Live Blog from the Anchor Desk 3/12/08

Breaking News tonight in the Eliot Spitzer sex scandal.  The New York Times is putting a face to the name "Kristen" – the name of the prostitute allegedly used by Gov. Spitzer.  We have a reporter working to find out more about her.

And Silda Spitzer, for the second time this week she's been seen standing by her husband.  What message does that send to women?

We'll talk politics: Geraldine Ferraro's comment and the latest plans in Florida's primary fight.

As always, we'll start posting comments at 10p ET and close at 11p ET.  See you there!

I'm hurt...hurt... that those people think Mrs. Ferraro is racist. 😉

Geraldine Ferraro may have had a two-pronged intention. Make Sen. Obama get off his message again, and put Hillary back in the limelight. We have to remember these 2 women are politicians first and women second. In the zero-sum game, Obama probably got the loss on this one.

i agree with you erica, but it just seems like it happens so much that it's annoying and ridiculous, yet i understand and agree the dicussion factor.

I cannot believe you are laughing at this woman and her family. How tacky.

The democrats are really beginning to shoot themselves in the foot. Spitzer will hurt Hillary as will Geraldine Ferraro's comments. All Obama has to do is tippytoe through the mind field...

Thanks for moving on Anderson, lets talk about the FL votes already.

Sara, it's just like the Mark Foley scandal too.

As he said on "America's Most Wanted": "If I were one of these sickos..."

Yeah, subsequent events were highly ironic...

Ferraro shouldn't have blown up, it would have been a lot easier if she just would have apologized. Not sure if her resigning does anything for either Obama's or Clinton's campaign. Politics...gotta love it.

I'm really shocked at Geraldine Ferraro's words. Call me naive but the ugliness of this campaign is surprising me.

    Cracking me up, too, Amy.

Anderson. I really think Geraldine’s comment is very appropriate.
In all honesty here are the facts by her comment, which really isn't racist.

All of our presidents have been white males in the past. If Barak was a white male as well as Hilary and both were pushing their issues and speaking the way they do about them, don’t you think people would look at Barak as a preacher and not a president?

Please stay on this story until charges are made on Spitzer. This is a HUGE story! Please stay on this man. You should have heard Dobbs this afternoon on his show!

How do we know that Spitzer, while Attorney General, was not prosecuting other escort services in an attempt to help Emperors Club VIP (and other agencies he may have used) close their competitors. They could have been blackmailing him or he may have had other reason to help out.

    School Disciplines Kindergartener, Mother Outraged
A local mother is outraged because of a bathroom...something usually regarded as unsanitary no matter how clean. Vanessa Copeland's son Braylon is in Kindergarten at Springdale Elementary School. On Friday, she says his teacher made him clean urine off the bathroom floor. He threw the paper towels in the toilet, clogging it. She says the teacher then made her son unclog the toilet with his bare hands.

Don't you realize that many people had knowledge of Spitzer's sexual appetite – someone had to recommend the service to him....

Face it – Spitzer pissed off the wrong people and they decided to do something about it. He left himself exposed and is now paying the price. I really don't care about his life between the sheets but there is a difference between a regular schmo doing what he did and an acting governor....

Power, Money, Sex & a bunch of savage politicians who are like wolves smelling the blood of a man who wanted to clean up their corruptions on the Wall Street.
How sad to see this man fall. We probably won't see another seeker of justice for a long time to come, and the corrupt big money hounds on Wall Street will have a field day for the foreseeable future.

There is more to life then sex.

Yikes, now the brother is talking. As much as I don't condone the behavior by both Mr. Spitzer and the prostitute, I'd rather see them get through this themselves, without the other people talking...

Welcome back, Erica- missed you on the blog last night. We are tired of the story because it is not relevant to us. It isn't new news really. Hypocricy and sex scandals in government? yawn...

Anderson, I don't think anyone should blame Mrs. Spitzer for standing by her man. She needs to think about her family. As a child growing up with a father's womanizing, I watched my mother suffer through many many years. She always thought about her family first and tried to hide my father's so called "secret life." I hope and pray that the girls can face this difficult time they are about to face. My mother always put on a smiling face despite all the suffering she was going through. So folks, lets all give poor Mrs. Spitzer a break.

    Anderson:

Dr. Drew's thought that Spitzer may not feel guilty is kind of what I felt when I watched the resignation this morning. He really needs some serious down time (prison?) to contemplate and understand who he really is in conjunction with the rest of the universe. He looks like he is still holding himself up on a pedastal.

Prostitution is oldest profession and the most violent.
Patronizing prostitutes is an addiction, he probably has been engaging and struggling with his addiction for a very long time.

Dr. Drew just mentioned that he feels bad for Spitzer's wife. I agree with him. I can't imagine what this woman is going through & feeling. I give her a lot of credit for standing by her husband. She must really love him.

    @ Jessica,
you are right. It must be difficult. But isnt that a private issue for the gov. family.. there is way too much talk bout this issue honestly. i feel for his wife, but its time to put their heads together to work things out privately..
and get the media ppl away from the apt of the hooker girl.

Unfortunate, for him, that Spitzer got caught. NOW It's only proper that he should be roundly castigated by press and spouse, and all aggrieved citizens. All women are enraged, of course. I doubt if that many men give a hoot, other than the pious knee-benders, who, after all, have an image to maintain.

He really changed the path of his whole life by getting involved in this situation. I mean people were talking about Spitzer as a potential presidential cand. down the line. It must be so incredibly embarrassing for his wife and poor daughters. Really a shame.

That's a curious response Anderson. You think its an "interesting" story. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it the media's job to report the stories that are IMPORTANT to all Americans? I think most peoples problems with this isn't the fact that you cover it, its the fact that we're now in the second half of your opening hour and you have covered nothing else.

Oh the idle curiosity we have. Mr. Spitzer will pay in many ways for his deceiving many people . I am not sure what the girl's picture has to do with anything. I'm sure his wife doesn't need to see it or his children.

So many problems in this country and we are concerned with this ? He is out of office. NY is moving on with a new governor.

If only Clinton had done the same so the country could not be drowned in blue dress stories for 2 years. I don't think Clinton did much in his last 2 years as president due to the distractions of lawyers, his family problems, and the public admonition. He hung around to be hated.

And now the country seems to love him again . Go figure.

Do men and women really view this issue differently? Relationships are very complicated and the women should do whatever she thinks is right in the situation.

Okay. So how come the "hooker" wasn't standing by her man? Couldn't he afford one more grand for an hour of her time ?
Or she could have thrown that in as a thank you for the memories.

Let's get back to the real issues. We have an Election going on. Some guy that can't seem to keep his pants up. That's a joke he should have known better as as public offical who likes to throw stones,The ones i feel sorry for is his wife and childern, not the little hooker rhat got caught. The world is the victim. It's easy to play sorry after everyone learns who you really are.

Granted, I believe there are FAR more important things to be discussing on the news. This is a topic that is going to be overly discussed and analzyed. Bore. Give us news that we need. Anderson, you're the best one to do the job.

Talking about the "other woman" is not right – it's Spitzer you should be talking about. She does what she does. The story is about what a hypocrite Spitzer is.
