. Prefer to focus on the truly serious & time sensitive issues that are critical to our well-being & survival. Like our nation's almost overwhelming magnitude of problems. And, our dying planet.

WHY DID YOU STAY THERE 20 YEARS?
WE CAN'T POSSIBLY BELEIVE YOU NEVER HEARD HIM SAY THESE REMARKS-EVER? GIVE ME A BREAK!

zz   April 30th, 2008 8:12 pm ET

This issue is not about Rev. Wright.

This issue is about "give me a reason, any reason ,to vote against Obama".

Hillary is betting her campaign on the fact that when "the rubber mets the road", working class whites (blue collar) won't really vote for a black president.

Instead of appealing to the best of human nature she hopes for the worst because it is the only chance she has of getting elected.

Does anyone want to be held responsible for the words of others in which they have no control?

Why did he not leave that church?

Obama was a man without a culture. He is genotypically mixed but phenotypically black. He was raised in a white cultural environment.
Because of his appearance he had to choose the black culture although he knew nothing about it. I believe that this church was his learning instrument and source of identity and acceptance. It would have been hard for him to leave.

He probably heard some of these inflammatory sermons. Some of Rev. Wrights comments, although inflammatory, were true. His other comments were probably dismissed as rantings of a old man who has lived through some hard times.

Obama seeks to inspire people to rise above racial and other differences and embrace a universal commonality. After growing up trapped between two races himself, I believe, he feels this is the only way this country can move forward.

Helen   April 30th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

I hope that you ask her about issues of today. Rev. Wright is not running for office. I hope CNN and the other major stations stop running him down. Don't you have other concerns like people suffering, no jobs and the lies told to the American people.
That same old politics. All old politicians (over 50) need to retire from office.

Craig Burgener   April 30th, 2008 8:16 pm ET

You are giving Michelle Obama a platform so I want to hear real
hard questions! Like what did she mean when she said that this is the first time in her life she's proud to be an American?
Is this what she learned from Rev Wright, Please explaine what you
really mean by that comment! Of course you in the media are afraid to ask hard question, you really don't do your jobs and your Obama bias
comes out! Thanks Craig B. AZ

Kesha   April 30th, 2008 8:18 pm ET

Can someone please explain to me why no one is mentioning that Rev Wright is retired from his church? Which says to me not only does Obama disagree with what he said but his congregation does too. Also why has the media out played the nonsense of Rev Wright and attached it to Obama? What happen to the all the media coverage on why Clinton told thoses lies and how her husband called her old and out of touch?

michael   April 30th, 2008 8:23 pm ET

Thanks Anderson for having Michelle Obama on. I love everything about the Obama's and everything they stand for. I've never been this excited about a presidential race. I look forward to seeing the Obama's in the white house next year!

Mauro from Austin TX   April 30th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Give Me a Break....

I have attended church and have always known who my pastor is and what he preaches and stands for. To keep giving the public an excuse that Obama did not hear Wrights rhetoric or sermons where he talks about hate is a BIG FAT LIE!!!! Especially since he attended that church for 20 years. Again I'll say that for you people, 20 years...and yet he claims he never heard Wrights hateful sermons? Who is really falling for this? Not me.

In my church I new what my pastor stood for. If I missed a sermon I would hear about it via church tapes, videos or comments from other church goers. If my pastor felt strong about a certain subject I would know about it. I would not have to attend church every Sunday to know what my pastor stood for spiritually or what his ideology was. I'm sure after a fiery sermon members would be talking about that sermon for for weeks if not months. I'm sure Obama came across someone who had heard those sermons of Wright and shared them with him. Fiery sermons do have a tendency of being talked about and discussed in the congregation so I'm sure Obama heard them one way or another. You can't tell me in all those 20 years you never heard or new what your pastor stood for.

This is a pastor who only brings division in the name of "GOD" and for Obama to say that Wright was not his personal guru or mentor, again give me a break. Did not Wright marry him, baptize his children? I thought that before marrying someone usually people go for counseling, they receive spiritual guidance from their pastor and especially for Obama to have considered Wright as a member of his own family and yet we are given the excuse that he, Obama, did not know his pastor. Are people really buying this? Again I repeat "20 years".

Rita California   April 30th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

I don't trust this woman. When Obama first entered the arena I didn't notice him too much and then I heard Michelle speak and watched her in the crowd. A kind of arrogance since she had a Kennedy on her arm.

I said to my friend, "something is not right here, I can feel it." Then her comments about not being proud of Americans, then Rev Wright and all this stuff..... now she's smiling yes, because Frist Lady is a title no girl would want to miss... but her husband is just too much of a pup to play with the big dogs. I want to wear Channel too, but first I have to work my way up.

Obama is moving too fast... I don't even hire people for my company with less than 5 years experience in an important position.

JONATHEN   April 30th, 2008 8:27 pm ET

With regards to “Rev Wrights” issue , If Obama should be accused of “guilt by association” what about Senator Clinton – She has been married to Clinton for some many years , and if she was surprised to learn about her husband’s (who had lied and was nearly impeached)weakness and character , how is going to be “good” “wise” President of the greatest nation in the world.

Sally Porterfield   April 30th, 2008 8:28 pm ET

As a white woman who spent about 26 years with blacks, due to marrying a black man and being rejected by whites I think I can say the following: Louis Farakan and Jeremiah Wright are hate preaching people. They are, as Senator Obama has stated, caught up in an earlier time and not looking at the progress that is being made for black people in this country. I know both the white and black cultures well. I heard Jeremiah Wright state, "Louis Farakan didn't put me in chains, slavery or make me this color." Rev. Wright the only chains and slavery you have been in are in your mind and I take it you don't like your white skin color and features. How could you be so intelligent and without any wisdom whatsoever? If you were a wise man you would have kept your mouth shut and helped Senator Obama become the first black president. All you can think about is slavery and chains. You hate yourself and it shows Rev. Wright, it shows. I so dislike you for hurting Senator Obama's chances of becoming the first black president. Senator Obama was raised by his white mother and white grandparents. If anyone can claim discrimination it would be him because I know what he has faced. I have a daughter who is 28 years old. We have been through a lot of hard times with prejudiced people both black and white. Rev. Wright as the good Lord said, "There are none so blind as those who cannot see." I will pray for you and Mr. Farakan. And to the media: quit putting this arrogant, unwise, egomaniac on the air!!!!!!!!!!!!

linda in mississippi   April 30th, 2008 8:29 pm ET

It is unfortunate that the neither the Obama's nor Rev. Wright understood the nature of the 'beast' with whom they were dealing. The media has played this story daily in order to make sure that Sen Obama received continued negative publicity. The media would have continued to loop the same comments from Rev Wright, (even though the full context of the speeches indicates that there was more and the selective 'soundbytes' were not the thesis of the speeches), whether or not he tried to defend himself – which is what he did by going on PBS. That story was fuel for fodder, meant to be Sen Obama's undoing and the media was/is not about to let the story die. Those of us who have half a brain understand exactly what is happening here; as for the others of us who do not – God Help Us – if the American people are no smarter than this!

Pam from Canada   April 30th, 2008 8:32 pm ET

Dear Anderson,

I am so sorry for the terrible e-mails that people send you and I hope that you read mine. I feel you are a fair and honest journalist and you have my respect for telling the facts.

I do feel that Barack and Michelle have been persecuted for attending a church and finding out that their pastor is not the man they knew, my sympathy to them. I feel that the media has been a vulture at looking at Barack and Michelle under a microscope but unfortunately that is what happens when you are running for president. I wish them all the luck in their campaign and I know that the world is watching and they are concerned that Barack will not be elected as President. I guess we feel that he is the most honest of all the candidates. America needs to improve their relationships with the other country's, including Canada.

Please give Michelle my best and that I pray for her and her husband and their children everyday.

This is TRULY a Sad Day for American Politics... Rev. Wright Spoke some Truth and I overstand why Obama has to disagree. Obama is a Politician... Rev. Wright is a Truth Pastor... (In the words of The Reverend) Obama and Rev. Wright are: "Different but not Deficient" from one another...LOL

Sherri   April 30th, 2008 8:40 pm ET

It seems a little odd to me that Mrs. McCain is not doing sound bites about the issues facing the country. I get a really strong sense from Mrs. Obama that she is the real candidate in the family- which is fine- just get it out there and don't try and present it in a way so as to not appear to be running for president. I think this whole situation with Rev. Wright is disturbing, divisive and non productive. Yet again- the focus of the really key issues facing our country have been upstaged by theatrics. People are selling heirlooms and nearly everything else they own just to buy gas and food. The conditions are ripe for a repeat of the riots of 1968 and no one really wants to see that happen again. While I'm sure Mrs. Obama has an opinion on the Rev. Wright debacle, it would be refreshing to have her address other topics. Rev. Wrights' agenda is frightening and definitely causing the various entities he has lambasted on the defensive. His statement on the methodology of learning between the races is- ludicrous. This is not the way to build bonds and bridges.

Pat Watson   April 30th, 2008 8:44 pm ET

There are people in our Country really hurting and yet the focus is on petty issues. The need for good sound leadership is here and now. The next President of the United States will have to do a great deal of damage control. I support Obama and I have respect for the Clinton's. I happen to think that Obama really can speak reality to the masses of people that are looking for HOPE and along with that some Solutions to Healing our Country both emotionally and economically.

All this bitterness going on. we need to come together as a people. Stop trying to assasinate senator obama character. Is this what america about. if so we are no better than any communist country. one more thing rev wright was just preaching the everyday struggles of a black man. but white america doesnt want to hear that, thats why the media are doing what they are doing to obama. anderson cooper I watch the show all the time, keep up the good work.

People please get your information straight before you call someone a liar. It is obvious that alot of people are scared of change because they don't know what to expect. It has been proven that people will stay in a bad situation out of fear of what the change may be. I hope America can see through the fear and vote for a change in our country. If not I have alot of fear about what will be next. Another 4 years of business as usual and we may not have a country left to love.

I agree with TESAP..seriously, all CNN cares about is the drama these days. If a Pastor or spiritual leader determines who we are than Catholics better watch out. There's been years of Child Molestation within the Church, and folks still go to Mass. So please give us a break on the Jeramiah Wright thing. Your an information station, so please give us information. You've turned into a side show. Give the American people a break. We're a lot smarter than you think we are. We know smoke screens when we see them. Get on with the issues of the Country. You seem to be dividing the Country every day. Get back on Track...

Annie Kate   April 30th, 2008 8:48 pm ET

I'm really tired of the Reverend Wright story and I don't see how this adds constructively to the conversation anyway. Are you going to interview Cindy McCain or Bill Clinton for equal time? Seems like a lot of free tv exposure for Obama and his campaign to have his main surrogate on.

What about the 700 Club, or any other Evangelical congregation with a pastor that fell from grace. Are the judgment of theses hundreds of thousands of people also in question?

So what values will Obama embark on now? He apparently abandoned the last 20years of faith, and for his family too I assume. How can the White House be run this way? Isn't Obama just saying this to us to sound good, but behind our backs, like NAFTA, he's saying 'oh don't worry, I don't mean it'...hmmm

Ijane   April 30th, 2008 9:01 pm ET

What can Michelle Obama possibly have to say about Wright? Have you read her Princeton thesis paper? Michelle and Wright are two separatists in a pod! Good grief!

mark   April 30th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

I thought that the Obama headquarters and Mr. Obama himself putting everyone down......It seems to me that he has recieved hundred of millions of dollars and he thinks that no one matters ..... he has his own sceldule and nothing else matters. He is the one raising the race card and everyone is for that???? What is wrong with this picture.IS AMERICA THAT STUPID?

Sue R   April 30th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I'd like to know if Michelle Obama was proud of her husband when he became a senator. Was she not proud of the people in Illinois when they elected him?

How could she have said this was the first time she was proud of Americans...in this run for the Presidency?

I would not vote for him, and my first reason would be he's married to her. I don't want HER in the White House.

Gioachino Andreozzi   April 30th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

I think about Minister Wright's comment on damning America and I think back to Michelle Obama's comment about being proud to be an American for the first time and I wonder if minister J. Wright's sermons are responslble for her thinking that way.

Mary   April 30th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Are we now going to spend the remainder of this election wondering what Obama will do if Rev, Wright speaks out again? Oh, yes isn't it wonderful that Obama looked human yesterday when he dismissed Rev. Wright! Must Obama also have to produce his DNA map to be accorded the rank of being human? Should he cry like Hillary? What's wrong with all of you?

Al, Windsor, Ontario   April 30th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

It was nice to see an unbiased AC360, 45 minute Obama cheerleading interviews. Way to go Anderson, another example of CNN bias. You can be proud.

gerry   April 30th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Why does CNN run in two different 360 shows the same portrait of Mrs. Obama ? Because you are so Obama-biased. You could have used that time to report on Senator Clinton. That would have made your show somewhat more balanced !

Denise   April 30th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Personally I think the Michelle has handled this situation in a very dignified way. She would make a excellant 1st Lady....someone poised, intellegent, strong, who puts her family above the typical Washington game of politics. She is always uplifting to her spouse and not someone who wants to control and be more well known and established than her husband. A strong and dedicated woman, wife and mother is what our country needs to uplift and inspire our country.... not someone controlling and bickering over who was the best president! Looking back at the greatest 1st Ladies...they always protected their familes not feed them to the political wolves, or attempt to over shadow the good their husbands did. Each incredible 1st Lady (Jackie O. and Eleanor Roosevelt) inspired our nation by their presence, loyality, kindness and sense of family value which gained them the respect and admiration of our nation. Go Obama Go!

mlw53   April 30th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Michelle & Barack Obama made a big mistake staying with Rev Wright 20yrs ago. I don't believe any of this hype about Barack distantsing himself from Wright. This is just POLITICS, he had to do something. JUST WORDS JUST WORDS. Brarack Obama will NOT win the democratic nomination. Its not just the Wright issue, he is not ready. Come back in 4 or 8 yrs. Then we will see if he distant himself from Wright & maybe he will be ready by then. He doesn't have the fight in him like Hilliary. We need someone strong & someone with more experience in the White House.

Bonnie   April 30th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Interview was excellent. What a gracious, poised lady. Hillary could take a few lessons from Michelle on class! Anyone who cannot yet see the honesty and commitment of the Obamas needs to read Senator Obama's books.

Kasha   April 30th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

The American people will all be able to move beyond the Rev Wright issue IF the American media stop making a spectacle of themselves by trying to make it news.

You had a wonderful opportunity to really speak with Michelle Obama, who is an amazingly intelligent and insightful woman, about the issues that matter to all Americanss, but you just could not help yourselves and had to try to dig for anything you could on Rev Wright and the very PERSONAL struggle the Obama family has had to endure.

Thankfully Michelle did a wondeful job at shutting you down on your useless questions.

Move on – America is ready to, but the media just sees dollars and ratings and you think you have to shove this in America's face every minute.

Doubt you will publish this one.

jana brown   April 30th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Hi everyone, I do believe that this "Rev. Wright thing" is relevant to the campaign. Obama is a candidate with very little experience, and wants us to vote for him based on his judgment. I am, now, very uneasy about his judgment. I feel that my intelligence is insulted by asking me to believe that he sat in that church for 20 years, and didn't know about the doctrines of the preacher. Michelle says that they just want to put this behind them. The problem is that a lot of us Democrats would like to vote for Obama, if he is the Democratic nominee. I won't be able to until I hear, from Obama, a better explanation than "I didn't hear these comments".

Anne   April 30th, 2008 11:07 pm ET

Yup ... another wasted moment with two extra-ordinary women! Malveaux had both Michelle Obama and Caroline Kennedy in the same room with an amazing opportunity for a really really profound interview! She blew it! It was barely interesting with misplaced emphasis on a Pastor who is not running for office. As Mrs. Obama so nicely requested ... Move Forward!!!! And please have a back-up of intelligent questions when the dumb ones are not working!

Sol. H.   April 30th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

Ebknows, it was Bubba Clinton who passed NAFTA, not Obama. Think about it!

DeeDee   April 30th, 2008 11:19 pm ET

I am watching Campbell Brown tonight. And, I am surprised by her attitude. Every time she had to speak about Hilliary Clinton, her voice reflects a negative tone.
RE: Michelle Obama. My question is: how could she subject herself and her children to 20 years of listening to Wright's Sermons that obviously had not only hatred in them, but were unpatriotic to AMERICA. I could never vote for Obama, who was also groomed in this environment.
Wright said that Obama had to speak politically or he would not be elected. And that what he spoke was not what he believed.
MICHELLE, could not convince me that she loves this country for its historic relevance.
Susannze was a great interviewer....but Michelle body language spoke of her own defensiveness and her evasiveness to answering the questions. And Caroline Kennedy adds nothing.

Keith in Pennsylvania   April 30th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

Many people on this blog appear to have a lot of contempt for Obama and its very disapointing. If they had found themselves in simular situations, they would expect others to be totally understanding. Some of what I consider to be their unwarranted anger towards Obama is just plain pathetic. If you were to be judged by a person you only had an association with as a member of a large congregation, and people began to blame you for the actions of others.... This like being a member of a Catholic church, having the priest found to be a pedofile and the media running stories saying that all the members of the congregation are pedofiles and other horrible things. I think part of the dispise some bloggers have towards Obama is that deep down they like him but are afraid to admitt it. After all, Barak and Michelle have shown themselves to be people of class and character.

Dusty   April 30th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

I wish they would ask policy issues. Lets talk about issues that are important and matter to the people of the United State.
What Rev. Wright says has nothing to do with the integrity of Michelle or Barack.
I hate the media and how they play these issues up.

I think Rev. Wright is on the payroll of the Clinton campaign. Ha

At this point Clinton is only trying to sabotage Obama so McCain wins and she can run for the Democratic Nomination sooner.

chris   April 30th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

Come on, get over it, move on.
Rev. Wright is done, there are other issues, bigger issues by far.
For instance, there were more Iraqi civilians and American soldiers killed during April than during any other month since August and September respectively!
Isn't that important?
How about gas prices, jobs, consumer confidence, health care, torture etc. etc. etc.
Come on, be responsible, cut it out.

Sheree   April 30th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

She didnt change my view on her husband. If Obama wins, I'm voting for McCain

Dellareesa   April 30th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

Do you leave the church because the minister says things you disagree with? WHO ARE YOU THERE TO WORSHIP? THE MINISTER OR GOD? For those of you who would leave, would you move your membership each time you disagree with the minister? Again, who are you following? As my grandma use to say, "Preachers come and go, I was here when they came, and I'll be here when they leave."

Michelle Obama spoke very well tonight. I also listened to Hillary's answers to O'Reilly's questions and I was disappointed. Her answers were the answers you give to get votes. Hillary can do better.

Americans we need change! We continue to fall into the same old same old and we will get the same old same old.

ad   April 30th, 2008 11:29 pm ET

I can't help thinking of the saying "Beware a sheep in wolves clothing" when I see Obama. He is not what he appears. He's very guarded with his words and when prompted at the air strip about Wright, he never once, looked directly into the camera. This man is not spontaneous, he's very deliberate so it seems odd that after a 20 year relationship with Wright, he would not know how the man really thinks. He even carries some of the arrogance displayed by Wright (Remember his speech about brushing the comments off his shoulder?) That was like a page out what we saw when Wright was bouncing around on stage acting a fool. I resent that fact that now just less than one week before two important and defining primaries, Barack and Michelle are getting all this free air time. I've yet to see any free press time of this length given to the Clinton.

Further, if this was not a racially motivated election before, it certainly is one now.

Latonya from NC   April 30th, 2008 11:29 pm ET

Michelle is eloquent and strong. As an African American I am proud of this couple. Our African American youth need role models like this. They are family oriented and they are smart. I am proud that our youth will have examples such as this, examples that say you can get far in life because of your brains and your convictions and not all BLACK MEN are in jail. BRAVO, OBAMAS.

blacknwhite   April 30th, 2008 11:30 pm ET

Pastors are men, they are not without sin. Your husbands have inappropiate conversations, look at websites they should not be on and check out women and you claim to know your pastors when you don't even know what your own husbands and children are doing. Give me a break. So what if he knew that his pastor had a tendency of speaking his mind. Isn't that what you are doing right now? Aren't you really a racist and looking for a polite way to get your point across without coming off like you can't stand the thought of a black man being the President of this country. Who are you to judge? Hillary is not closing the gap because she is the better candidate, she is playing high school games by spreading and over exaggerating lies. This is the person that you want going to countries in the Middle East where women are not respected? How well do you think her aggressive attack will go over there? She is no diplomat, she is a attack dog and that is not the personality that should be running this country. I am all for women in power but her tactics will force the worse out of our foreign friends and foes.

Amos Zezmer   April 30th, 2008 11:30 pm ET

What was Caroline Kennedy doing at the interview? Perhaps Michelle should have also asked one of MLK Jr.'s children to sit beside her? As President Truman said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!"

Bobbie Cayce   April 30th, 2008 11:31 pm ET

I just loved her. This is the first time I've heard Michelle speak at length.
I am an Independant that in 04 was caring for my dear late friend Rose, 95. A Democrate through and through. I remember discussing Barack Obama with her the morning after his keynote speech. She had stayed awake for part of the speech. I told her how inspiring this young black man was and that I had a gut feeling that he was someone very special. I wish she had lived long enough to see this race. Perhaps she is watching. To see both a woman and a person of color running for President. Wow. This is historical. But back to the question.
Barack and Michelle are shineing stars and examples.

Polly   April 30th, 2008 11:32 pm ET

Do you guys have anything else to report on besides the "Reverend Wright" ? Are you trying to secure your bonuses for the year? Enough already!

Nancy   April 30th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

I am so sick of the media constantly dredging this issue up. How many of us go to church and sit there and don't always agree with the pastor? Did you leave? Obama chose this church for their outstanding outreach to the poor. I think that is what people need to consider when they compare Obama & Clinton. What has she done as far as reaching out to the needed of our country?
The media needs to cover what the candidates are standing for.not sling dirt! I haven't seen an media show the outrageous comments of McCain's pastor.
We need a president who has the forsight to try to bring this country together again. If we don't all work together then we will only see more and more problems – like we don't have enough due to the Republicans! So, when you go to vote, forget your racist thoughts and vote for the person who can really lead this country with a true desire to come together and work with all people.

KEN in NC   April 30th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

Michelle is a very dynamic speaker. She has fortitude and is very forthwright (PUN INTENDED) . I am a strong supporter of Senator Obama but if she was running for President I suspect that even John McCain would vote for her LOL.

I am tired of the dirty polotics now and tonight she elevated their campaign above it all and I think she did a good job of putting things to rest and she stuck to it. Strong woman. Hillary could learn from her after the re-election LOL.

Belay   April 30th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

I am just wondering why and how Mr. Rev. jumped into such game of racial issue. I think he is supposed to teach and live according to the Love of God as we have learned from Jesus. There should be no bias in his heart if he is a true serevant of God.
I know Americans are matured enough and will not run behind every emotions and comments of evry stubern. I do believe that Americans are no longer behind the skin and gendertoo. However, when the gender issue comes the whole world is not ready for female leadership and I do not know what to do with Hillary Clinton. America is one of the nations to lead the global politics, social, and economical matters. Hillary may not be objected in America because of the lesbians movement and the already developed culture there. But no matter what she will not be welcomed in the other part of the world as aleader of world because most of us are not ready to take such task. I think all conservatives and true Christians agree with me. Christianity is not about the denomination in the church it is about respecting, obeying, and living the according to the principle of God which includes who should be the head of house as well as of nation and in fact prolife principle too.

May God Bless America once again,

deb in alabama   April 30th, 2008 11:35 pm ET

Michelle is doing what any decent person would do, she is standing with her man. As the saying goes, "behind every good man, there is a great woman." I support and stand with the Obama's doing their trials in life. I think we can all relate to those!
I love you Barack and Michelle.
Obama 08'

Polly   April 30th, 2008 11:35 pm ET

What question can you ask about Reverend Wright that has not already been asked? What answer can Barack or Michelle Obama give that they have not already given that will satisfy your hunger for mre? Let it rest!

Joan Godfrey   April 30th, 2008 11:35 pm ET

When you misquote Michelle's words, you obviously distort the whole meaning of the quote. She said "for the first time in my adult life I am 'really' proud...She emphasized the 'really. She only has to read these blogs to know how 'mean' the country really is. This hatefulness makes me 'really ' ashamed of those who call themselves human beings. What does it say about the writer when they are so determined to call Barack a'liar'.
When you listen carefully to all of his speeches of explanation, you see that he is telling the truth. He said he did not 'vet' his pastor. In these churches, the children go to the Sunday school for church. There are no children in those pews. When the minister marries you, he talks about marriage and fidelity etc. If you miss those volatile sermons, no one 'tells' you about them because the full context is just not that important.
This petty stuff is important when you are looking for something to justify your own personal hatred and biases. Jealousy and resentment are alive and faring very well. If you allow MCCain to take over the White House because you do not want a 'biracial candidate' then America will get what it deserves. If people vote against their own self interest out of this intense hatred, then do not complain when things get much worse which they definitely will do. This country is not perfect and saying it is not a crime. I pray and hope that the good people will step forward and take charge because things need to get better. The positive people need to out class the negative people.

TOM   April 30th, 2008 11:35 pm ET

Mrs. Obama did not tell the complete truth during the interview..They ask her what she thought about a possible ticket with her husband and Hillary on the same ticket? she responded–I have never thought about it????????? Give me a break, any idiot knows better than that. Its been talked about many times between her and her husband and handlers,,,I am not so sure Mr. Wright(as bad as he is) was not telling the truth when he said they will do and say anything to get elected.( Not word for word what he said)/ But it all boild down to the same thing....

oglesby   April 30th, 2008 11:35 pm ET

What about the issues folks? Aren't there things people say, even in our familes that we don't agree with But still they are family...do their opinions reflect your belief?

Marie   April 30th, 2008 11:36 pm ET

Can some of the earlier primary states get a revote? We're starting a petition for one.

Bill   April 30th, 2008 11:37 pm ET

How can an interview with Michelle Obama not ask her if she wished she said never said a few weeks ago ( quote ) " I was never proud to be an American until recently "

If someone at CNN can't ask that in a sit down interview with Michelle Obama, then you can be assured some other reporter will ask her to elaborate on that statement that Michelle Obama made.

Char   April 30th, 2008 11:38 pm ET

I think Michelle spoke open and honestly. I really believe that America has been looking for a reason to tear this man down from day one. I'm saddened by hateful comments I read on the blogs as well as well as the divison that has happened to the democratic party. After the way that this has been handled, I cannot in good conscious vote for Hillary if she is the nominee. I have always been a fan of the Clinton family but you see the "true colors" of an individual when they are faced with adversity. Hillary has shown that she wants this at all cost.

Her personal business with her husband was "her personal business" Obama's personal business with his pastor is "his personal business".

I will be voting Republican in the fall and I will encourage everyone I know to do the same.

KEN in NC   April 30th, 2008 11:40 pm ET

I agree with you Kasha and Jana Brown you have herd their response on the Rev Wright issue so live with it. It is all that needs to be said. Each and every person in this party cannot be given responses until the responses satisfy them. You have to have some faith and confidence. I know that is hard to do on the heals of the bush administration but you have got to try.

Janet Max   April 30th, 2008 11:40 pm ET

I am concerned that there is far too little discussion of the economic challenges that America faces, and they are only going to get worse over the next few years.

Our national debt is over NINE TRILLION DOLLARS. We need to vet the presidential candidates and their policy teams to determine who will be best able to lead us as we confront this and other challenges, such as a crumbling infrastructure, poverty, and a war that has had devastating impact on our county and Iraq. We need to let these candidates be frank about what we need to do.

Instead, we obsess over flag pins, ministers, and sniper fire, and we tear apart every word anyone connected with the campaign utters, just looking for a reason to dismiss them and hate them. The media has a responsibility to help examine the issues that are critically important to our future, but instead they feed the beast that demands inflammatory superficialities. Americans, demand substance in the coverage of this campaign!

Patrice Archuleta   April 30th, 2008 11:41 pm ET

Let's let this story die. Let's get back to fixing America, and not the personal politics of denominational religion.

Mel   April 30th, 2008 11:44 pm ET

Michelle Obama is touting the familar line of “my husband is the under dog.” She wants us to feel sorry for them and to vote for him even though we are learning more bad things about them everyday! This is a couple that has sat in church and listened to the hatred and anti-white sentiment from Obama’s mentor and pastor for the last 20 years and they give all of their charity donations to organizations that help minorities only. This is a couple that is for Black America not all Americans. Whatever you think about Hillary Clinton and her staying with a husband that has had affairs outside of their marriage (I personally think she is a bigger person than I because I would have tar and feathered him on the front lawn of the White House) I have never doubted for one minute that Hillary wants anything other than to help all children and all Americans. Hillary wants all people in our country to have affordable health care, a house they can afford, a good paying job, and healthy chidren.

Deb McAll   April 30th, 2008 11:46 pm ET

I never thought I would ever favor Fox over CNN or MSNBC, but lately your bias and half-truths are disgusting. Both are Obama campaign headquarters. You people need to be trained by ABC on how to conduct a debate! The interview tonight with Hillary Clinton on Fox was outstanding! Sorry, as much as you tried, I marked Obama off the list of potential candidates in the early debates for his lack of articulating his platform. He was too busy degrading the other candidates. Likewise, Michelle Obama showed her true ilk in an earlier interview. Both appear to have a chip on their shoulders. American is not ready for divisive individuals like them! John Edwards was a much better candidate with true passion, a better track record of working for people and donating to the less fortunate. I was so upset when I found Obama up to his dirty trick publishing a negative pamphlet about Edwards in Iowa! Fox is fair and unbiased.

Joel O'Connell   April 30th, 2008 11:47 pm ET

This is an example of free press for Obama...So Obama get caught with the Rev incident and leave it to the press to bail out the Obamas. First, Obama's response...understandingly...but to put Michelle and Carolyn Kennedy on together...so long for an unbiased press.

The Clintons get the dumb ones to believe They dodge sniper fire when A child Is handing them a flower.

jennifer   April 30th, 2008 11:50 pm ET

I think Obama made a big mistake in distancing himself from Wright. He is doing exactly what Wright said, "Being a politician!" I am Asian and I think whatever Wright said about this nation, religion, race is 100% correct. Those that regard his speech correct but still want him to keep quiet know some people are not ready for honest talk. They fear Wright's honesty may hurt Obama's chances.

Years from now when we look back at Wright's speech, we'll realize what he said was right. America was not ready. I was going to vote for Obama knowing he had a good and honest preacher, but now I despise Obama for being an opportunist! He is willing to sell the man that has been a big influence in his life, in order to be a politician. Who knows what else he is willing to do in order to keep his position. He should have stood by Wright and tell Americans to listen to Wright, because Wright is honest!

A very disappointed supporter, Jennifer

connie   April 30th, 2008 11:51 pm ET

Every time Obama is caught up in something he transfers the blame to someone else. Like a child!. He has alot of people who support him in this. I think some of the pundits actually believe Hillary should defend Obama. She isn't allowed even to campaign against him. The truth is, people should stop making excuses for Obama. He shares the same views as his pastor. He would have denounced his pastor earlier, but knew it would hurt him in the black community. He didn't get angry about what his pastor said until he said something about him. He denounced his pastor when it hurt him with the white voters who were supporting him. And Michelle acts as if she is put out, because her husband is running for president. In her interview tonight she was put out, because she and her husband had to answer to the American people about their actions.

Annie F Kuriki-Klinger   April 30th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

It appears that CNN is providing a lot of air time for the Obama campaign to seek damage control in the Rev. Wright issue. Why didn't you give equal time to the Clinton campaign when it was accused of pulling the race card?

Venel   April 30th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

I think that super delegates should go on Clinton side to give her the nomination because Obama cant win with his pastor's controversy. This is the best chance democrats have to win the election this year. if Obama is the nominee, GOP will run national ad with Obama's former pastor that will cause him the election. I like the man. unfortunately, i don't think he can win. Republican machine will destroy Obama. I just love the Clinton machine Vs. the Republican machine a little bit better.

Lisa from MD   April 30th, 2008 11:54 pm ET

Religous fanatics lost the democrates the last election. I don't want anyone in the Whitehouse that belongs to a church where a pastor preaches hate in the name of Jesus Christ.

I would like to see M(s) Caroline Kennedy as Obama's running mate they make a good team. America needs a good team " A" team. They can make a change and they both do care about the American People.
If anyone one know what America is about it's Caroline Kennedy; She at a early age leaned what life was about and this Country. Obama does not need Hillary as his running mate she would only pull his Presidency DOWN!

Leeann   May 1st, 2008 4:04 pm ET

I believe we are sisters and brothers according to Gods word. so why are we fighting one another? We are one large family of color, so why are we keeping up this nonsense? We should pray for our country, which happen to be the riches country on the planet, yet we are poor, we are losing our homes, our jobs, gas prices are terrible, people are homeless, and so many other things are going on, so we have some serious problems. God is in charge he is watching over all of us. I really do not think he is pleased whith what he sees. We need to quit.
Support whom ever you please, please stop the nonsense. As a nation we should come together and work for the betterment of our country. What kind of examples are setting for our children and grand children? We are a people of color so what, if any of us is stuck with a stick pin when we bleed what color is the blood? Answer red. We should show more love toward each other and stop saying and doing things to hurt each other. Be blessed
