Tonight on 360°, another campaign controversy.  At issue, a sermon given by Barack Obama’s minister at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.  Barack Obama has already distanced himself from his pastor, but he’s also called him his spiritual advisor.  Tonight, we’ll show you the sermon and let you decide.

We’ll also have a story we’ve been promising for a few days: An up close look at Michelle Obama, and we’ll bring you the new developments in the Florida and Michigan primary mess.

And, oh yeah, Eliot Spitzer. Can’t forget him.

I want to mention this again: We’ve been getting complaints about how long it takes to post some comments.   We wish we could post them all, but with more than 1000 every night, it is not possible.

Here’s a tip: shorter comments are more likely to get posted. If they are short AND relevant to what is on the program, even better.

So no more 500-word essays on who you think is the best candidate and why.  There are other forums for that.

As always, we’ll start at 10p ET and stop at 11p ET.  See you then!

Good Night Folks!

Elisa   March 13th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

i’m not a big fan of Obama so i hate to jump to his defense but i don’t think any of us would want to be judged by everything our friends and pastors say

Kevin,FL   March 13th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

I believe that man is a Racist, and a sexist

Rose, San Bernardino, Ca   March 13th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Senator Barack Obama need to make up his mind if he wants to take spiritual advise from his minister of the Trinity United Church of Chirst in Chicago. Plus when things get tough he distanced himself from things, people and issues that might threaten his change of being President. What does that tell us about the man?

Amy, Westchester, NY   March 13th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

hey AC – looks like a good show!

Adina   March 13th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Cool opening, showing all the correspondents.

Megan Dresslar   March 13th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I am agree with Lisa!!!!

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   March 13th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Hate speech that’s what it is. The Pastor should be saying I’m sorry.

Lostfigs   March 13th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Awsome new intro!

Janelle, WY   March 13th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

The Obama preacher story is only a story because the media is making it a story! Come on CNN! Obama can’t control what a preacher says in a sermon.

Michael, NC   March 13th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Wow…just watching the clip of that pastor frustrates me. What kind of service is that and what kind of message is that? that does not belong in church period.

Amy, Philly, PA   March 13th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Sigh, so I guess people are finally convinced that he’s not a muslim? Is anyone else really tired of these surrogate/supporter wars? Ok ok we get it. People associated with the campaigns say really awful things.

Minou, New York City   March 13th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

That man is offensive!

Angela Green, Hamilton, ON   March 13th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

You can have a spiritual advisor and not align yourself with everything they say. I think Barack has been more than clear in the way he has run his campaign on what he really believes.

Lilibeth   March 13th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

The pastor’s on vacation, not available…how convenient…

Megan Dresslar   March 13th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

yes, I am agree with guys!!!

Jo Ann   March 13th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

I’d like to know why it took so long for the media to bring this to the attention of the voters. It is obviously racist and sexist.

Deepali- CT   March 13th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

He is even using offensive slang! the “N” word.

Natalie   March 13th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Get real he can’t be responsible for his preacher’s comments. We sit in church and are not responsible for what our pastor say. How many of you are super close to your pastor. No Anderson not fair at all.

EJ - Ohio   March 13th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

If his pastor really wants to support Obama he shouldn’t be out making those statements. If he really has Obama’s interests at heart he would back down and just not say anything controversial about Obama. Obama doesn’t need that. His remarks play into those fears several have of someone named “Barack Obama”.

Jolene   March 13th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Heck with what Obama thinks, I can’t believe his congregation was actually clamping to the Pastor’s remarks.

Bart from Chicago   March 13th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

This happened 25 Dec.07 ? What took so long? If this was anyone else it would have come out a long time ago.

Renee   March 13th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I go to church to get lifted UP! Not scream at! Who wants to hear politics at church?

Adina   March 13th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

He was raised by a white woman, is the pastor forgetting that?

Sharon   March 13th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Sorry, but Obama went to this Church for 20 years, and that pastor is his spiritual adviser. There is no way he can get elected in red states now. No way. You all may not want to admit it, but he is now unelectable.

dwight   March 13th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I agree that this is not something that should be in a church sermon, but Obama was asked about this and answered it a long time ago.

Natalie   March 13th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

You are so right Anderson with your last comment, come on people.

Stacy   March 13th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Will 360 be looking into McCain’s similar problem? (Don’t take that to mean I have a problem with the Obama story.)

Rose, San Bernardino, Ca   March 13th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

What would Christ say?

Billi   March 13th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Anderson….shame on you for suggesting that the CLintons are behind this. FOX had this.. ABC had this before you. Clinton is not fanning this……..you are way over the line here. Be fair!

Janna   March 13th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

I liked the “he’s like an old uncle” response. Puts it in perspective. The same could be said to Ferraro’s comments.

kevin lynch   March 13th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Racism is HORRID!!!!!! Don’t give this guty a free pass!!! He is what he is; he is preaching hate on xmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Megan Dresslar   March 13th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Pastor is idiot! he did not suppose say “n” word in congregation.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   March 13th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Loved seeing everyone around the studio….very cool stand ups

Natalie   March 13th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Suppoters aren’t always politically correct, they don’t have advisors.

Tony   March 13th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

CNN is engaged in distraction politics by brining up questionable videos of Obama’s pastor. Where are the stories on the Clinton’s and their shady backers? In your pursuit of Obama over the last two weeks…I am still looking to see the same critical reporting on Hillary and her shady practices, friends and dealings. You guys are acting like FOXNEWS. The Clinton’s are masters of PR.

Margie, Virginia Beach, Va   March 13th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Hi Anderson,
The sermon should have been kept private. How in the world did it get on youtube.

question. Money from the church, is it tax deductable for the church?

SHARON   March 13th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Anderson:

Your analysts have missed the big difference here. The pastor is not just another supporter that stands there and introduces him. Barack Obama has made a conscious choice to actively seek out this congregation for 20 years, use him for spiritual guidance and even take his sermon as the name of his book. Obama has heard this kind of hatespeak before, and has chosen to remain there anyway.

Even an old uncle needs to get left behind sometimes. And, what does that say about his hope for a better America? Not much.

StevenCee   March 13th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

I too wonder why we don’t hear anything about Hillary’s “questionable supporters”, or McCain’s? McCain said it pretty well, “Just because someone supports HIM, doesn’t mean he agrees with everything that person says or believes”!

Why do we (& I mean YOU the media) insist on candidates “disavowing” or whatever, this person & that? Tacky…..

Chris-Chicago, IL   March 13th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

I really don’t get it. When a Clinton supporter says someting inflammatory, it’s disgraceful and should be repudiated but when an Obama supporter says something even WORSE, it’s sad we’re talking about it. WHAT!?

Derrick Eral Brown   March 13th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

In reference to Senator Obama’s Pastor’s Christmas Day sermon, he’s absolutely correct. Senator Clinton has no clue what it means to be a poor Black man raised by a single mother any more than Senator Obama knows what it’s like to be a White woman living in Chappaqua. It’s a given, let’s move on….

Tracey Allan, Manchester UK   March 13th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Once again, I have been let down by CNN International, who seem to be blissfully unaware of the clocks going forward in the US…

Whoever was moderating this yesterday, they responded to Cheryl K from South Africa saying “we’ll look into it and get back to you”. I mailed the CNN International website yesterday, but I’m not optimistic of a response. Hope you guys can help me and your many international viewers with some info :)

MODERATOR: Tracey – we are looking into it. Not an easy fix.

Jim   March 13th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Why are you guys spending time on this nonsense? Why aren’t you people talking about critical issues this country is facing, like Peak Oil and reducing the National debt??

Diane   March 13th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

If you journalist had not been so mesmerized by Obama, his rallies, and understood spiritualism, you would have delivered the present news of Jeremiah Wright and Trinity Church many months ago!!

anderson cooper   March 13th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Good evening everyone. Another busy night tonite.. you should have seen the makeup room here with all the larry king guests.. i dont think ive ever seen so many escorts, pimps, and madams in one office at the same time. a lot of makeup and hairspray flying around.

MIKE in Phoenix   March 13th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Anderson –

I can’t believe that you implied that the Clinton’s we’re responsible for the story about Obama’s minister being ‘out there’ in the media and your suspicions were quickly echoed by your other 2 CNN reporters. Had it not been for your only Black commentator your viewers would have come away with the impression that this was Hillary Clinton’s fault, and not FOX news.

The reason why things like this are now so controversial is because none of you intensely vetted Obama in the first place.

Mike In PHX

Fred Hartshorn   March 13th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Regarding your Rev. Wright piece:

A sermon, likely 45 minutes, chopped down to about 4 minutes on Youtube, parsed into to two 10-second soundbytes separated by incendiary interpretation. Get thee back to Edward R. Murrow.

James   March 13th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

I am becoming more disillusioned with Obama by the day

Cheryl,Rhode Island   March 13th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

ummm Tony..what about Geraldine Ferraro?? Not the best publicity for the Clintons and was covered by CNN

kate   March 13th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Obama was married by this man, he baptized his two children and Obama has donated to this church for 20 years. He inspired Obama’s first book. If you don’t agree with someone, hObama should have left the church years ago. If you listen to the entire sermon, he is very hateful to America. Very disturbing video in it’s entirety.

Anthony   March 13th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

So I can assume that the pastors of Sen. Clinton and Sen. McCain’s churches are in line with everything they believe? I can’t wait to hear Sen. Clinton’s pastors thoughts on gay marriage. I guess you will be covering that tomorrow Anderson.

Margie, Virginia Beach, Va   March 13th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Florida and Michigan residents are the ones being hurt here…sad but another issue for the future so we dont repeat the past.

Amy, Westchester, NY   March 13th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

OMG AC – that last comment was hysterical! hahaha

Lilibeth   March 13th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Yeah!!! Justice for the Skittles kid! Sweetness rules! Sweetness prevailed!

Bob   March 13th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Once again going easy on Obama. You didn’t even show the worst part of the Pastor’s sermon. These are the facts; this man married Barack & Michelle. Barack has attended this church for 20 years. The title of Barack’s book AUDACITY OF HOPE comes from the Pastor’s popular sermon. Bottom line – you’re know by the company you keep. After 20 years Barack wants to distance himself? Get real – if this was Hilary’s Pastor the media would be screaming bloody hell. Get off the double standard. Barack has some hard questions to answer. Either he’s this man’s follower or a hypocrite. Which one is it?

Lola Brown   March 13th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I cannot believe that CNN is becoming the National Inquirer of sleaze reporting. My goodness, are you that desperate for news? Your seemingly growing dislike of Barack Obama is subjective journalism at its worse. Unless you are going to report on everything that a pastor says about the candidates then let it go. Bring up Hagee again if you must. This is all old news and you all are not being the most trusted name in news as you stoop to new levels. Let this story go. It’s a non story!!!

Andrea Erhart   March 13th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I think it is outrages, that Obama doesn’t totally reject this pastor. Unbelievable, he acts like a racist while his the one using the race card on Hillary, shooting viciously against her for not even doing anything. I hope people wake up and really look what is REALLY going on here.

Big O   March 13th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Is this really news? How can Obama possibly be responsible for what his pastor says?

Renee   March 13th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

@ Tracey, UK and Blog Moderator : You can blame the US Government for this issue. The US is the only country right now for about 3 weeks to be on this time. We have increased our daylight savings time and many countries didn’t change there times. This year daylight savings time is about 3 weeks earlier and it was extended about 4 weeks this fall. CNNi probably made an executive decision not to match the US.

Heather   March 13th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

You know I really thought we had moved on from eight years ago in Florida but.. Here we go again prevote pres elect crisis!! Well at least there wont be any hanging chads!

Maya   March 13th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Well there is always some sort of shady thing around churches isn’t there we had all those minsters get caught for well we all know what…just because you go to the church doesn’t mean you agree with everything they say and Sen. Obama has said he doesn’t….aside didn’t you guys say the guy has retired already why are we still hearing about it?…I’d like to know what church Hillary goes to I mean why are we reporting on Obama’s side only?….

Sam   March 13th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

It seems when Hillary’s surrogate or supporter makes a controversial statement, the media cannot cover it enough and they go as far as calling HRC a racist, but when it is Obama’s the media likes to make a one day story only. Now, the talking line is “Ron Paul as a presidential candidate espouses the same view as Obama pastor”.
The question is, what does Obama believe privately? Does he hold the same views as the pastor in private. And why is the Obama camp so extra sensitive about the issues of race?

I don’t believe that history will be kind to the media the way they have treated Hillary in this election.

Minou, New York City   March 13th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

MOM! That’s hilarious!

Jolene   March 13th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Anderson: You mention Andrew Sullivan’s blog but you never have him on as a guest anymore. Why not?

Alys- ON, Canada   March 13th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

aww poor fish lol

Adrian   March 13th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Anderson,

It is time to get back to some real news. Why do you talk about bubble gum topics every night? (Half hour on Spitzer) I live in New Orleans and your reports from here are excellent and appreciated. What about Puerto Rico moving from a caucus to a primary format? What about asking both candidates whether splitting the votes in half is an option? The most important question is why is gas high? Is it because oil costs more or the value of the dollar is at half its value. from a couple of years a go. Gas is $3.25 a gallon. If you add a 50% increase in the value of the dollar it would be $1.62. C’mon Anderson keep them honest!!!

Jolene   March 13th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Why is it I can’t help but feel bad for the poor fish!!!

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   March 13th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

The mother brought the bucket and I’d give that kid the mop.

Elisa   March 13th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

i sure hope all the fish survived

Tracey Allan, Manchester UK   March 13th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

FAO Moderator – I appreciate that. I got beat out by the clock last night when I wanted to respond. I guess watching AC 360 out of sync will do that… ;)

Anderson, “i dont think ive ever seen so many escorts, pimps, and madams in one office at the same time” – that made me laugh way too hard… *almost* makes up for not being able to see the show for another hour… :)

debbie in Fl   March 13th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

NO NEW VOTE IN FLORIDA

Don’t we have better things to do with 10 Million Dollars???

I mean really…there are prostitutes that don’t know how they’ll pay their rent let alone vote!!!!!

Maya   March 13th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

OK guys, I am having a fight for the remote here… Can I watch AC on the CNN website?

MODERATOR: Maya – you can view select segments of the show and download our podcast at cnn.com/360. But you can not view the entire show.

Sandra   March 13th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Hello everyone, can someone explain what’s up with all the racial slurs coming from both campaigns and does anyone think what Obama’s ex-pastor said is true?

erica hill   March 13th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Alys — good point about the fish – hope they survived!

Margie, Virginia Beach, Va   March 13th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

@Anderson:
The Man Act, LOL, how appropriate for this segment….

DAnne   March 13th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Predominately Black Churches have always been avenues to express the views of certain sects of the community…that doesn’t mean we agree with everything expressed. Wright is not a political figure, Ferraro is and as such is held to a different standard, meaning she is required to be politically correct.

Jessica, Bourbonnais Illinois   March 13th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Some people are wondering why this is still in the news and I think that this segment explains it best. Spitzer did quite a bit of lying and conniving to hide his illegal behavior.

Donna New Milford, NJ   March 13th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Let the people who decided to move the Florida and Michigan primaries pay for the revote.

Heidi   March 13th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

If you guys want the campaigns to be about the issues, then report on the issues! Give me a break. If everybody was guilty by association, we would all be in trouble.

Liz - Ontario, Canada   March 13th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Ok, I give up. This is censorship what the moderator is doing. ABC News posts all the comments..all 1500 of them. We are not a bunch of idiots who need a moderator.

Megan Dresslar   March 13th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

@ Anderson,
very funny!

Angie   March 13th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I love AC360, but it’s time to bag the “Beat 360 caption-the-pic” bit. During that segment, I switched over for just a few moments to look at the cute doctor on ‘Dr. 90210′.

Heather   March 13th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

I feel really bad for Mrs Spitzer and their children. They cant watch TV because everyone and their unle is talking about it. They cant read the paper and they cant listen to the radio. Its terribly embarrassing having the whole planet talk about you. Mr Spitzer obviously has some problems and needs help. He without question was quite the multitasker. Living a double life

Gretchen   March 13th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

I need a moderator! I often say stupid things and am relieved to have somebody protecting me from myself.

Minou, New York City   March 13th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

@ Liz: unfortunately there are creeps out there who abuse the anonymity of all this, and Anderson apparently has a bunch of stalkers…

A. Jaring   March 13th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Barack’s church is a story- he listened to this man for 20 years. For someone who hates negative, devisive talk, I find it odd that he could sit week after week and listen to this racist.

Jolene   March 13th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

@Liz: I don’t think the moderators are worried about you, it’s those small few bad apples that spoil it for the rest of us.

Terri - Winnipeg Canada   March 13th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

love macadamia nuts….yummy. Sharing anderson?

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   March 13th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Oh Tobbin is such a sweetheart to bring back nuts for anderson :P

Adina   March 13th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Liz- go back and read the first night of live blogging and you’ll see why they have to moderate. Keep trying.

Lostfigs   March 13th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I feel bad for the poor prostitutes but these “high-end” ladies don’t get any sympathy from me.

erica hill   March 13th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Gretchen, I think we can all relate to that statement…

Billi   March 13th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

DAnne…..Wright is an advisor to Obama. CNN did not show much of the tape but his rant included praise of Obama. Ferraro is as linked to Clinton as this guy is linked to Obama. He was extremely sexist in his disgusting comments about the CLinton. Again, CNN did not show very much of this man’s rant.

Jojo   March 13th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

@ Anderson did they arrive by train LOL!

Drew   March 13th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Obama says he looks to his pastor guidance to make sure he is on the right path (does he mean Wright path?) How can you say that doesn’t matter. If David Duke was Hillary’s pastor/advisor would that be OK?

Scott   March 13th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Angie, I totally disagree, I love the 360 caption bit!
Keep up the great work AC and staff.

Jessica, Bourbonnais Illinois   March 13th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

What I don’t understand is why is it only a misdemeanor to solicit a prostitute and yet it is a crime to be the one selling your body. It seems to me that they should both be weighed equally.

Penny   March 13th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

I think he can only be expected to be accountable for his own expressed thoughts and actions, I really do not think it is fair to make him guilty by association.

erica hill   March 13th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Terri, he just passed them out to the crew

Lostfigs   March 13th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Liz; Trust me. I feel your pain. I’ve tried to post all night and I can’t get through. Still, I’m glad there is moderation here cause it can get hairy. Please stick with us…

Janet Rude   March 13th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

The Trinity Minister could have fanned Obama’s strengths and hardships in his upbringing without blasting Clinton as a rich white elitist. This type of commentary, although not endorsed by Obama, is just the type of video that will get tons of airtime in ads during the general campaign, and give many voters, regardless of their party, the very reason they need to keep a Democrat out of the White House if Obama wins the nomination.

Jolene   March 13th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

@Billi: I’m glad 360 didn’t show much of the Pastor’s rant, I heard enough thank you.

Lilibeth   March 13th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Wow, Jeff gave Macadamia nuts to Anderson but nothing to Lisa. LOL! The way I see it, Anderson should give a gift to Jeff…after all, Jeff agreed to be a guest while on vacation! LOL!

Moni   March 13th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

I forgot to add that it also seems that everybody has forgotten that Obama’s mother was white. He was raised in what appears to have been a loving, accepting and predominantly white environment. Where would Obama have developed the type of one-sided angry view of America that his pastor espoused? Just take a minute and think, people. Don’t get on every band wagon that passes. Good grief!!!

Jo Ann, Ohio   March 13th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Jeff is right, I don’t think Spitzer was targeted either. Weren’t they just following the money and it led back to him?

skm   March 13th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

A. Jaring, Good point. Hear it long enough.. it can get into your subconscious mind.

Wanda Thomas   March 13th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Why complain about the candidates not addressing the issues, when you spend so much time on things that are of no value or concern to the general public. yourself? Who cares about the gov. of NY’s fling with a prostitute? Enough already! I’d rather you spend time interviewing the presidential candidates, arranging more debates, or how about focusing on what’s happening with the economy. Please stick to more intellectual material…and stop catering to the ignorant. You should set higher standards for yourself as well as all the news reporters. And how about stop giving the protitute free advertising?

Lisa   March 13th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Anderson, why is that negative statements re Hillary never get posted, moderator, but your blog supports Obama slammers

Angie   March 13th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

When are we going to find out the identities of Clients 1 through 8? Equal time and all that. . .

Heather   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Anderson

You should locate the lady known as “The Mayflower Madam” She would know alot about this

Lostfigs   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Many prostitutes are forced into it.

erica hill   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

This reality check on prostitution is both sad and frightening…esp if the true statistics really are too bad to make public.

Phil   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Anderson,
Let the National Enquirerer take care of the rest of the Elliot Spitzer saga. The public at large nor do the people of New York need one more day to hear from him.

ann   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

I cant believe that goverment has now started to take away the peoples right to vote , the same people that spend $ and time to get the peoples vote are now taking that right away ! shame on them !

Raymond   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

If Spitzer is charged–clients 1-8 and the other unnamed johns need to be charged as well. You can’t arbitrarily enforce laws.

Michael, NC   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

The whole “pretty woman” segment is good. It shows the sides of prostitution that don’t get mentioned. It is wrong, dirty, and barbaric. There needs to be a real crack down.

Mary Huff   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

A comment was made from a viewer that Obama should leave the church if he does not agree with the comments of his previous Pastor. In that case should we all leave America because we don’t agree on what the Republicans say and do in relation to the country?

Darnell   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Obama loves his Minister, I love my minister. If i disagree with everything he said I would be long gone. He says fornication is wrong, but I disagree- Should I leave my Church

kevin lynch   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Penny; if you hang out at a barbershop, you usually get a haircut!

Cee   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Is Senator Obama also responsible for Hurricane Katrina? I saw a picuture of him in New Orleans.

Janelle, WY   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Come on! Can’t people enjoy their religion in peace?! Obama may not agree with some of the views of his former preacher, but that doesn’t mean he has to leave the church. Maybe he loves the congregation and some other views of the church. I believe his church is more open-minded about homosexuality, etc. I don’t believe for a minute that Obama has the same views his preacher vocalized in that clip.

david   March 13th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Please ask your legal eagles, what prevents Spitzer and Miss dupre’ saying that they met and talked this and that the whole night. She was asked to come to Dc because they were friends. Both parties are in clear.
What can anybody prove otherwise?

Sarah, Atlanta, GA   March 13th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

The prostitution facts peice was interesting. Good job, Tom Foreman.

Vincent   March 13th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Scary stats about the prostitutes.
And thats in AMERICA !!! Its bad enough hearing about it in less developed nations where people are being exploited in such ways, but to hear about it in ‘the land of the free’ is a bit sickening.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   March 13th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

oh my gosh we are finally going to see the Michelle Obama piece…..nothing big better happen for the next 10 minutes

chad   March 13th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

I don’t put any value into the latest video of Mr. Obama’s minister delivering a sermon about his perspective of power differences in the US. These statements are /his/ opinions – not Mr. Obama’s.

I place more value on the actions Mr. Obama has taken toward creating and mending relationships. Throughout his campaign, Mr. Obama has talked about his vision and acted upon his values. While he is not perfect, his acknowledgment of this clearly adds to his credibility.

erica hill   March 13th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

not sure if you saw the promise in our “behind-the-scenes” video today about the michelle obama profile, but wanted to let you all know it is coming up next. breaking news forced us to save it for a day or two.

jenn   March 13th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

Hi Anderson,

I think that Pastor Wright is right .I don’t see how speaking the truth is inflammatory, except that the media makes it so. A socialite such as Sen. Clinton would never endure all that a poor black person would and just look at how far he has come. That is the really story.

Jenn

sherron lout   March 13th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

If we had to be held accountable for everything our pastors say then there wouldn’t be a Catholic left listening to a Prist. Get off it. Quit trying to run the candidates down and lets get on with the ISSUES!!

Rose, San Bernardino, Ca   March 13th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

Michelle Obama is a very smart young lady, and would make a good first lady. Even thou I am a Hillary Clinton support.

Ronald, NC   March 13th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

Don’t you think the media is using the race issue to drive up ratings. I do not think the Clinton Camp can be blamed for this. You talk about how race is affecting the race every night. When you quote someone you don’t always show the entire quote….I don’t think putting little dots in the middle of the quote is sufficient.

Juston   March 13th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

Maybe this has been said about the Spitzer situation but the Dem gets caught with a hot girl and the Republicans gets caught with teenage boys that work for free or dudes in men’s restrooms. Not sure what else to make of that but hey Go Spitzer!!!

omecka   March 13th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

peeps, why is everyone acting shocked, everything that the pastor said is true. Rich white people rule america! How many poor blacks, asians, and latino have become presedents in US?

-Also, you could be Will Smith not able to get taxi in NY, i have seen it. let’s not kid ourselves. People don’t like to confront with reality, but reality will hunt us!

kevin lynch   March 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

He is his spiritual advisor!! Wake up America! Ofcourse it matters who you hang with!

Christine   March 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

You guys are too easy on Obama…I hope SNL is watching!

Bob   March 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

If a clergyman spouts hate, propaganda towards the nation and towards another race. Then one should leave or confront. Standing by for 20 years just does not cut it.

Maddox   March 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Comon’ Anderson, you have to cover the Trinity minister story because others are? It’s not a story until the media makes it one. Can we get back to coverage of the real issues please? You’re playing a part in lowering the bar. Don’t pass the buck. Take responsibility and then do something about it.

Diane   March 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Don’t forget… black men got the right to vote in 1870 while women of all colors finally won the right in 1920. Both Obama and Clinton are making history… the Pastor needs to zip it !!!

Elisa   March 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Lisa,
i don’t want to talk for anderson or anyone at 360 but there have been slams of everyone on here. Also several people have put nice things anout Barack here tonight

Gretchen   March 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Thanks for doing the prostitution story. The ILO 2005-6 report on child and forced labor estimated that there are 11-14 million forced laborers and 40% of those are in the sex trade. It is high time we heard more of their stories.

Aja Emmanuel   March 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

I just watched AC 360 and saw the piece about Barack Obamas pastor. Usually I don’t give a crap about these blogs but I just had to speak my mind on this one!
I think this has no business in the campaign and I could even tell Anderson felt uncomfortable reporting on this. He knows this is propaganda that is trying to bring a racial divide into the campaign.

Anderson if you read this I urge you to speak up on this and take a stand. I am a fan of yours and watch allot but this really pissed me off tonight!

I am a bi racial young man who is half white and half black. My mom is white and my dad is black. My dad left when i was little too.

I really identify with Barack and it’s not even about me being a person of color. I connect with Barrack because frankly over the past 8 years i have hated my country. Not because i dont want to love america but because i feel it has been hi jacked by the most vicious high level criminals. Finally i feel a bit of “HOPE” that we the people could actually have a voice and make a change. It’s not even about Barack.
It’s about the people.

If this election is rigged this time I will be the first one on the steps of the white house ready for revolt………

This Country is one step away from having it’s tea thrown in the Harbor!!!!

Change MUST happen this time!

Lizzy   March 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Wanda, good comment: “Enough already!”
And I agree with Phil’s comment about letting the National Enquirer report on trashy things.

EJ - Ohio   March 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Just as I hope Mrs. Spitzer eventually leaves Eliot, I also hope that “Kristen” milks this story for all its worth. Why not – go for it. Not exactly how she thought she would have her big break – but that’s how it happened.

Phil   March 13th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

As for the Pastor, the remark he makes on tape make what Gerry Ferraro had said recently look nice.
Ironically, some of you are astonished that Hillary is not even playing it up. Yet if she did you would rush to say: There she goes again.
Bottom line: Senator Obama should start looking into another Church.

Becca   March 13th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Finnnnally, the segment on Michelle Obama. Thanks guys!

Janelle, WY   March 13th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Erica, I disagree that the Spitzer story was “breaking news”!

Dionne   March 13th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

I agree that Pastor Wright’s comments did not need to include criticism of Clinton in order to make his point. Not appropriate. Obama has stated that Jeremiah Wright is his former Pastor. However, this may be a situation where it is necessary to “reject and denounce.”

Maya   March 13th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

David, I think the case became public after some money laundering issue. A large some of money was transfered from Sptizer’s account to this large international prostituition ring. So I guess thats why it has come to where it is today.

PS – I am ready to move on too… to another topic thats of interest to all of us…

Deb   March 13th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Michelle Obama the first lady? What a nightmare…good night.

SHAMARA   March 13th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

I believe it ’s important for people to know these statistics. Tom Foreman, kudos to you, because of your segment, it could make a difference in someone’s life tonight. The truth is an eyeopening experience.

Renee   March 13th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

@ Erica: The reality is nuts. What about the King of Pimps last night that had his own facts about 85% of married people have a sexless marriage in 5 years! I was in shock myself! I wonder where he got those stats. Tonight on LKL he said Kristen worked for him. Small world.

Lilibeth   March 13th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Hey, Anderson, since you’re doing profiles on presidential candidates’ spouses, how about doing a profile on….. Bill Clinton?…..no….just kidding…we already know him…gotcha!

Clare   March 13th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I keep wondering who are the people in Florida and Michigan who actually decided to move up the primaries and cause this huge mess – what are their names, what positions do they hold in these states, what are their solutions for this problem? Can you get one or more of these people on your show to explain themselves?
Thanks.

Jo Ann, Ohio   March 13th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Anderson, Thanks for not giving this story the “Pretty Woman” treatment. I was the viewer who sent in the “Pretty Woman” comments to the blog and feedback today.

Lostfigs   March 13th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

What can I say. I guess I got on the Moderators bad side cause I’ve tried to get in on the conversation for the past 30 mins. Uh well, I’ll try again tomorrow… ;o(

Watch this one make it!

Rocky @ The Alamo   March 13th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Hope the Minister story makes Saturday Night Live…….then everyone will be covering it!

Andrew S. Myers   March 13th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Your comment about this being “politics as usual” is troubling. Forget about the fact that your opinion is just that. You can’t presume to tell the voters what they ought to consider. You deliberately sanitized what the pastor said to lessen its impact (e.g. “goddam America” multiple times; citing Japanese bombing as a sign of our terrorism; say that Bill Clinton “did us like he did Monica Lewinsky,” referring to Clinton’s treatment of black people). The notion that one is not judged by close associations is naive and inaccurate. This has been his pastor for 20 years…baptized his kids…married him…and served as the inspiration for his book, “The Audacity of Hope.” The church recently gave the life achievement award to Farrakhan. This isn’t the problem of disagreeing with your “uncle.” This is closely associating yourself with a hate monger.

Michael, NC   March 13th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

ok seriously, people ranting about racism in america IS THE REASON for racism in our country. period.

Tony   March 13th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

The issue with prostitution in America is that there are resources to get out. I mean in comparison to places like Thailand and Cambodia which Anderson covered on, American prostitutes need not fear going to authorities to gain help. There is no wide-spread corruption in preventing a call girl who wants to get out of the business to do so. I think in South East Asia, there is too much at risk to leave.

Cheryl Dedrickson   March 13th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Anderson, as one of your guests said, character does matter. Obama has gone to this church for 20 yrs; he’s said Wright is his mentor. Obama’s proclaimed he has superior judgement than others. How does a father take his young daughters to a church where the “Pastor” (a term I use lightly) simulates sexual acts and swears from the pulpit? What kind of judgement is it for the possible future President of the US to attend a church where the “pastor” says not to sing “God Bless America” but “God Damn America.”

Heather   March 13th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Erica

You are right there are plenty of other jobs out there to do being intimate with a total stranger for money and servicing them is sad the lowest point one can go. Think about when she was born her mother looked into her eyes and thought about the wonderful future she would have not the men she would sleep with for money.

Carly,AL   March 13th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Gretchen i agree…i did a report for my english class about prositution that was forced and it just amazed me what people were getting away with…..

brenda   March 13th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Michelle’s short bio tonight should show the entire country that you can grow up poor but accomplish anthing in life as long as you are willing to work hard for it. This is the perfect reason why affirmative action needs to be done away with. She didnt need anyon’es help getting where she is today.

Luke Stavenau   March 13th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Im from FL and was wondering how the redo will work with people like my girlfriend who voted Rep in the first primary but has now changed to Dem. Doesnt that mean that she gets two votes?

omecka   March 13th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

The Clintons know that they are not going to win, so they want to spoil the general election for Obama. Hilary’s experience is bogus! 80 countries my ass_! She is counting visits that she made when she was entertaining the troops in Bosnia. Amy Winehouse can do that!

Michele   March 13th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Anders,
Love the show & Love Erica!!!
She is just to sweet.

I feel horrible for Spiters wife & as far as Obama goes, I think that like Spitzer he is to good to be true.

Maya   March 13th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Michelle Obama seems smart, like she has her head over her shoulders and has her own mind. I kinda like her!

julie   March 13th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Gosh, those stats on prostitution are alarming!
OK, enough about the pastor…I’ve had enough about the race issue. Haven’t we transcended this? Please!

Maureen T   March 13th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Anderson,
thanks for the background info on Michelle Obama, future first lady! She’ll make a great addition to the White House!! :)

Angel Manners   March 13th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

The show is called AC 360, he is fulfilling his role by covering all the angles, even the ones some might find disagreeable.

Kathy, Andover   March 13th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Read your comment about Larry King’s guests . . . you can be so funny, Anderson! So did you meet anybody nice? ;)

Renee   March 13th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

@ Cheryl: Read the article in the New Yorker last week on Michelle Obama. Her comments about America are a direct reflection of the pastor’s screaming preaching. Just my opinion.

val   March 13th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

You Guys Are Missing The Point!!

Obama knows very well the ATTITUDES and FEELINGS of people in this country like that of his pastor, which divide us further. And did Obama not say that one reason he is running for President is to initiate HEALING of such ATTITUDES! Give this man a chance to do just that.

He is influential and already making progress. I am seeing the media and others mimicking his VOCABULARY everyday , ALREADY.

jane   March 13th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Anderson,
Is the piece on Obama’s pastor suppose to make everyone forget about Ferraros’ racist comments last week? The pastor was addressing his congregation, and not addressing a newspaper or major news outlet. Also, this sermon was given in December and, he is not a part of Obama’s official staff.

debbie in Fl   March 13th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

I love Michelle’s strong will…she’s not trying to be something she’s not just to please other people. It is what it is!

Billi   March 13th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Cheryl,,,,excellent point about good judgment on the part of both a father and future president…….what parents would allow their children to hear this man in the church they chose as a family?

Rocky @ The Alamo   March 13th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Where are Obama’s daughters when the minister is using the “N” word? I thought church was to learn the “word of god” not the word of your “crazy uncle”!

Heidi   March 13th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Michelle Obama is a class act, just like her husband. They will bring respect back to the White House. We already know was Billary brings.

Carrie   March 13th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Working out at 4:30 in the morning?? Michelle Obama is Superwoman!

EJ - Ohio   March 13th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

“Michelle’s short bio tonight should show the entire country that you can grow up poor but accomplish anthing in life as long as you are willing to work hard for it. ”

So all the people who are poor and losing their homes and applying for public assistance are just that way because they are lazy.

Yeah ok.

It doesn’t always work out as neatly as you put it.

Angel   March 13th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Bashing Hillary while showing Obma’s wife as a saint Unbelievable!!

Robert   March 13th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Just when we thought all family values were thrown out the window with the Spitzer scandal, reminiscient of the Clinton scandal, along comes the Obama clan. Senator Obama’s realization of wife Michelle as the “rock” of the family has ensured the importance of leading the our country in the resurgence of family values by example.

Rhiannon Rede   March 13th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

At some point White people in America will have to realize that African Americans have a different experience in America than whites. I can never understand the pain of being a Jewish person with the pain of the Holocaust in my heart. This is the same experience African Americans have… a lingering pain. I’m sorry that institutional racism closes many whites off from this painful truth. This is where the pastors anger is from.

Amy, Westchester, NY   March 13th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

I don’t mind Obam, but I just can’t see Michelle in the WH. I was not impressed with her Larry King interview.

kevin lynch   March 13th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

This moderator lets all the anti clinton stuff get printed! Well you will get what you want; you had Bush for 8 years! From her thesis to now Michele has criticized the white race! Maybe her preacher is wearing off on them.

Billi   March 13th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Will they bring Jeremiah Wright to the White HOuse????

Lilibeth   March 13th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Michelle is one tough cookie! So disciplined! Working out at 4:30 AM! Yikes! I roll out of bed at 6:00 AM…not willingly… LOL!

Gretchen   March 13th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Tony–Sorry friend, but you are wrong on that. Read the stats on US sex trade. Many of these girls are forced labor, just like in other countries. They are beaten, held hostage, starved, threatened. It happens right here at home.

So, will the profile on MO include her “proud” comment, or her “black America will finally get it” (where’s that country? I thought it was the United States of America) comment, or the fact that she got a $200K raise after her husband made it to the Senate and earmarked $1M for her hospital? I didn’t think so.

Barack is simply driving a wedge in the crack he has observed. Very clever but not serving the country well… They’re lapping it up – hook, line and sinker. Irresponsible!!

Andy   March 13th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Anderson, why run the story if you are going to discount it as not being newsworthy throughout the entire post. This was the most biased story I have seen you run. You didn’t run the worst of the video’s and you constantly say it shouldn’t be an issue even though Barrack choose to attend this church for twenty years. This is an issue. Interesting that Barrack didn’t “distance” himself until the pastors radical positions became known, until then he was a “spiritual mentor”, hmmmm…

Megan Dresslar   March 13th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Terri - Winnipeg Canada   March 13th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

So we’re seeing Hillary, Bill and Chelsea on clinton’s side… but only Barack and Michelle on Obamas, can we even it up and show someone else on Barack’s side?? just please, not his spiritual advisor!

Adina   March 13th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

How can 360 be for Clinton and against Obama and at the same time for Obama and against Clinton. If you want to see real bias check out another network. 360 is so good at showing different stories from all sides. One night they may be a more negative about Obama and then one night more negative about Clinton. I wish everyone would stop accusing them of being bias. We all see what we want to see based on what side we’re on.

Jacqui Chan   March 13th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Angel if you watch 360 on a regular basis, 360 is not biased, they cover all 3 candidates fairly equally.

Billi   March 13th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

MODERATOR: Billi – we plan on showing Gary Tuchman’s report Friday night. CHECK OUT GARY’S BLOG.

It’s one thing if Obama himself were saying things like that, but how can he control what somebody else says? I think it is unfair to make assumptions about the church when all we have seen is a little clip.

Jolene   March 13th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Ok, I would like to know how you pick the Beat 360 winner? Is it a vote? So many submittals, it must be hard to choose.
