Tonight, the last Democratic match-up before the Pennsylvania primary.  Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama debated in Philadelphia and by the second question Obama had to explain, yet again, just what he meant when he told campaign donors at a San Francisco-area event 10 days ago that small-town Pennsylvania residents are "bitter" over their economic circumstances and "cling" to their guns and religion.  Who won?  Who lost? And what impact will it have on the primary next week?  The best political team in television will dissect the debate for you.

And we’re continuing our series on the top contenders for the White House with Sen. John McCain.  It’s an in-depth look at the presumptive Republican Nominee including what drove him to attempt suicide.

Plus, tomorrow there’s an unprecedented custody hearing in Texas.  What will happen to the 416 children removed from the polygamous compound?  Anderson’s going to talk to a spokesman from  FLDS and a former member.

We’ll be blogging for two hours tonight.  We’ll start posting comments at 10p ET and stopping at 12a ET

Sarah, Atlanta, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Good evening Anderson, Erica and Blogger. Happy Hump Day! Blogging for two hours....oh happy day! Will we get web cam for 2 hours too?

Anderson are you watching the debate on the tvs in the desk? The debate was quiet interesting.

Erica hopefully your alittle warmer tonight in the studio.

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Hello Anderson, Erica, and Bloggers!
Happy Wednesday!

Jolene   April 16th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Wow, 2 hours tonight. Thanks for the treat!

Brian Persaud   April 16th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Looking forward to the show as always. Little disappointed to still see the FLDS making it to the lineup, I'm a bit tired of blogging about it.

Ugh polls.

Zing-Zing, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Happy Hump Day, Everyone!

Jacqui Chan   April 16th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

-ha Anderson, you told Larry King great show, as if you were awake to watch!

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   April 16th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

The debate has yet to air out here in Calif. I guess I'll hear the after debate talk, before the debate. Then I'll have to decide if the second hour of ac360 is worth missing the debate. Oh that Pacific time zone..

Paul, Alexandria, VA   April 16th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Good Evening everybody! Hope it's a great show!!!!!!!

Alexander   April 16th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Good evening, bloggers. Good evening, Erica. How are you? Hey, your piece on John McCain is finally going to be aired tonight, isn’t it? I’ve been looking forward to that piece.:)

kathy in ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

hillary just talks circles around obama ..........................he is in big trouble

Yen   April 16th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Hi everyone. Looking forward to the show tonight – 2 hours?

Zenta, New York, NY   April 16th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Good evening, Anderson, Erica, and all!

Terri   April 16th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Hi Anderson, Erica and bloggers...I just watched the debate and thought it was the biggest waste of my time. ABC should never again be allowed to have a debate, they obvisously do not know how to do it.

Doug, Florida   April 16th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Hello Everyone

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

I hope we can be civil during this debate, we really must get through this mean politicking.

Carla Ontario Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Hi Ac, just watched the debate with HC & OB. Wow, did they ever ask tough questions , maybe CNN needs to start asking tough questions also. just my 2 cents.
By the way I believe Hillary did an excellent job and Obama did alright but he did look uncomfortable facing Wright, Ayers and bitter issue.

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

It will be fun blog in 2 hours! cool!

Erica D   April 16th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Dish Network just added CNN HD today. I am very happy to finally get to see 360 and other CNN programs in HD. Looks awesome so far!

hey everyone, thanks for joining us... we'll be bringing you the best of the debate tonite.. and some remarkable images from the polygamist compound.. and yes we are on for a full two hours tonite..

Melinda   April 16th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

I've been so into politics this past year but I'm starting to have enough of it. It seems like the talk about actually issues is so little of what is talked about anymore.

Every story about each candidate is blown out of proportion and it's really grating on a lot of people, I believe. I'll be happy when it's down to one Dem and one Rep.

Kathy   April 16th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

It's amazing how long Hillary can talk and still not answer the question.

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Hi Erica, Anderson, and crew! looking forward to tonight's show. Did you guys get a heater for Erica? :)

Bev   April 16th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

The debate was ridiculous. Spending ALL that time asking Obama about things that have nothing to do the election. I can see them being asked about those things, but not for half of the debate! They should have debated on CNN.

Stacy   April 16th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Yeah Kathy, ahead in the delegates, ahead in the polls, Obama's in big trouble.

Marcia   April 16th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

But neither of them talk about the issues its just what the other does wrong or doesn't do.

Doug, Florida   April 16th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Kathy in Ohio.
What debate were you watching? Obama is clearly the winner. He was about the issues not throwing dirt

Lori, Boston   April 16th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Hi Anderson & Erica. Sounds like another great show!

Charles   April 16th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Looks like Barack still has a whole lotta 'splainin' to do.

Deann "I'd Rather Not"   April 16th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

If I were lving in rural PA, I would take Obama's comments as being somewhat true

Andrea from Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

There are a lot of Canadians on this blog!

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

I like George Stephanopoulos so I enjoyed the debate tonight and I look forward to an interesting discussion.

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

yay us! 2 full hours, omg, AC overload!! lol

Jacqui Chan   April 16th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Though I am empathetic towards the mothers involved in the raid because the were raised in this society and don't know anything else, I would like to hear how a mother would respond if someone where to ask, "How would you feel if your son(s) were to become one of the lost boys and you would never hear from him again!"

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

So far so good. Please keep the nails retracted, Hillary. So important we hear about the important issues affecting the little guy, like gas prices, health care and the overall failing economy.

Sara, Oklahoma   April 16th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

What is the special occasion for two hours? Too bad I can't participate longer, I have a study session soon. Boo. :[

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

So who won during the debate? Obama or Clinton? I want to know.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I did not get Hillary's point about Obama being on the same board as Ayers.....great point by Obama who said Pres. Clinton pardon people closer to this guy

like Candy said on LK.....the answer is yes, yes, yes and HRC finally spoke some truth.

I wish Obama could run for Prime Minister of Canada.....he would have my vote

Maureen T   April 16th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Good evening all! 2 hours of AC360? :)

Kevin Leo from Jonesboro, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Tonight's debate was a joke!!! George and Charlie were totally in Hillary's back pocket all night long!!! You should read the blogs at ABCNew.com...without any misstatements or exaggerations, the vast majority of posters were disgusted with how the debate went tonight!

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Whats wrong with the webcam? u guys boycotting it tonight? do we have to look at some guys head all night?

Sue   April 16th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Hilary Clinton is all about old politics. I also am concerned about all her anti-NAFTA rhetoric.

EJ - Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Hello Anderson.. It'll be interesting to watch the results come in next Tuesday.

kathy in ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

bev
it had everything to do with the election it was about obamas claim to superior judgement thats what his whole platform is

Alys   April 16th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Hey Anderson,
good job on yesterday's show interviewing Kathleen from the polygamist community.

Maureen T   April 16th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

That's right Andrea from Canada, eh?

Jean Meyers, Atlanta, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

I'm bitter and I vote. And to pretend that there is nothing wrong economically or socially is condescending to voters, their intelligence and their feelings.

Pat   April 16th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Obama is a fantastic speaker – I don't see how people get so upset about a statement that is mostly true

mona   April 16th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Hi everyone,
I wish CNN did the debate; it mass failure, those guys spent 40 minutes talking about tabloids issue. Anderson I think you a true journalist.

Keysha   April 16th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

That debate was horrible. They talked about issues that were not relevant to Americans.

We heard more from Obama, then Hilary, they asked him redundant questions over issues that we have already heard about and gave answers too

ABC should never ever do another debate again.

Shane, Kentucky   April 16th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

I agree with Obama, people are bitter. I lost my job 2 1/2 years ago to overseas competition. I was fortunate to get retraining. Now just as I get out of school, the economy tanks and I can't find work in my new field in my small town. I'm not bitter, but I can certainly understand why others would be.

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Hi Anderson:

Glad you are back. I have been off the blog this week due to workload. Looking forward to the debate, and I really hope they stay civil.

Tony   April 16th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Hi Erica!
Hello from Portugal again.
You are beautiful as always.
Have a nice show!

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Yes! I agree with you LOL! Brandi!

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Kathy I could not agree more with your comment.....she has amazing skill at not answering the question that was actually asked of her

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

so who do people want to see take on the great John McCain? Hillary or Obama ??

Doug, Florida   April 16th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Anderson:
Can we talk about the issues. Move on PLEASE!!!!

EJ - Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

I was kind of bored by the debates. This is the 21st one right?

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Strangely enough by refusing to disavow his relationship with Reverend Wright and the church which supports him, Obama is also guilty of clinging to his religion.

Carla Ontario Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

@lorie ann, CA. highly recommend watching debate, Hillary did exceptional well. It is clear to me that she is the stronger one.
No offense to CNN but ABC News did execellent job. I am loyal to CNN daily.

Teresa   April 16th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

@ PAT: perhaps they feel they are being talked down to?

Sarah, Atlanta, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

It seems like the issues aren't very important in this election as they are rarely talked about.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

obvisously Anderson should do some 360's from Canada since he has so many viewers from Canada....what do you think Anderson and Erica ;)

Stacy   April 16th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

This is so ridiculous. We're fighting two wars. Millions in poverty. Millions without health insurance. Crumbling infrastructure. A failing education system. New Orleans still struggling. And on and on. Yet here we are talking about poor word choices.

Brian Persaud   April 16th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

The way I see it no one is taking the high road. I think I would have jumped ship, if Obama didn't allow himself to involve himself in "old politics", but that isn't the case. He is as defensive as ever, so they are more or less equals in my mind.

Zing-Zing, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Pat, I agree with you. We seem to have shifted the focus from the issues to more of an entertainment / tabloid foray.

Billi   April 16th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Why are you discussing Senator Clinton's choice of things to talk about when SHE WAS ASKED the questions????
\

EJ - Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

"I’m not bitter, but I can certainly understand why others would be."

I'm certainly bitter... I'm tired of being tired and tired of being sick and unemployed and everything else.

Kathy   April 16th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

She might not be dumb. But she did lie about sniper fire.

Joseph Kowalski, North Huntingdon, PA   April 16th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

The ABC debate should have addressed the real issues facing Americans instead of all the manufactured theatrics.

Jean Meyers, Atlanta, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

As for the debate, it's not really debate because I heard more cherry-picked news topic questions than the policies of the candidates. Plus Clinton should realize that her own husband has shaken hands and spoken with the same Rev. Wright that the news soundbites. So by social law of Clinton, because she's married to Bill Clinton, who knows Rev. Wright through association, then she's affiliated with the same reverend as Obama and we've just played a game of Six Degrees of Separation of Obama and Clinton.

Alys   April 16th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

EJ I agree, it feels like debate #2100...especially when they don't talk about the issues

Terri   April 16th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

I was on their blog and it was soooo negative towards ABC and how they handled this debate.

Emily   April 16th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Yea but the media is also to blame for the way they talk about her.
Go Hillary

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Hi EJ!
Me too EJ! I will watch CNN next Tuesday!

Keysha   April 16th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

"Kevin Leo"

I was looking at the comments on the ABC news blogs too. People are upset, the debate was very one sided.

Charlie was pretty much arguing with Obama the entire time.

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Hillary was right to point out that Obama's judgment must be called out by his relationship with Rev Wright.

Fay, CA   April 16th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

It's long past time to move away from the Reverand Wright story–how many times does Obama have to explain his association with the pastor? When will they ever put the focus on the other important issues that are going to affect voters?

Terry, Texas   April 16th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Of course Obama is electable. He wouldn't get this far without it. I am glad that she has said it so she can move on to proving she is a stronger candidate.

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Sometimes it is best not to say the truth because it may get misinterpreted by the audience that hears it.

Oh no, the trials and travails of misstatements and blunt truths. Can we get past this? It is putting McCain in the lead and splitting the Dem party.

Sahira   April 16th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

The Bosnia thing was just a mistake. LET IT GO PEOPLE! She has apoloziged for it several times.

Sunae, Jacksonville, Fl   April 16th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Your right Anderson it's a big disconnect. Hillary stuck her foot in her mouth.

Shell Hari   April 16th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Hillary Clinton's Book...

Can anyone read the chapter on the Bosnian trip in Hillary's book to make sure that Hillary was not getting up at 3am in the morning to answer phone calls and became so tired that she hallucinated about coming under sniper fire during her trip to Bosnia when she wrote this section? I wouldn't mind if she mis-wrote. I am getting immuned to her virus.

Shell, N.Y.

Alys   April 16th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

have any of the candidates mentioned what they plan to do to help the crisis on Darfur??

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Obama's explanation was weak that Rev Wright's comments were only snippets. These are two hour long videos being sold on the church's website!!!

priscilla   April 16th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

honestly Obama said the truth about people being bitter. yes i am and i have met people who are.bitter about the economy, immigration, and the government and guess what they tturn to what they know best. which religion, family, other activities.

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Why hello Brian, I agree, not impressed at all.

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Anderson, Why is it that when Clinton misspeaks it s called a lie, but when Obama misspeaks it is just a misunderstanding? In my opinion, they are both being dishonest.

Keysha   April 16th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

When is CNN doing another debate?

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Anderson or Erica,
what happened to webcast????

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

don't make the campaign hinge on the Bosnia comment and the "flag comment" and little things such as these. Let's talk character and accomplishments.

Stacy   April 16th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

I'm not sure why we needed this debate anyway. If you haven't made up your mind by this point...

Erica Hill
CNN

Good evening, bloggers – hope everyone had a good day.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

all these non issues are not helping all you americans. as someone outside looking in....sometimes it is laughable but then I realize it is actually really just sad. Get to the issues

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

ummmm.....WEBCAM!!??

Andrea from Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Hahaha... I agree with you Megan O, I have a place for them to stay if it happens! ;)

Jayson   April 16th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

yeah hillary talked circles around obama when they would let her speak they focused more on him then asking the right questions but i do think she talked a little bit more policy then he did i mean he keeps bringing up her husband but i dont think hes running or did i miss that but over all even though she didnt get as much time to talk as him she won hands down he stutters to much i think he reminds me of a president i know no thank you return to sender

Chuck in Alabama   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Interesteing debate. I don't think either candidate got off easy. Wish they had skipped the whole 'oops factors' questions and just moved on to the issues.

I didn't see a big gap between the plans or responses other than Clinton appeared to have done her homework on the statistics and facts.

I'd rather see more forums like the "Compassion Forum" the other night. Let each candidate answer questions to a host for a period of time and then have the other candidate take the same questions without the candidates addressing each other.

Kevin Leo from Jonesboro, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Keysha – They both really showed their hands by interrupting Barack throughout the night while interrupting Hillary maybe once or twice.

Joseph Kowalski, North Huntingdon, PA   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

The Bosnia thing was a mistake made on 4 separate occasions. This is why people are wondering how truthful Clinton is on the real issues.

Latanya, Tampa Fl   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

I am back from the dark side! Thank GOD! So glad to be watching you Anderson! That so called debate was awful! The first hour was nothing but tabloid tv! I really don't care who wears a flag pin. Someone once told be going to church ever sunday makes you no more faithful than going into a garage makes you a mechanic.
Kind of feel the same way about the flag pin.

Mary   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Shame on ABC it was the most negative and disgusting anchor...ouach

Sharon, GO HILLARY!   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

OMG!!!!!Anderson is actually crying with David about how the debate went for their precious BO!!!!! How funny!!!!!
That was THE best debate of this entire primary! They BOTH were asked tough questions and were not allowed to give flimsy answers. You guys at CNN and the people at NBC have treated BO with such kid gloves, he can't handle REAL questions.....I knew if I tuned in tonight all you would do is YET AGAIN bash Hillary and try to make up for BO's problems. You all can take your polls and place them you know where. Let's see what Tuesday brings!

Rene   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Tonights debate was a waste. The moderators were clearly pro Hillary and keep repeating yesterdays news, bitter and Rev Wright, but like Obama I think most Americans are smarter than that. Obama made a few points that showed again Hillarys inability to be truthful and her ability to flip flop and say whatever she thinks is necessary to win. She had no response either time because truth is truth.

Jennifer   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Sahira,
The Bosnia thing wasn't the only "mistake".....and she hasn't apologized for it either. If Obama gets whacked for saying "regret" and it's not considered an apology, Clinton's "misstatement" should be treated the same

Melinda   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Part of the problem with politics in general is that no one is every allowed to be a human being. No on is ever allowed to make a mistake or vote for something that they later realize was a mistake. Yes, trust and honesty are very important (blatant lying is not cool) but I think all the candidates need to be seen as humans with faults and baggage. Sometimes they all deserve a break. None of us are perfect, that's for sure.

kathy in ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

he has to keep explaining the wright issue over and over because he keeps changing his story

Kolynda   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

This was the WORST debate I have ever seen!!! The debate was completely biased. ABC news should be ashamed. They did a horrible job. They barely spoke about the issues.

Jose. Y   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Hello everyone, where is Erica anyway?

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

where is Erica hiding on webcam???

janet   April 16th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

I'm upset that Obama has been able to hide who he truly is until now. It seems to me that he has been covering up his true beliefs and they are now coming out. I wish I could change my vote for Clinton, but our primaries are over now. I also want to know more about Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers and Dohrn. It seems like he has a close relationship with people who don't love our country and have it's best interest in mind.

Lisa - Fayetteville, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

I'm Bitter alright – Bitter that ABC's so called debate was a waste of time!

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Obama got the backing of 2 superdels today. i wonder if this is a sign of things to come in the very near future. I am not sure if Hillary is going to recover from the image that she is projecting. They are pretty calm tonight though.

Yen   April 16th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Jo Ann, I agree with you on that.

Sharon, GO HILLARY!   April 16th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

CNN HATES Hillary Clinton.....why don't you just come out and say so.....you treat her horribly and praise everything BO does and make excuses for everything he does.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

this was a horribly slow hump day to be honest Erica.....only thing to make the time past was waiting for 360 to start

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

It IS important to look at the fabric of Obama's church-

Rev Wright's 20 year relationship with Obama defines Obama's character. The rhetoric, the tone of Rev Wright define the church and the church defines Obama's spiritual life.

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   April 16th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Did Hillary say she'd discount the generals advice? Obama too?

Brian Persaud   April 16th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Kathy> Obama has also lied. On one occasion he said he wasn't aware of Wright's views, and then later said that he has known about them for the years he attended the church. The interview footage is on Youtube, although it hasn't made headlines. Just being fair.

Dwayne   April 16th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Anderson,
It seems as if the debates that aired on ABC tonight did not reveal anything new. When are the american people going to hear something that has real substance? Truth be told, I believe that the ameriacn people will be somewhat happy once these primaries are over. We may begin to see some real issues being discussed verses the silly season of politics that the american people are subject to hear.

Billi   April 16th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

The "debate" was not about the issues because the media keeps telling us that they are so close on the issues. The media keeps telling us that it is about character. The Obama campaign has said there have been enough debates. And Anderson keeps bringing up trust and likeability. So, what is it that viewers want – issues or getting to know the candidates?

ABC did a good job on giving us a chance to look at these candidates.

Jolene   April 16th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

I'm done with these democratic debates, much rather see a debate with between the Republican and Democratic candidate discussing their stance on the issues....that is, if we ever get a Democratic candidate.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

@ Andrea – I met Anderson last year at a booksigning and talked to him about coming to Canada. He said he has been to Montreal but there is a whole lot of the great white north the 360 needs to see

CaseyJPS - California   April 16th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Honestly, I just don't care who "mis-spoke" about what, or about the persons in their everyday lives they know (short of political influence). I want to hear about the issues that affect me and my community, which includes the Iraq occupation. I think the CNN profiling the three candidates is brilliant and a good start for me to learn about who these people really are (although none of the stories are definitive).

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

oops! I made mistake webcast instead webcam, LOL! duh me!

Sharon, GO HILLARY!   April 16th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

What does it feel like, CNN?????? Obama was ACTUALLY ASKED hard questions!!!!! Something CNN is not capable of doing. You all LIVE to protect your golden child. You are a joke!

Colin Manzon   April 16th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Oh great?? Another story on the polygimist compound. Talking about beating a story to death. Well at least it wasn't the lead story for a half hour today. I don't care that you got exclusive access to the compound. Now you're going to show us where one of them live. Do you really think I'm not going to switch the channel? Come on guys get real, this stuff is getting really boring. Sorry to be so blunt but it is the truth.

Mary   April 16th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Well it was over whelping how Hillary won that debate tonight. She had answers and Obama was babbing. Wake up America Hillary is the one to be President.

Don't tell me that Hillary is not due our trust, she is the only one of the Presidental candiates that is electableand capable of running this country.

Stop complaining about the answers that were given, both candiates were answering the questions they were ask. I like the questions because that has been what the people have been asking about.

Hillary Clinton is the smartest person in Washington DC. Hillary 08 or a mistake

EJ - Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

"I’d rather see more forums like the “Compassion Forum” the other night. Let each candidate answer questions to a host for a period of time and then have the other candidate take the same questions without the candidates addressing each other."

Yes that was actually very well done. It was different and also a different look into the hearts & minds on the candidates. I enjoyed that.

Kriss   April 16th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Anderson,
Hope you brought a heater for Erica. Or better yet, you should bring her over to your table, so she won't feel so cold! Besides, we don't like seeing Erica soo far away!

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

I could almost stomach a Hillary presidency, as long as she doesn't raise my taxes

Jen in Mex.   April 16th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Thanks for fixing the web cam. We want all sides covered!

Mike   April 16th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Hello Anderson,

I find this particularily curious. If the moderators were asking everyone about their dirt and baggage......I found it curious why they didn't bring up the latest controversy about clinton's advisor being demoted after promoting and working on the colombian trade agreement.

Seems to me the moderators were concentrating on obama's so called mistakes (keep in mind that he is charged for what other's have done, and for only having to know them) while they completely missed to ask teh candidates questions about where they stand on America's trade policy. (not a single question was asked about trade policy which I think is one of the big issues. I would have been more than interested in trying to find out where Clinton stood on this despite the recent controversy with her top campaign advisor.

EJ - Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Are people who make $250,000/year really considered middle class? Wow. What I would give to have a salary like that. $0/year is not really getting me anywhere.

Jim   April 16th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

People say this is such a "Historic" moment in American politics..... seems to be same old story of politics as usual, mudslinging reigns supreme, rhetoric, and false promises taking center stage: Most voters believing in smoke and mirrors promises. What's so historic about the same way each political campaign unfolds? It's the same he said she said negativity. Want to win the confidence of American voters ? It's easily accomplished. Be honest. Don't promise the moon and stars when you know for absolute certainty you can't deliver.

Edana Popp   April 16th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

No TV, so I won't know when you're talking about the FLDS...
As I said on another post, please do a piece about keeping the Attorneys General honest! Where have they been hiding while the pedophiles get away with their sick activities?

Who is "following the money?"

Doug, Florida   April 16th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Obama looks real presdental tonite and Hillary sound so bitter

Jose. Y   April 16th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

oops..nevermind Erica just posted. On another note, I had no clue a debate was held today. Hearing the clips on CNN makes me wonder if this debate was even about the issues.

Pat   April 16th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

These debates are silly – both candidates can answer the questions – at the end of the neither can give a straight answer as to how they plan to reach out to all Americans.

Now, if you happen to be a guy wearing a chicken suit on a Thursday both candidates would have a plan to help that one guy.

Stacy   April 16th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I agree that they both just pandered on Iraq. They just gave fuel to McCain. Not a good move.

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Megan O.
Erica is here on live blog, they have problem webcam......

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Hi Erica, good to see you.

@Megan: it is good to hear a point of view from an objective source outside of the US. I agree that the issues are what is important. Unfortunately as the Dems discuss trivial issues McCain tackles more of the issues and because we are waiting to hear about the issues, and he is addressing them, his audience is getting wider.

Notwithstanding the issues raised and discussed tonight, it is important for the Dems to carry these issues into the months to come and leave trivial issues behind tonight.

Emily   April 16th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Well said Sharon this was the first time I seen some good questions .
and no one was asking him if he needed a pillow.
Did anyone see the front page of the USA Today Paper?
GO HILLARY

janet   April 16th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I agree with SHARON that CNN doesn't like Hillary. I also believe most of the other news stations are on a Hillary hunt. What's funny is FOX news, which is not democratic, is the only one sticking up for Hillary. They are always asking why are all the other news stations attacking her and protecting Obama. I watch all the news stations so I can get a perspective on what everyone is thinking.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

I love that 6 out of 10 Americans don't trust Hillary. Very interesting

Jayson   April 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

Janet i know alot of people who agree with you OB is just as fake as any politican and he true colors really showed tonight he had more time to talk and he still looked like a liar he coud have converted the questions back to policy i fhe wanted but didnt we dont need another WUBBA

Kim in Texas   April 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

Sharon: I agree completely. Obama flipped, flipped, "bush diverted", stumbled, hammered. He wasn't able to spit out his campaign rhetoric and vague/ambiguous answers as he gets away with in most debates.

Tonight's debate was truly revealing on how well they each can think and speak on the spot. Hillary won this debate hands down.

Persons that voted for Obama back months ago are now reconsidering why they voted for him in the first place, as once you get past the campaign "goodie" talk, they are finally getting to see him for what he is – an individual with a huge ego who would sacrifice the rights of voters in Florida and Michigan in order to get what HE wants for himself.

carmen   April 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

David is always so clear and substantive

Lj Amato New York   April 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

After this debate, it cannot be made more clear to me that Hillary is far more intelligent, capable and ready to be Commander in Chief. Obama stumbled and tripped over his words. She is clear concise and right on the mark.

Hillary '08 All the Way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yen   April 16th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

I thought Hillary Clinton did a better job answering the questions tonight. I guess the analysts disagree with me.

Jean Meyers, Atlanta, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

I used to make $15/hourly. Right now I'm unemployed and on the brink of being homeless. I'm a member of the "Walk It Off" healthcare plan, so getting sick or injured would break the piggy bank for me. I started going back to school because I couldn't get a job that pays $6.75 a hour for being "overqualified". And I know there are people worse off than me. What I want to know is what policies do the candidates have that can help people like me?

Christine   April 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

I really will have to let CNN (oh boy) and the bloggers fill me in on the debate. I had a hockey game to watch and cry over.

lydia MA   April 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

I thought the role of jthe press and moderate debate was to see beyond the day to day fairly uninformed opinions of the general public and pose questions about pertient and complex issues of the day. What we have have now is a lot of stories about the process and word parsing.

This debate took the low road. What made this primary season exciting was that for a few months the candidates actually spent some real time talking vision and/or policy. Its back to the grime ..which gives one little reason to vote

Brian Persaud   April 16th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

As long as we change the direction I'll be satisfied. I don't think Obama or Clinton are going to snap their fingers and make the war go away. But as long as its not "open ended", as Gergen put it, I'll be a lot happier.

Zenta, New York, NY   April 16th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

It seems Mr. Obama still has not made a clear statement about "bitter" comments. And recently, he has avoided making comments for a lot of things not confortable to him.

Cynthia   April 16th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

She had an insider in George Stephanolous(?) and probably knew the questions in advance.

Kathy   April 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

EJ Ohio, I thought that also. I think I must be poverty level.

Kevin Leo from Jonesboro, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

I loved watching Hillary attack Barack over his comment that he would love to increase the payroll tax threshhold above the current $97,000. She is sticking up for her S109 million while Barack is looking out for woking class Americans who will be dependent on Social Security in the years and decades to come!

Sarah, Atlanta GA   April 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

The polygamy segment sould be interesting. Can't wait to see it.

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Neither candidate can give a definitive answer about what they will do in Iraq. They don't know what the conflict will look like next year and they cannot just disregard what the generals on the ground will advise them to do.

CaseyJPS - California   April 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

..AND I don;t care about lapel pins!!!

Billi   April 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

I know David is not a Hillary fan but I guess he must really be upset about Barack's lackluster performance tonight – he keeps criticizing Hillary. Why aren't you Barack fans there telling us how great Barack did? Is it because he didn;t do well, maybe????

Gary   April 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Talk about missing the question. Sen. Clintion was asked the polls show a concern about her "trust and honesty", all she could answer was I am many things but I'm not "dumb". Ok, so we can't trust you or what???

Mary   April 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

CNN – we are still waiting for as in-depth a coverage you gave on Race and Politics to Gender and Politics. Why can't you explore the issue of gender bias which is so rampant at your own organization? Where have you gone Ted Turner?

carmen   April 16th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Hillary has not been wearing a pin either and nobody every asks her

Sunae, Jacksonville, Fl   April 16th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

I don't wear a flag pin what's the big deal?

Judi Smith   April 16th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

So Hillary is damned if she does or damned if she doesn't? If she had been wishy – washy like B.O. is most of the time she would have been put down by your media people for that. At least she has a good direct plan. Those reporters on your show tonith are unfair and mean to Hillary.

Judy from NJ   April 16th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

The debates should stick to the issues that are important to the American people. We really need to address the economy, war, healthcare, education. Who is the media really listening to? Why are they focusing on nonsense issues? Overall, I was disappointed in the ABC debate; the anchors were clearly biased. They made a very negative impression.

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Patriotism, very important issue to me. What is with Hillary and the negativity?

Joseph Kowalski, North Huntingdon, PA   April 16th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Whether we like it or not, whoever wins in November, the United States is going to remain in Iraq for some time. There is no way we can "responsibly" leave without leaving Iraq in a state of chaos.

Any promises by candidates about leaving Iraq is their wishful thinking or pandering to voters.

Terri   April 16th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

The most surprising thing about the debate tonight was when they were talking about raising the cap on payroll tax. I think it should be raised, people who make the least amount of money payroll tax on EVERY dollar and those who make above $97,000 don't. I just don't understand that????

Erica Hill
CNN

It's interesting the stories and events that keep coming back in a campaign. I believe a lot of that can be attributed to blogs and a more active cyberspace... what about you?

Also, do you think all the activity online hurts voters; does it make it more difficult to get the truth about the candidates?

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Alys   April 16th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

patriotism should not be measured by how many flags you wear on your clothes.

Linda   April 16th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

JoAnn, Obama said at the Compassion Forum that he does cling to his religion. He never has it was wrong, he just said that's what you do in times of hardship. Cling to that which is familiar and dear to you.

I haven't watched that debate yet (West Coast), but it's interesting to see the responses.

Susan   April 16th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

CNN, Have you read the 5000+ comments about tonight's debate on ABC's blog? You should! ABC has taken a deserved beating after tonight's BIG TOP DEBATE. Charlie should be preparing his apology for tomorrow night's news right now. Please keep this in mind when preparing your debate material. The people have spoken and they're voices are getting louder.

Kim in Texas   April 16th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Janet: I agree about FOX news providing fair coverage of Hillary. Who would have ever thought THAT would happen? And I agree that MSNBC and CNN are riding the same propaganda wagon for Obama – just like they did with Bush. And we all know how that administration has turned out...

janet   April 16th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Anderson~
If you could answer this question for me...
Do you truly believe this has been a negative campaign? I've only been voting since 1980, and I truly don't believe this has been negative compared to past campaigns. Thanks.

Peanut   April 16th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

The amount of money someone makes (i.e. Clinton) is not an indication of how "elitist" they are–it's a mind set.

DeniseGA   April 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

The debate was horrible

Slighted in Hillarys' favor.

They spent most of the time bashing Obama!

Teresa, Kent, OH   April 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

@ Jean M. : I'm with you. Enough of the mudslinging. Let's hear what ANY of the candidates can do for Joe and Jane Average. How can they get us jobs? How can they not raise taxes? How can they get us out of Iraq safely? HOW???

I think this whole campaign has taken a sickening turn and I believe with all my heart it is due to the MEDIA RATINGS game. : (

Mary H. St. Louis, MO   April 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Good evening Anderson, Erica, AC360 staff and bloggers.

I have to admit that I turned off the debate to watch the American Idol kickoff show. It sounds like the debate got ugly... Darn.. I should have stayed tuned in to it.

Brian Persaud   April 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I wonder where Anderson stands on the candidates. I know if he ever revealed that his show would turn into AC180, but it would be interesting to hear his thoughts after meeting so many candidates and experts, and having a seemingly more informed standpoint than the average person.

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

just because your candidate didn't perform well doesnt' make the network "biased"

mona   April 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

@ shane I agree with you; in PA the company that make mint candies is closing shop and moving to mexico. Myself I'm bitter; gas prices are soaring and today my boss said we have to wait for 6 months for review for raise.

Maureen T   April 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Haven`t we moved past the fact that Barack Obama didn`t wear a U.S. flag pin. He is proud to be American!

Janice   April 16th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I think that Hillary did a great job at the debate. As politicians go, Obama is a bunch of hot air. I wish the media would leave Hillary alone and let the people decide who needs to be the next President. The media has beat up on her since day one. Obama has been given a free ride by the media.

Angela C   April 16th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

I can make up my own mind about what was said at the debate. You bring people on your show and they give their opinions. I watched the debate and don't agree with most of the stuff Candy and David are saying.

Arkansas

Shane, Kentucky   April 16th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Hey Jean and EJ I'm a member of the unemployed club too. At this point I don't really care if Hillary or Obama wins. I'll vote for either one. The Republican agenda is flawed. They keep pumping money out into the world, and have lost touch with the average American. It's obvious from the housing bust and Bear Stearns that there has got to be some regulation. I say tax the greedy corporations.

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Honestly I felt that obama was getting the edge by the media as well. I was for Hillary, but she is drawing negativity to herself.

I have heard Anderson state on more than one occasion that Hillary has been invited to be interviewed on 360 and she has either declined or not responded. She has to put some good positive campaigning out there or negativity will come back.

Joseph Kowalski, North Huntingdon, PA   April 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Obama is correct. A flag pin does not make someone a patriot and it has, to some extent, become a false symbol of patriotism. G.W. Bush wears his flag pin as he signs legislation cutting funds to help veterans.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Maybe there should be a debate where issues are written on pieces of paper and they get pulled out of a hat and that is all that is debated....if someone gets off point, they loose time or something. I also wish we heard about more then just Iraq, the economy and healthcare. All very important but there are many other topics that I have no idea where the candidates stand and I watch EVERYTHING that is on....so if I as someone who watches has not clue what is going on and I can't even vote, what about the many people who only watch the clips on the news and can vote

BTW – can you tell I wish I could vote LOL :P

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Anderson, I don't think Obama had a choice, he was forced to wear the flag pin. It would have been political suicide to refuse it or stuff it in his pocket don't you think?

Sue   April 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Silly season it is-who cares if he's wearing a flag pin or not. What Americans should be concerned about is their respect and status in the world. Their vision for their country and dealing with the real issues like lack of health care for 46 million Americans while billions of dollars is spent in Iraq.
Sue Canada

DeniseGA   April 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Gary, I caught that as well. She skipped right over the question.
Just as she declined and they went to commercial, when Obama stated facts about the pardons, Bill Clinton made.

Kriss   April 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Uh-oh, Anderson's playing with his blackberry again... =)
You gotta love this webcam!

Kim   April 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Erica, I think all the interest and discussions on the internet and in blogs is a good thing. However it means there are so many opinions available that people have to be careful not to confuse opinions and editorials with facts. I think many readers take things they read for granted without checking the facts and being critical of what they read....

Jason   April 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Was it just me or did Hillary admit she lied about the Bosnia incident?

Lisa - Fayetteville, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   April 16th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I agree Jo Ann, The generals are over there trying to do their job. Their advice just can't be disregarded.

Thank you, Mark Helprin, for that last remark. I'm tired of Obama claiming he doesn't engage in negative attacks.

Yvonne   April 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Where does Hillary wear her flag pin?

Kevin Leo from Jonesboro, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

The web has become a great source for unfiltered information as well as extremely biased commentary...it all depends on how open you are as a reader to understand which is which!

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Also, I wore flag label pin my life, I am support USA!

janet   April 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Erica~
I believe the blogs and active cyberspace do keep it alive, but that is a good thing. I don't think the activity hurts the voter, because I'm hoping that it sparks a question in the voter like it does in me and then they research it themselves. I don't make a decision by what you or Anderson may say or report on, and I don't think that you want your views to make a decision on what you say or do. I hope that they research it themselves and make a wise and well thought out decision.

Judy   April 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Love it when the show emphasizes politics over other issues. I also love it when Candy Crowley and David Gergen are part of your panel.
They are always so refined and well spoken.

Billi   April 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Erica, I think it is very hard for the voters to get the truth about candidates when commentators let their bias about candidates come through. This blog allows all comments but Jack Cafferty will NOT post anything nice about Senator Clinton.

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

AAAAAHHHH! Im being moderated!! Stop it!!

Erica, I think we actually hear more with all the online activity, however, it does make it a little more difficult to separate fact from rumor.

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

I think the internet is doubled edged sword. You can't verify facts as well as say, in a printed newspaper article.

Jen in Mex.   April 16th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

The problem is that so many people don't have the minimum idea of how to evaluate information ( and not just politics) on the internet. Just one more failure, and a dangerous one, of how and where we get our information. Of course, that doesn't apply to this blog or hosts and participants :)

Lana   April 16th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Anderson,
Clinton's under sniper fire and Obama's Bitter comment have been covered so deeply by the media, why doesn't the media talk about the oil in Iraq and what is happening to it? or other important issues
It would also be a good idea to cover some of the private companies such as Halliburton, their profits and the war. companies like those are profiting from the war. the connection between those companies and the goverment (conflict of interest).

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Off topic but Erica you look lovely tonight. You can't tell you are probably frozen

Carla Ontario Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

@Mary, I could agree with you more. Hillary is by far the most knowledgeable and strongest candidate. I am truly impressed as she speaks with authority and doesn't stump with her answers. She knows the issues inside and out and explains her plans very clearly.
GO HILLARY!

EJ - Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Erica,

"Also, do you think all the activity online hurts voters; does it make it more difficult to get the truth about the candidates?"

Interesting question. I think it doesn't hurt voters anymore than what they see on TV.

I think most of us know all 3 campaigns have their workers trolling sites like these – trying to influence everyone. (especially the Clinton campaign...)

It is harder for voters to make decision with so much more information (cable, internet, etc) to sort through – but that's both a plus & a negative. In the end I think most voters will make a well informed decision on who they feel is the best candidate.

PAT SIMS   April 16th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

I watched the debate, too. Hillary didnt dig into Obama until he lied about the questions being asked or only told half truths. What is the big deal about forgetting exactly what happened in Bosnea,. Obama denies anything he has been caught doing. Good grief you Americans believe anything told to you, you are ignorant and redneck just exactly as he stated. Clinging to your guns and religion, and against illegal aliens, your bitter and frustrated. This is what he said about small town americans in a closed fund raising event with his wealthy crowd. CNN quit lieing about the debate, the questions were asked by the ABC newsmen. She gave the rebuttal.

Brian Persaud   April 16th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Erica Hill> No I think the internet is absolutely fantastic. Its so easy for the media to spin it, but when you post raw footage on sites such as Youtube, you can judge for yourself.

Bonnie   April 16th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

So glad that family made it out safe. Wow!!

Terry, Texas   April 16th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

I think that it does make it more difficult...most that I know take things that come across in e-mails to be the truth and do no research themselves.

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

@ Erica: most definitely there is a wider audience with television and the internet and the public is able to voice their opinion in markets that they can be heard because of it as well.

The very fact that U Tube was the vehicle that the Rev. Wright sermons were televised on...the audience is huge. Without blogging and e-mailing and protesting, posting videos make statements that are just as loud.

CaseyJPS - California   April 16th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Erica-

I'll never believe that access to more information is a negative thing. I see your point about getting to the truth–that's very interesting and I really have to think about that...

armod   April 16th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

ABC it was the worst Debate in history simply a TABLOID EVENT, what a shame.

Stacy   April 16th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Erica, if anything I think all the online activity is a great benefit. Sure, there's a lot of misinformation and the blogs can act as an echo chamber, but quite frankly there's a lot of misinformation on television too. Now the blogs can keep the mainstream honest and push stories. Just look at what happened to Senator George Allen. If not for YouTube he might be the Republican nominee. Also, there are some great online sites such as factcheck.org that you can find great fact checking of campaign commercials.

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

I cannot vote for someone who doesn't put their hand over their heart or wear the flag pin proudly ! It's important to show patriotism

Lesli   April 16th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Wow, what an experience Barry Mosier and his family had on tht plane.

Anderson fly out of another airport next time.

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

@Erica, There is no such thing as too much information as far as the election is concerned. It is better to have too much than not enough. It is really up to the voters to determine what they believe to be true. That is why I get my information from a number of sources not just cable news. If we don't do our homework shame on us!

Bonnie   April 16th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

AC–better stay away from that airport!!

Zing-Zing, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Erica,
I don't think online activity necessarily "hurts" voters; it's more of a way for voters to get the most up-to-date information rather. I think that the internet allows voters to get more information than just what is featured on television. Of course, it can work both ways: people can deliberately post slanderous information on the internet and have it reach a wider audience.

Esther Salinas   April 16th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Just so you people know on Bias CNN, Radical Obama will never win the Hispanic VOte that voted for Hillary at 70%. He only has 30% of the Hispanic vote because that 30% are mostly 1st generation Americans with Illegal parents that want drivers license for illegals. I'm sick and tired of your network always stating that the Hispanic vote will come back because right now were not familiar from this radical lover. Guess what, all of America is'nt familiar from this snake. All the Hispanics that voted for Hillary are voting For MCCain because he's a patriot. I know because i have my own blog and the people are saying this is going to happen and i am witth them. Again, for your eyes only Bias Anderson.

Janice   April 16th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Most people who don't trust Hillary don't know that much about her. I have followed this woman for years now. I believe that she is the only one of the politians who is intelligent and honest enough to help this country that is in such a huge mess!!!

angie tn   April 16th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

The debate tonite was a joke i'm surprised they didn't ask the canidates what they had for breakfast this morning.. and the answers that were given was a joke too....EVERYBODY knows clinton wont have troops out in 6 month so another lie from her...EVERYBODY knows REV WRIGHT will be the thorn in obama side..i'll be so glad when all this is over and we vote for a president cos this has already gotten dirty, petty and really boring now....personally i nominate anderson for prez!!!!!

Fay, CA   April 16th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Why isn't anything being done to improve the state of the Congo's airport and airplanes so that these accidents won't continue to occur?

Liz in Pennsylvania   April 16th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Hello Anderson and Bloggers! WOW! Was that a debate or an Unjuried Trial?? I felt that the moderators had NO respect for the candidates. They were attacking the candidates as though the candidates had attacked the moderators. It was the worst debate I have EVER seen. The other debates CNN held were professional and precise. The CNN questions were intelligent where each candidate was able to discuss the questions and give information that gave you insight into each candidate. The debate tonight was no debate. It seems that most have the same opinion. Charles and George should NEVER be allowed to do a debate again.

Jolene   April 16th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Hi Erica: It's amazing what all the "buzz" stories do to those voters who don't follow the candidates like those of us who do. They have misconceptions and aren't necessarily aware of all the facts. However, things like the "bitter" statements, pastor statements, and lies about what happened while landing in Bosnia do affect them. At least this is what I've concluded from those "Water Cooler" discussions at work with my coworkers.

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Wow! 4 people are alive!! They are lucky to alive safe from crash in Congo......... They are miracles! good job congo get people out that plane!

Michael   April 16th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

The debate this evening was spirited, in my opinion.

Brian Persaud   April 16th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Peanut> Agreed. "Elitist" has no correlation to wealth, its an attitude. None of the candidates are middle-class Americans.

kathleen   April 16th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

How come Obama gets critized for not wearing a flag pin and Clinton doesn't? Has she worn one at all through this whole election process
I don't think wearing a flag pin says you are patriotic.

Terry, Texas   April 16th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

look at how many pictures of Warren Jeffs are on the walls

Kriss   April 16th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

Erica,

What were you and Kevin laughing about on the webcam?

Barry   April 16th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

Anderson,

I have noted that there is no coverage or questioning of the men involved in this polygamy case. I have no doubt in my mind that the mothers really care for their children, but I think the men are the perpetrators of this alleged crime yet still I don't see them making an attempt to defend themselves. These men have inscribed this polygamous and incentious ideology in the women minds.

The men are using the women to get back the children. I like your work a lot, so please find a way to interview the men who are involved in this and get their answers to these important questions.

Minou, New York City   April 16th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

I saw Marilyn giving a tour of her house and and interview to Larry King. It was a fascinating look into their lives.
No matter what is going on in those camps. It's mothers separated from their kids, kids separated from their mothers! They are hurting.

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

there's not much diff. between Obama and Hillary on policy. The real debates begin this summer.

That woman sounds like Anna Nicole Smith in a way...haha

Becca   April 16th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

All of these women from this polygamist sect seem to talk in the same manner, a creepy little girl tone that is symptomatic of cases of children who have been abused.

Kim   April 16th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Some of these women scare me, they sound so passive and lifeless and everything they say sounds so scripted.....

Lesli   April 16th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Wow, just joined in the blog, missed the debate and turned on the show late tonight – comments look very nasty.

Just mentioning – please everyone needs to shake hands and exit the boxing ring. Time out guys and gals.

Shane, Kentucky   April 16th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

I think the internet is an excellent information tool in its infancy. Future generations are/will grow up with the information overload and learn to sift through it all to make informed decisions. Blogs and such are mind boggling to my parents, but it will become natural to our children to throw out the garbage and make use of the useful knowledge that can be gained on the internets.

Brian Persaud   April 16th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Sweet Jesus. The more footage I see of the FLDS compound, the more it feels like a really elaborate April Fool's joke.

Liz in Pennsylvania   April 16th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Where was Hillary's Flag pin??

Zenta, New York, NY   April 16th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

As Anderson points out, the lady seems clearly to be forced to do this tour by others, i.e., her supervisors.

Kathy   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

That compound is a scary place and so are the woman who live there.

Jose. Y   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Its amazing how the CNN was able to gain voluntary access to this polygamist house.

Angelique   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Oh, yes. two hours. What a way to spend the evening. I can be on the treadmill the whole time and I wont even notice.

Anderson, good grief, can somebody answer what part the fathers are taking in this whole deal. Arent they the ones who should be getting questions?

Fay, CA   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

It's disturbing how these FLDS mothers go on and on about how much they love their children, yet they don't seem to have a problem with them being abused in the name of their "religion".

Saera El Paso, TX   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

this footage is just a bit fake feeling...
again

Mary H. St. Louis, MO   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Erica – most defintely cyberspace and the proliferation of news keeps even small stories out there in the media. Overall, I think a good thing.

Two hours of AC360... what a treat for a Wed night.

I applaud the pope in admitting things were handled wrong. Maybe that will mean future issues will get handled properly. We can only hope.

Maureen T   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

This woman is after the sympathy vote. I just feel sorry for her and all of the women and children of this sect. Not sympathetic though...

Teresa, Kent, OH   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

ummmmmm, DID we just get a tour of a polygamist closet and "this is the back yard with grass that the children can play on?"

Elke, SW Florida   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Erica,
the truth about candidates sometimes seems to be diluted; but then will we ever be told the whole truth?
The more information there is out, the more you are influenced by it and sometimes it is difficult to "separate the wheat from the chaff".

Leslie   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

I have to say I am disappointed with the debate. The line of questions were absurd and not reflective of the issues that concern me or any of the folks I talk to everyday. It is sad.....

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

@Linda: I understand that, but the problem Obama ran into is when he linked it with guns when he was talking about the working class PA voters. That put a negative spin on it.

Yvonne   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Obama is a great teacher. Politicians and pundits have been keeping America in the dark for years. They treat us and talk to us like we're children and we don't get it. Obama speaks the truth and helps us understand the behind the scenes of political campaigns and Washington. He makes us want to get up and do something.

Latanya, Tampa Fl   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Hi Erica,
No, I don't think that the on line activity hurts voters; I think ignorance hurts voters! We have gotten so far away from what really matters in this election ... I am waiting to see when my husband will be returning to Iraq. I have a 12 year old daughter. I don't think either of us care about the tabloid politics that is taking over.

Erica Hill
CNN

Becca, I agree... it is eerie

Jacqui Chan   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Though I am empathetic towards the mothers involved in the raid because the were raised in this society and don't know anything else, I would like to hear how a mother would respond if someone where to ask her, "How would you feel if your son(s) were to become one of the lost boys and you would never hear from him again!"

Pat   April 16th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Are these polygamists on some kind of drugs – they all sound like they are on something or they are heavily scripted.

carmen   April 16th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

and where are all the macho men who husband all these wives?

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Clean home. Have they found "Sarah"? I hope they do.

Great to see a different view of this story with this video.

Terri   April 16th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

These women seem like programmed robots.

John   April 16th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Just wanted to say that as a voter I am furious with how this debate was moderated tonight. I can't believe the first full 50 minutes were spent talking about who said what and who knew what, etc. I understand some of these topic deserve questions, but as a voter I am more interested in hearing presidential canidates debate actual issues. I can't believe we were talking about flag pins.

DeniseGA   April 16th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

@Janice

I beg to differ, most people are very familair with Hillary, which is why they won't vote for her, nor trust her!

Jolene   April 16th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I agree Anderson, that video was very interesting. You still have to wonder where all the money comes from, that looked like a very well made home, the sewing machines alone must have cost a pretty penny.

Sahira   April 16th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

I kind of feel bad for the women in this compound. They are ruled by their husbands as well as the church leaders. They have very little control over their own lives. Their children are as important to them as to any other mother. Now they are gone.

Abby   April 16th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

All these women talking to reporters is just strange for lack of a better word. They claim to be desperate to get their children back, yet they are so calm. Usually when children are taken from their mothers, the mothers are hysterical. These women show no emotion. They avoid all questions regarding the age they were when they got married, and the ones who do answer always say either 20 or 21 so it seems like everything they say is planned. Even the mother crying at the end of the segment on 360 did not seem sincere.

Angela, Virginia   April 16th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Where are the kids TOYS?

She sounded so fake to me. Soft spoken to the point of nausea.

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Do the women have to show their marriage licenses?

Terry, Texas   April 16th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Anderson,
I agree with Bonnie, Keep away from plane, I am worry about you!

Dave   April 16th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Not only do the women from the polygamist sect talk like little girls they also side step the question: "Do you permit underage girls to marry?"
They side step the questions so skillfully you'd think they're running for public office.

greg   April 16th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

why cannot my well thought, intelligent, sincere comments not be posted?

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

State has no evidence without the girl that called as that was their probable cause to enter the compound.

Can't wait to hear from the attorney.

Nice haircut AC.

Ryan, Illinois   April 16th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

In response to Erica Hill's question, I think a lot of the online information actually helps the debate, whereas the simplification and dramatizations of issues like "bitter-gate" on television have hurt the process. At least online, those looking to become politically informed can find real information.

Anderson Cooper
CNN
  April 16th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Barry, you are absolutely right to notice no men around. its not a coincidence. In these communities the men are firmly in charge, and it would be interesting to know who came up with the plan of putting the mothers infront of cameras.

Angelique   April 16th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

I guess I was too busy typing to hear but are we going to hear what happens in the courtroom? Any of it live?

Pat   April 16th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

If polygamy is illegal, why doesn't law enforcement arrest the men – why is allowed to continue

Adam   April 16th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

"All of these women from this polygamist sect seem to talk in the same manner, a creepy little girl tone that is symptomatic of cases of children who have been abused."

Agreed. It's also very strange that earlier they were dodging any questions about where their husbands/the girls fathers were. Also, I found the portraits of what looked to be men (or the same man) on every wall of every room in the house slightly disturbing; but with that said it looked like a pretty standard home. And why wouldn't it be?

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Anderson you look like your going to pounce......like a tiger :P

carmen   April 16th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

why aren't the fathers (as few as they may ) for these hundreds of children speaking up

Peb, Valley Village, California   April 16th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Anderson, I find the voices of the polygamous wives very creepy. They all sound the same. It is as if they are under some type of spell, mind control, or on drugs..."the Stepford Wives".

EJ - Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

I think most of the women will get the children back who are under 12 or so.

The children in the 12-16 age range would need to be monitored...

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   April 16th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Is their proof that all 416 children were abused? Or is the states case charging the parents with abuse in allowing marriage between children and adults.

Angela, Virginia   April 16th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

These mothers need to be deprogrammed. They speak like robots, hollow and without emotion. It seems like a planned and programmed dialog. You know, in case of invasion: say this...

Jennifer   April 16th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

The fact that these women are so emotionally/socially distant seems to be more a result of living in such a radical environment compared to ours. They sound so similar and like each other, more like a pastor or clergy than an individualized person...

ronnb   April 16th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

First they refused to talk with anyone from the outside world, and especially reporters. Now that they feel they have to, they are trying to use the very medium they have criticised as the devil.

The 3 or 4 polygomists I've heard on CNN in the last few days all sound completely scripted, and unfortunately for them, they sound like they are reading and they are terrible actors. I believe their going on television is only hurting their case. Hearing them read their scripts is almost comical until we all consider the tragic allegations of mass sexual abuse of teenagers and children.

Teresa, Kent, OH   April 16th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

If these women go to court to demand the return of their children how will they prove which ones are theirs? I doubt that the chiidren even know who their birth mothers are. All I can say is that they are going to keep a lot CSIs busy.

Carmen, I've been wondering the same thing about the fathers - why arent they speaking up and voicing concern? It's interesting to only offer up the women to speak.

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

alright, I believe the mother's are hurting, but the children are going to be continuously hurt over the years. as a mother, im disgusted that they let their children be abused in that manner.

yes the women are victims too, but they are adults and can make a choice. the children cannot make a choice legally. they must be protected and the situation must be investigated fully.

does anyone really believe they are going to admit this caller exists? they say it is impossible, i say it is easy to blend her in with the rest and hide her.

Talk about not respecting the people of Florida and Michigan!
What does he care... he acts like he does...Obama does not care!
He is a child of Wright his mentor of Twenty Years!
Telling us today he did not know how Wright felt..is an insult to the American People's minds!

Terry, Texas   April 16th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

the attorney is being very careful to choose his words...I hope that the police have the girl safely hidden away to only use her if necessary.

Kim   April 16th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

They want people in the compound to be seen as victims of government intrusion into peoples' privacy, so it makes sense for them to just send forward the mothers, play for the viewers' sympathy and hide the men.

Adam   April 16th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Excellent questions, Anderson!

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

If the court determines that the searches were illegal does that mean that the authorities have to forget they ever saw the pregnant 13 year old girls?

Sue   April 16th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

It is interesting that these women look identical -their dresses, their haircuts...it reminds me of this really old movie with Rock Hudson.....can't remember the name.
Sue Canada

Jennifer NC   April 16th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Angelique, when Larry King interviewed the FDLS women they are showing earlier tonight he asked repeatedly where their husbands were (the fathers) they completely ignored the question over and over.
They clearly have a set list of things they can discuss and that's it.
They all continue to claim they were 20 or 21 when they got married. The woman giving the tour certainly didn't look old enough to have had that girl after she was 21.

Sahira   April 16th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

What action, if any will the state take against all men in the sect if they talk with the media?

Abby   April 16th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

The attorney is trying to relate the removal of children from a normal home when abuse is suspected, but this case is different b/c it seems like all these people live together. So what is the actual home? The compound itself? If that is the case then the State can remove them all from the compound.

Saera El Paso, TX   April 16th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

um... i don't really believe Mr. Parker
at all

angie tn   April 16th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

have they found sexual or any other abuse on the children??? If not the children should go back with their mothers

Kelly   April 16th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

The privacy of this issue is rather creepy. Everything feels so hidden.

Jolene   April 16th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

You go Anderson! However, I don't think the men are taking a back seat in all this. They are influencing these women to talk.

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Exactly. Without substantiation, it is going to incense the public when these kids go back.

Because they do not have corroborating evidence, they cannot arrest any men until they have evidence, in DNA or testimony form, to prove they are raping underage girls.

Shane, Kentucky   April 16th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Isn't it easy to say she doesn't exist when the birth certificates are all inaccurate? Didn't they say it was difficult to figure out the names and ages of the children?

Sahira   April 16th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Rod Parker~
"How do we know if the women don't make their own decisions there?"

Wow, 400+ cases...it's going to be total chaos tomorrow.

Abby   April 16th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Anderson...we ARE hearing from the men. It seems like the men are sitting behind all the cameras when these women are being interviewed.

Kathy   April 16th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

The woman decided on their own to talk to the reporters! Ya right.

Convincing "OK" there Anderson!

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

It is obvious that these women have been trained to say what they are saying. They say exactly the same thing no matter who interviews them. They never deviate from the script.

Brian Persaud   April 16th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Rod Parker, I agree with you in brining up the point that some mothers would consent. But I think the FLDS members are indeed using the women to deal with the media to gain sympathy. Its too bad for them, that it comes off more "creepy" than "sad".

Minou, New York City   April 16th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Anderson: so what if the men came up with the plan?
They have multiple wives. Clearly it's the women only caring for those kids. They have different family structures then we do. Seems like rural Afghanistan to me....

Taylor- Chicago   April 16th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

I just don't understand why this group who was so secretive is now willing to go on the news and talk about their lives. I get that they miss their kids but honestly.. all those moms seem pretty crazy. And not even having birth certificates and 16 year olds pregnant?! That whole situation is disgusting and unacceptable!

JP   April 16th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

I agree totally with what a few woman have said earlier in the blog- the mainstream media mainly CNN trashes Hillary. I am a conservative, been a staunch critic of the Clintons for 16 years and I actually feel sorry for her. Today, I donated a small contribution to her campaign to keep it going and encouraged my other conservative friends to do so. I think she would do alot less damage than Obama. He scares me. I believe wholeheartedly that if Obama were not in this race Hillary would be CNN and the mainstream media's little darling. It is so blatently obvious the media is infatuated with Obama.

I find it difficult to believe that the FLDS women make ANY of their own decisions–they seem completely subserviant and docile–the men are controlling them.

poor Anderson

The mother in your polygamist story seemed as if she was in pain. The pain of losing her child was real. Everything else she did on the "tour" was very unnatural. She is in my opinion a pawn used for a public opinion compaign. Where are the men! Their disappearance is questionable in my mind about the true role of this community. I feel bad for them all........their world is coming down around them.

I don't for a moment believe the women are acting on their own. We really haven't ever gotten much of a clue about the posturing or viewpoint of the men other than a few sound bites here and there (and, of course, Jeffs). I really want to know how much control, even mind control, is going on. From my perspective, it simply looks like methodical brainwashing from the moment a child can process words.

Tony   April 16th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Anderson,

You are right, it is a calculated move to put the mothers in front of the cameras. They know the most compassionate response will come because of them, and not the men.

Kevin Leo from Jonesboro, GA   April 16th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

I have little respect for any lawyer who tries to protect a bunch of pedophiles!!! I know that everyone has a legal right to fair representation but I would just as soon not waste a second on anyone who abuses a child!!!!

RC Lendz Philadelphia, PA   April 16th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Before Anderson gets to the topic next: here is what I saw. Obama was weak. He was asked about a political-election questionaire he filled out when he ran for office in 1996. On this questionaire, he was asked about a ban on handguns, and said that would support the ban. Obama snapped, and I mean snapped back by saying by saying that he never wrote that. Did he mean that he didn't fill out the questionaire, or that he lied tonight?

Melinda   April 16th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

I think it speaks volumns when some of the woman say their children are 18+. No one says their child's age is 18+. That is very fishy.

Angelique   April 16th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Jennifer, I noticed that. Also, in the girls room she said something like 'I take care of these girls'. What does that mean?

Anderson, thanks for trying on the men issue.

Jennifer NC   April 16th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

That did not look like a home -it looked like a very bleak dormitory. It did not look like kids live there at all (except for child size beds and chairs). Everything monochromatic, no toys, games, It all seems geared to crowd control more than anything else.

Adam   April 16th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Woohoo headlines with Erica!

Zing-Zing, Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Are we sure that it is the men who are prohibiting the women from saying certain things? Could it be that these women like their lifestyle so much that themselves want to continue as before without any more legal interference? Could it be that the women have more power than we think they do?

EJ - Ohio   April 16th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Does that whole "fruit of the poisonous tree" rule really apply to child abuse cases? Even if there were issues with the search they can't just throw those children back based on legal technicalities can they? What does Toobin say?

Slater   April 16th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Anderson:

Thanks for getting the legal angle from an attorney. This is important so that the public understands the judicial process and how it will likely be applied in this case.

I am shocked at the behavior of authorities that they used guns and tanks around innocent children. This was unprofessional dramatically reckless endangerment of these children.

Stephanie Martinez   April 16th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

How are these guys any different from the the perverts on Dateline's "...predators"?! If they don't think they did anything wrong why were the children shuffled and hidden from building to building during the raid? Why did their leader take off if he didn't do anything wrong??!!

Linda   April 16th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Pat, 1st how do you forgot Bosnia when you wrote about it? Also, misspeaing once, fine, but 3 times? Tonight she said out right that she lied. 2nd, what did Obama deny after being caught? 3rd, if you research, the person who taped the fundraiser said that it was not a room full of wealthy people (even though that's beside the point). Finally, its a bit telling when the first half of a debate is spent asking questions to one candidate. Why didn't ask about Clinton's 10M in donations to their own foundation? or Penn, or even Clinton's 800K from Columbia? Fair is fair, right?

Jacqui Chan   April 16th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

I learned that the airport reported on this evening frequently has serious accidents, one contributing factor I'm sure is what Anderson mentioned, that they only have half of a runway to run on. Does anyone know if there is a segment of their government that is designated for air travel?

Kim G. from Canada   April 16th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

Re: Anderson's blog to Barry.

That was going to be my next blog comment. Where are all the men of the community in all this FLDS? Most men, with any integrity, would have stepped up to the plate. The FLDS male absence speaks volumes.

Amy Fiel   April 16th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

As an escapee of the LDS church I feel for the mothers; they truly do love their children. However, the patriarchical rule does not allow the women to speak out against the male leaders in anyway and as a result children are often sexually abused. I think the children should be protect at all costs; there truly is NO ONE within the compound to speak for them.

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

JP above is right on the money. Hillary is known quantity – Obama 's socialist views and character and affiliations scare me. He's drawn to very very strong mentors – Tony Reczko, Rev. Wright, Jackson, Sharpton. He lets them take the fall while he stands wide-eyed, taking himself out of the equation. Sory but that's the mark of a socialist.

Maybe ABC News should borrow your line "Keeping the Honest".
They asked tough questions to both HC & OB. Only Obama stumbled over his own words and explanations, but he did a bit better later.
What issues do you want them to talk about:
I heard them speak about tax cuts, health care, education, energy jobs, oil companies, gas prices, gun laws, housing/credit crisis, war,
social security, foreign policy with Mid.E and Iran..
The world is watching so please get it right this time and vote for Hillary because it effects all of us globally. We are also angry over gas prices, etc.

I just watched the ABC Presidential Debate and I am absolutely disgusted at the moderators' obvious bias in favor of Hillary Clinton. The moderators spent the first hour dealing with trivia and innuendo rather than focusing on the real issues. It is appalling that ABC would ask a question from Sean Hannity of Fox News and a right-wing radio host. Shame on ABC News for following in the footsteps of Fox News. Shame, shame shame.

"Everything monochromatic, no toys, games, It all seems geared to crowd control more than anything else."

Their culture doesn't do the toys and games thing.. but the kids apparently play in the backyard.

I don't have a problem with how they raise their little kids (& even if I did it wouldn't matter) – just as long as the girls aren't sent to be raped when they hit puberty.

romeo   April 16th, 2008 11:00 pm ET

In reading my previous post, I did NOT mean to infer that the suggestion was from OBAMA – It was not. The comments came from an unnamed author which was sent to my email unsolicited – but it was well articulated and made a lot of sense and addressed some of Rev Wright's comments, Obama's response and the "angry black" community – and at least indirectly the "Bitter working class" community referenced by Obama (and since then quoted totally out of context) during a Q&A session with "wealthy white sophisticated and highly educated" supporters at a private party.

Genevieve M, TX   April 16th, 2008 11:00 pm ET

I think that occasionally having a 2nd hour of 360 is great. I was wondering if it is possible to leave the live web cam on during the evenings that 360 goes live for another hour?

Gary in Kent, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 11:01 pm ET

Zing-zing.........the women may have more control, power and abilities that none of us will ever know, but the pain in that mother was real, nothing else was. The manners she spoke in and the way her body moved were just not real..........that's the true horror of this event, in our society I find it hard to accept that someone has that much control over another person.

Liz in Pennsylvania   April 16th, 2008 11:01 pm ET

To go back to the debate and Obama's comments about small town people being bitter and clinging to guns and religion. I want to tell you that I live in a small town and yes – I find that they DO cling to what they know, live, and believe....which is outdoor living and religion. Salaries are so low and companies are downsizing every day. Not only that, those that are left in those companies have to do the work of 3 people (I kid you not). They (the select rich few) do not want businesses to move in and provide better jobs for the poor people living here because then they will not have the control over the people in the area....they cannot keep paying poor salaries and clipping off benefits. They hire a lot more part-timers figuring they can work them cheaper and w/o benefits

Claire in Birmingham, AL   April 16th, 2008 11:01 pm ET

Tonight we saw a real choice between the old politics of point-scoring and distraction and a politics that focuses on bringing us together to actually solve the challenges we talk about every single election. Continuing the theme of her campaign, Senator Clinton used every single opportunity she had to launch misleading attack after misleading attack against Barack Obama, which is why polls show that most Americans think she’s running the most negative campaign and don’t believe she’s trustworthy. Barack Obama spoke about the issues that actually matter in people’s lives, like how he plans to end the war in Iraq, cut middle-class taxes, help people stay in their homes, and provide a secure retirement for our seniors. That’s why more Americans are putting their trust in Barack Obama to bring about the change we need in Washington.

Kitty Windfield   April 16th, 2008 11:02 pm ET

I have been watching the video of the women of the El Dorado compound...
Is it just me, or are these the 'Stepford Wives' on the hoof...
Blank affect....same voice pitch...robotic mannerisms etc.?
These are ADULT VICTIMS....
I would venture to guess that not a single one has had an indepenent thought, that was not promptly punished for having it.
My heart goes out to ANY devoted Mother who is seperated from her child...
These are not women...They are breeding stock.
They need to be with their children, while BOTH mother and child are gently DEPROGRAMMED....Preferably, with the assistance of those women who have escaped in the past....They will NEVER trust anyone from the outside....
Have they considered doing an infra-red surveillence of the property...?The natural proportion of female to male children is WAY out of the norm...Where did the rest of the male children go?

E. Jones   April 16th, 2008 11:03 pm ET

As one who feels he could support either Clinton or Obama in a general election, I think this vetting process is necessary so that we know who the best candidate is to win in the fall. Tonight I was struck by Clinton's more forthcoming responses to questions on controversies, while Obama seemed to obfuscate somewhat. It's still not clear to me that he has clearly explained his remarks about small town citizens. I still find his explanation not entirely forthcoming and somewhat embellished when compared to what he actually said. Rather than just admit that he made a mistake, instead he continues trying to explain it in different terms when what he said is on the record and is clear. This and other such issues do concern me as to whether or not they affect electability. There are already huge historical obstacles to overcome.

Michelle N San Diego   April 16th, 2008 11:03 pm ET

I think the fathers don't comment on the children because they probably don't even know all of their names or ages. Didn't one of the former FLDS women last week say that her own father thought she was one of his grandchildren & asked her to go home??

Mary H. St. Louis, MO   April 16th, 2008 11:03 pm ET

Yes, Anderson thanks for trying to get the men to speak out. I doubt the men will speak out if they are the ones "spiritually marrying" the underage girls. The court house tomorrow should be interesting. Would like to be a fly on the wall in that courtroom.

Michael   April 16th, 2008 11:04 pm ET

Is the fact that the men are in charge of the FLDS really that big of a deal? After all, its really a religious movement..a theocracy of sorts. Its not like its the only religion dominated by men. This week you have the spiritual leader of the catholic church in the US.. and uh oh, wait a minute... its lead and ruled by men. Women can't be priests, biships, cardinals or the Pope. They have no real say in church doctrine or principles, and by Papal decree, never will.

So while I don't defend the FLDS lifestyle, I don't think that the fact that a religious sect is ruled by men should be all that surprising, even in this day and age.

monique   April 16th, 2008 11:04 pm ET

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 11:05 pm ET

RC Lendz Philadelphia, PA   April 16th, 2008 11:05 pm ET

I agree Carla. I am a strong Clinton supporter, and if there are any other fellow Pennsylvanians here tonight, this debate should have tipped you over to Clinton. Our local news held several different focus groups, college students, people on the fence, strong supporters from both sides, etc. In both the college and fence groups, both were strongly for Clinton. One college student who supports McCain, might switch to Obama. Other college students who were Obamites, switched sides, and still other college students who were on the fence, are now leaning towards Clinton. Come on PA, do what Carla from Canada says: Get it right!!!!!!!!

You know any mother seperated from her child for whatever reason can experience unbelievable heartache. I am a mother of a 6month old and it hard enough just going to work and leaving him. I do sympathize with their pain of not having their children. However I strongly disagree with returning these children to their parents. Any mother or father for that matter that would allow a child as young as 13 years old to engage in any marital activites with a man 50 years old really even18 years old, is disgusting and is not deserving of their parental authority.

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 11:08 pm ET

Your coverage of the FLDS community in Texas and the removal of children is important and very interesting. From the video tonight it is clear that this is an economically prosperous community. The church is large and lavish, the homes also large with up-to-date kitchens, sleeping accommodations, etc. I wish you would address where their money comes from.

Shawn North Carolina   April 16th, 2008 11:11 pm ET

That was the most biased debate I have ever seen they asked Obama why he didn't wear a stinking lapel pin. What kind of question is that? That was a right wing debate set up to swiftboat Obama if I ever seen one. Someone needs to expose that one of the panelist worked for the Clinton admin, and the other was just on fox news I mean fake news, and took notes on what questions to ask.

It's not just the male "ruling" of the religion. It is about the (apparent) absolute power the men assert over the women throughout every aspect of life. I'm obviously making assumptions, but that's the way I see it, for now.

I would like to know why Obama seems to always say it's silly season when he's being asked fair judgement questions like Rev. Wright and the small town PA comments he made? He always talks about same old politics when it's a tuff question but he and his campaigne plays politics frequently.

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 11:14 pm ET

Yen, McCain will be here soon, I think..........

Rochelle   April 16th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

Anderson where is part 2, this is a rerun

Campbell   April 16th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

Nancy – you are so right. I was on the debatge blog earlier, and I stated that I expected Ashton Kutcher to come out and tell America that we'd been punked b/c the debate was ridiculous. :-)

What a tremendous waste of intellectual space!

DeniseGA   April 16th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

I ike him too Patty,

He truly is objective. I like to hear his view on the issues!

RC Lendz Philadelphia, PA   April 16th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

Get over yourself Gergen, she never said he was not electable, she said that she was more electable, bringing more votes together in the fall. If Obama wins the nomination, would you expect Hillary to support McCain like the Democratic turncoat Lieberman?

No, she would toe the party line.

And what has Obama said on this? Nothing!!!!!!! Ask him if she is electable. See what he would say. I have never heard anyone ask him this question and obviously he never volunteered it on his own.

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

why do people keep saying debate didn't cover issues? What didn't they touch on ?

Katherine   April 16th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

This debate tonight reinforces to me why every single night I turn on CNN and Anderson and Erica!

I am disgusted by the way the debate was handled by ABC.

No human is perfect, but Anderson ( CNN ) clearly trys very hard to provide an unbiased report of the facts. Thank you, Thank you.

Nancy   April 16th, 2008 11:17 pm ET

Face it . . . Senator Clinton crushed Senator Obama tonight. Her answers were more thorough and more relevant to middle class Americans. It seems to me the one who is out of touch is David Gergen. It doesn't matter what Senator Clinton says, he's against it. So much for objective journalism! And, about Bosnia . . . it's a "fish story." So she embellished . . . get over it!

Jo Ann, Ohio   April 16th, 2008 11:17 pm ET

@Alvin: I think it is his way of putting the questioners in their place.

Kirby   April 16th, 2008 11:17 pm ET

Anderson,
Regarding the FLDS case in the American west –
I suggest you interview Jon Krakauer who is author of Under the Banner of Heaven, an outstanding book with well-researched insights into the past and current aspects of the FLDS. He refers to the movement as the “American Taliban”, and offers a fascinating exploration of this faith, in which any individual may become the channel for god’s message and actions.
(He is also the author of Into the Wild, the book on which Sean Penn’s recent film was based.)

I was surprised to hear Clinton admit that she lied about Bosnia. Probably the most honesty I have seen from a Clinton since this campaign started.

I have never been part of poll nor has anyone I know. Who is half the country? I live in this country and I didn't get asked if I trust Hillary or like Hillary. To both questions I do. Maybe someone should just stop talking about polls. I think they are just made up by a select few.

JRay   April 16th, 2008 11:18 pm ET

Anderson I live in PA and trust me this Bitter comment does not have legs. I beleive the words could have been better but the fact is its true. I'm tired of the rich get richer and I need someone looking out for me. The question I have is why is CNN looking pro Clinton? You always have Clinton supporter on but no Obama supporter. Why is that? Can you answer that?

Yen   April 16th, 2008 11:18 pm ET

Thanks, Megan. They pushed it to the 2nd hour.

Maybe Clinton and Obama should promise to lower spending so they don't need to raise the taxes on the middle class.

kathleen   April 16th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

I loved Obama's comment on the stay home and bake cookies Hillary how does it fell to have your message construed

Melinda   April 16th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

Xtina- I think people are saying that because they spent the first 45- 1 hour talking about all these non issues, like the 'bitter' comment and the comments about Rev. Wright. They have been talked about ad nauseum and it is a distraction from talking about the real issues that this country is dealing with... economy, health care, Iraq etc.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 11:20 pm ET

CaseyJPS - California   April 16th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

Why is it we can't call politicians liars? Apparently, that's where the media draws the line. I just believe we should say what we mean and mean what we say. Is the act of stating that someone is a liar too brutal? Does the medai avoid it because they're afraid of losing viewers? I know there are those 'unspoken rules' of etiquette, but we are dealing with facts, right? This is the news, right?

Marcia   April 16th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

John (Bomb Bomb Iran) McCain doesn't even wear a Flag on his lapel do you see anybody asking him why he doesn't?

Sahira   April 16th, 2008 11:21 pm ET

Katherine, I completely agree with you. I don't think Anderson (CNN) takes any particular candidate's side.

Kathy, Chicago   April 16th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Half the people think cnn is biased towards Hillary. And half think cnn is biased towards Obama.

Stacy   April 16th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Nancy, say what you want about the candidates, but David Gergen is one of the most thoughtful analysts out there. In a cable news world of yelling partisanship, I'm consistently delighted by his rationality. Out of touch he is not.

Anand Shetty   April 16th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Anderson, I am a regular viewer of your nightly program and it is a great progam. I have two comments on today's program. Some of your so called best political team do not come to be impartial in their analysis of the situations pertaining to Clinton-Obama campaign and the debtate. Are they supposed to be impartial? Do you choose the team according to their bias? Burried deep inside their analysis and comments is a consistent expression of their bias against Clinton, though they do not make it look obvious.

I have watched the debates and campaign for a long time. I find Obama immature and lacking judgement. He does not have the knowledge and the gravity needed to lead this country. I don't think he is electible at this stage. He may have to wait for a few more years.

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

You're kindly welcome, Yen........

Martha R. Thomas   April 16th, 2008 11:22 pm ET

Like millions of others, I watched the Democratic debate tonight, very much enjoying it, thinking it well moderated, thinking both candidates clearly expressed themselves. In short, I enjoyed the debate. Immediately upon it ending, I switched to CNN and your program, Mr Cooper. I was angered by your negative attitude towards Clinton. You and your guest so often seem to be unfairly negative towards her. And David Gergen – Ha! He is so opinated.. I'm thinking of deserting CNN simply because of your unfair reporting.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 11:23 pm ET

Anderson,

Hi! I'm glad to see you are blogging for two hours tonight. I've enjoyed CNN's coverage of Pope Benedict's US visit this late afternoon and evening. I missed the Clinton/Obama debate–it's great to see your highlights and in-depth discussion.

RC Lendz Philadelphia, PA

Tonight she finally said (after dancing around the issue for a couple of minutes) that yes Obama was electable.

When they asked Obama if she was he said – absolutely.

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

anyone moderating that debate would have led off with the "clinging to guns" and rev Wright issues just to get them out of the way! Both of those issues define Obama's character and are fair game

Esther Salinas   April 16th, 2008 11:24 pm ET

Remember that Jeremiah wright went with Farakhan to meet Kadafy in Lybia. eventhough, i was just a kid in the 80's, I still remember injured Marines being rushed out in stretchers. I find this offensive and that's why i don't trust Obama and his associates. Many died in this incident during the Reagan administration.

Angela, Virginia   April 16th, 2008 11:25 pm ET

Jray: Do you watch regularly? I do not see the show as pro Clinton–at all. IN fact I have seen accusations from both sides saying the same thing about CNN and this show in particular...but that can't be now can it? I love this show because they DO cover it 360 degrees. ALL points of view. It is the best way to get unbiased information.

What really sad about this particular polygamist sect is that whether they get their children back or not, I guarantee the "husbands" and remaining "wives" are going to replenish their sect with more children. What's worst I seriously doubt that the government will return and raid the compound again taking any and all new children. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if they had already commenced.

Mike from Syracuse NY   April 16th, 2008 11:26 pm ET

Obama keeps wanting to put Wright, bittergate, his association with terrorists, etc. behind him and get to the issues. His refusal to come clean IS an issue. He talks about his superior judgemnent. These things clearly put his judgement into question. Too bad so many Americans are falling for the act. I don't want him answering the phone at 3 in the afternoon, let alone 3 AM.

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 11:27 pm ET

Obama clearly lost tonight. He is always so defensive and seems like he can't stand debates. Well wake up Obama, you will get creamed in the fall debates. I can't wait to see him fail.

Silly season? It's politics. Answer the questions and move on. If you did not want to answer "silly" questions Barack, do not run for President.

Where have you been hiding for the last 30+ years of your political life? Every question is important to some of the voters.

Wake up Barack, his supporters, and the Obamedia.

Hello everyone,
I must say that HRC came up on top of Sen. Obama. Yet I also believe that it will only be marginal her performance.
At least she a)called for party unity by uniting with the winner and b)admitted that she was wrong in her Bosnia flap. That speaks good to her.
As for Sen. Obama, I could not connect with his combative style that only tried to deflect from the issues that were being asked

David in Boston   April 16th, 2008 11:32 pm ET

as a typical white person who clings to her religion, I have nevr felt such a divisive force as I have with Obama. He has insulted Americans by dismissing our American flag; dividing out a member of HIS OWN FAMILY as a typical white person and now dividing out rural Pennsylvanians by judging them as clinging and too religious. He's a divider not a uniter

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 11:33 pm ET

I'm a Demacrat but i do respect this man as an American Heroe. I love my country and wish i was healthy to fight with my brothers and sisters of all ethnicity because we are all Americans. Eventhough, I'm against the war, i would fight for the sake of our people needlessly dying.

keena   April 16th, 2008 11:34 pm ET

Is it just me or does a younger John McCain sort of resemble a young Marlon Brando?

Minou, New York City   April 16th, 2008 11:36 pm ET

McCain was kind of cute when he was young...

Rebecca   April 16th, 2008 11:36 pm ET

keena, too funny yes.... a young Marlon Brando

EJ - Ohio   April 16th, 2008 11:36 pm ET

I've seen a lot on all of the candidates – especially since McCain ran before. I always find these segments interesting. McCain was very handsome in his day – He still is.

Elke, SW Florida   April 16th, 2008 11:36 pm ET

I don't know what anybody else is thinking, but I can't help the feeling that John McCain is not a sincere man. He may have been a POW in Vietnam, but he just comes across so untrustworthy at times. And I think he is too old for the job! And this country does not need 'Bush – round 3'. Okay, I am getting off his back now ...

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 11:36 pm ET

young john mccain is pretty easy on the eyes, but that's a bonus to his great patriotism and service to our country

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 11:37 pm ET

Thanks Katherine!!!!! I agree with you!

getyourgunAnnie   April 16th, 2008 11:37 pm ET

I've read her book where she writes about Bosnia. She told the truth in her book. I believe she knows she made a mistake and she apologized. Kudos to her for that. Obama is flustered and wishes he was in San Francisco.

Jolene   April 16th, 2008 11:37 pm ET

Who would have figured that McCain liked to party? It's interesting to see how he's aged throughout the years. Thanks for this Erica / 360, I appreciate learning about the candidates like this. It is helping me see the candidates in a different light (especially those of us who haven't decided who to support yet).

Alvin   April 16th, 2008 11:38 pm ET

@JRay ... I'm from PA but I don't cling to a gun or my religon in tough times.

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 11:38 pm ET

yay Erica! I'll be watching for the bobble head tomorrow, if I'm home from classes in NOLA soon enough. :)

I'm loving the McCain piece. An earlier post asks why no one is asking him why he doesnt wear a lapel pin, my opinion, he was a POW, the ultimate patriot, dont even attempt to discredit that.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 11:38 pm ET

Who's pulled the short straw and got the Ralph Nader piece HAHA :P

Melinda   April 16th, 2008 11:39 pm ET

I'm not an Obama supporter but I don't think he should be faulted for not wearing a label pin of the flag. Most people don't and I don't think it means he isn't patriotic. There are far more important issues regarding all the candidates than a flag lapel pin. If someone chooses to do so that's fine but why should someone be made to wear one to proclaim their patriotism?

Jana, Indiana   April 16th, 2008 11:39 pm ET

So Erica, maybe you can get Anderson to bobble his head to the music tomorrow night. ha

Rebecca   April 16th, 2008 11:39 pm ET

he seems sincere to me... I want to know who he'll pick for his running mate?? Someone that will be fantastic for the economy perhaps?

Fay, CA   April 16th, 2008 11:39 pm ET

360's in depth profiles of the candidates so far have been excellent–I've already watched last night's Obama piece twice and although I'm not a McCain supporter, I'm finding the report on him really interesting.

Katherine   April 16th, 2008 11:39 pm ET

Christina and Sahira - thanks for the affirmation. I was wondering if I was the only one who loves to watch Anderson and Erica "converse".

Phil of Guadalupe, Ca.   April 16th, 2008 11:40 pm ET

I would like to find out who were the people that Barack Obama was saying the Bitter remarks to in the Bay Area? All I know is that the person who broke the news was an Obama supporter and was very reluctant to break the story.

Elke, I think I'm with you. His pandering to the extreme Right and the recent Shia/Sunni mess ups are disturbing.

Theresa   April 16th, 2008 11:41 pm ET

Overall, I was disappointed by the debate. It was tabloid and not topic.

I did think Hillary was combative and avoided direct questions. obama looked nervous for the first time. Basically, the whole affair sucked.

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 11:42 pm ET

Im sorry, McCain just seems to have so much integrity and honor. He seems so sincere and passionate, loves him!

Esther Salinas   April 16th, 2008 11:42 pm ET

It.s kind of Ironic though that obama mentioned "Bitterness" clinging to guns and faith on a state where the constitution was signed protecting those very rights. I just thought about it and was'nt him a constitutional teacher.

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 11:42 pm ET

I agree with Jana...... :)

Jolene   April 16th, 2008 11:43 pm ET

It would be interesting if 360 did similar pieces on the candidate's spouses. Bill, Cindy, and Michelle. You know stuff we haven't already heard or seen.

Kathy, Chicago   April 16th, 2008 11:43 pm ET

Nice piece, Erica! He has been tested in many ways.

Mary H. St. Louis, MO   April 16th, 2008 11:44 pm ET

Erica,

We wouldn't dare turn off yet. Not on a 2 hour AC360 night. Good piece on McCain.

You know we are all feeling the pain with higher prices for food but I didn't even think about how developing or thrird world countries are impacted. Hopefully the world bank will be able to help out.

Do you think in our lifetime we can turn the whole energy crisis around (meaning everyone truly changing our habits to conserve, finding viable alternative engergy sources, etc etc).

EJ - Ohio   April 16th, 2008 11:44 pm ET

I remember what the Republicans did to McCain in 2000. That was very nasty. I would never trust them if I were him but I guess he felt he had to forgive. They really tore into his family.

Great pieces on Obama and McCain. Even though I may not like her, I can't wait to see the Hillary piece. I am sure it will be just as good.

xtina, chicago IL   April 16th, 2008 11:46 pm ET

Obama looks down on Americans. The "clinging to religion" comments are another example of this. Can you imagine Ronald Reagan making such a statement?

Lorie Ann I agree!

Phil of Guadalupe, Ca.   April 16th, 2008 11:47 pm ET

Ester,
You are totally right, John McCain is a bonafide war hero. No if ands or buts.
The only thing that bothers me from him is the fact of the Lincoln Savings and Loan deal better known as the "Keating five" which I will assume will rise up when he gets nominated in september if not before.

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 11:48 pm ET

Good night Liz!

Why you don't wear the flag? the question was..Obama's answer..a bunch of empty words...yet the people buy this?unbelievable!!! how can some people have such empty heads.. We are really desperate..
He says the American are smarter than thinking this>give us a break

I love Hillary saying she has a lot of baggage and everyone has rummage thru it!! Yes Yes yes we know who lHillary is..We do not know who Obama is! and who is he? A man that talks much but says nothing. He is like Jones..very convincing and his followers drank the Kool aid..and we all know the results of his good talk...
The little bit that I can leave my country, my family, my friends, neighbors and the little bit that I can do for my country is support the troops until they come home ( Which I hope is soon) Love my family and firend and definately not vote for Obama

Lesli   April 16th, 2008 11:50 pm ET

Jana and Brandi

You've given me an idea – they should make bobble heads dolls of Erica and AC.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   April 16th, 2008 11:51 pm ET

Well worth the 2 hours of 360 tonight.

Lordy I never pictured Hillary as a brunette. Oh she said no.....why did she not stick with her first instinct :P

EJ - Ohio   April 16th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

Nice segment on McCain Erica!

Sahira   April 16th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

Erica, loved the piece on McCain. Very informative.

Rachel   April 16th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

It seemed to me that the three commentators were leaning strongly toward Obama based on the positives and the negatives that they commented on for each candidate.
I really dislike the fact that Hillary did not give a true account of the
"bombing issue." That was not smart – though she is a very intelligent woman. I believe she could be a good and caring president.
However, when it took Obama twenty years to decide to walk away from the beliefs of a pastor that believes what his pastor believes, that man can't be vey smart. And, if he were not in a political battle, would he still be "worshipping" in this man's church? I am very concerned.

Greg, Cincinnati   April 16th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

Nice report on skyrocketing food costs worldwide. As a logistics professional I'd caution you from citing transportation costs as a key contributor. Transportation service costs in the US and throughout the world have remained static or gone down in the past year. The real contributor is diesel cost. World diesel demand and run-away crude are causing diesel to hit new highs almost weekly. As a result, fuel surcharges charged by transportation providers keep rising with it.

I find it laughable to see The World Bank asking world powers to subsidize food prices. When we will we quit chasing the effect, and take measures to deal with the cause? Crude, crude, crude!

Lilibeth   April 16th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

Erica, thanks so much for the profile on Mr. McCain! There was a lot of information there I didn't know before! Your report was very eye-opening. Thank you!

Jana, Indiana   April 16th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

I agree with Jo Ann, Ohio. Erica you did a great piece on McCain.

Glad to see Anderson is doing the Hillary piece tomorrow night. That should be interesting.

Good night all

Sarah   April 16th, 2008 11:52 pm ET

Erica Hill for the win!!1!11!

carmen   April 16th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

Miranda, why don't McCain and Clinton wear the flag?

Sarah, Atlanta GA   April 16th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

Erica, great job with the McCain piece. I hope we will see more reports from you in the furute. You're a really good journalist.

Yen   April 16th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

Great job, Erica. No matter who I end up voting for I have nothing but deep respect for John McCain.

Patty   April 16th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

I think campaign finance reform was Mccain's act of contrition after the
Keating scandal.

Steven-Hixson,TN   April 16th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

It's great to see you guys doing stuff on John McCain. He was my first choice for President because I thought there was no way Obama would ever get this far.McCain is a man worthy of all America's respect, regardless of differences of opinion. He says what he believes in his heart to be the best course for America and it's hard to say that about most politicians. My views are more in line with Obama's vision of our country's future, but should Obama fail to secure the nomination of the Democratic party,I will return to my first choice.Senator John McCain,a true American icon.

Brandi down the bayou.   April 16th, 2008 11:53 pm ET

k, maybe ill make sure to be late getting out of class tomorrow night. Im kinda scared of that first picture I saw. :)

Jean Meyers, Atlanta, GA   April 16th, 2008 11:54 pm ET

hey when are you guys bringing back the AC360 passport covers?

Sandy Huber   April 16th, 2008 11:54 pm ET

To Martha and others in remarks regarding the biased media...Think back when Obama won in Iowa. Hillary was already being made a casualty of the presidential campaign as the press consolidated its supportive coverage of Barack. When Hillary won in New Hampshire, the media was shocked but not quite owning of its mistake regarding that primary. Remember the debates and the bombardment of questions to Hillary as the field of her running mates received a more civil treatment. Finally when the field was two, it took Saturday Night Live before the press crafted a more moderated coverage of Hillary that lasted about a week before returning to a more belligerent and aggressive coverage of her versus Barack. Hillary went the distance when she was first lady with health care, Whitewater, Monica, and a number of other issues. Hillary now has to go the distance with a biased press. Hillary can certainly go the distance in the White House for eight years...

Megan Dresslar   April 16th, 2008 11:55 pm ET

Me too! Lilibeth :P

Lesli   April 16th, 2008 11:55 pm ET

Loved the McCain piece Erica – great work.

Jolene   April 16th, 2008 11:55 pm ET

Thanks Erica: I guess I did see those profiles of the spouses but they didn't seem as in depth.

Thanks for the 2 hour 360 blogging tonight (even though AC doesn't blog as much as Erica does).

Nite all.

Phil of Guadalupe, Ca.   April 16th, 2008 11:56 pm ET

Just one thought to the Obama defenders before I leave: Had HRC said those same verbatum remarks in a secret speech, then would anyone of them be willing to come out and defend her so strongly as they are Sen. Obama? The answer is all but obvious...
Thanks Anderson for putting this line open for two hours. May I suggest that it be put up again like this next Tuesday?
Phil

Good night Anderson and everyone!

Lesli   April 16th, 2008 11:57 pm ET

I liked the two hour format but it has cut in my time to solve the suduko and crossword puzzels before signing off for the night.

Will this become a regular thing? I think the show used to be two hours didn't it?

lpfoong, Malaysia   April 16th, 2008 11:58 pm ET

Can you put the Planet in Peril pieces in the first hour, please ?International viewers don' t get to watch them.

Great fun tonight.....good night Anderson, Erica and bloggers. see you tomorrow

Yvonne   April 16th, 2008 11:58 pm ET

I'm almost certain that if Obama was white and had the name Barry O'Reilly, we would not be wondering who he is and questioning him so much.

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   April 16th, 2008 11:59 pm ET

Good night. The blog was good tonight. Much more on topic than some nights. Nothing like ending the eve with a gator in a car..Night all
