Live blogging is back, but wait until 10p!
On tonight’s program:
- the Dems ratchet up the rhetoric
- a live interview with the latest Presidential candidate to enter the race, Ralph Nader (Do you have any questions you’d like Anderson to ask him?)
- and the shocking story of a young teen murdered in a high school in california because he was openly gay
| Kevin,FL |
February 25th, 2008 10:00 pm ET Anderson: ASK RALPH WHY? DID HE ENTER THE RACE PLEASE! |
| Lorie Ann |
February 25th, 2008 10:01 pm ET Ralph Nader is not going to be a huge factor, in my opinion. But he may take some votes away from Obama. Lorie Ann, Buellton, Calif. |
| Sarah, Atlanta, GA |
February 25th, 2008 10:02 pm ET Hilary and Obama keep acting like children on the playgorund. |
| Lorie Ann |
February 25th, 2008 10:02 pm ET When it’s down to the wire, I think the anger will swell between the candidates. Batten down the hatches and pass the ear plugs. Lorie Ann, Buellton, Calif. |
| Mattie Perry |
February 25th, 2008 10:03 pm ET Mr. Nader, you must know that you cannot win, so why do you get into the race? |
| Kathy |
February 25th, 2008 10:03 pm ET March 4th could determine the Democratic candidate? PLEASE, OH PLEASE, OH PLEASE!!!!!! I’m sick of all this!!! |
| Maureen T |
February 25th, 2008 10:04 pm ET Shame on you Hilary Clinton. It seems like she’s grasping at straws! I’m starting to lose respect for Senator Clinton! |
| Claire in Birmingham, AL |
February 25th, 2008 10:04 pm ET Ralph Nader is on the level of Ross Perot and, forgive me, Ron Paul… he’s the truely entertaining part of the Presidential elections. |
| Kevin,FL |
February 25th, 2008 10:04 pm ET I dont think the media should count out Hillary Just yet.. Remember Bill Got The Nomination in June of 92 |
| Jo Ann |
February 25th, 2008 10:05 pm ET Ralph has a point right? |
| Kevin,FL |
February 25th, 2008 10:06 pm ET I think the US Presidential Process needs to have a time limit of 7 months.. |
| Melinda |
February 25th, 2008 10:06 pm ET Here’s a question for Nader… Does he realize he really doesn’t have a shot at winning and if so, doesn’t he feel bad about effectively wasting millions of dollars so he can run to not win? |
| Shawn, Pa |
February 25th, 2008 10:06 pm ET From her Shame on You, to the Celestial Choirs, to her Im So Proud to be Here with Barack to Monday’s Kenya photo - these are all perfect examples of HIllarys chameleon - like, old tyme political religion. It’s exactly this type of politics I hate and dont want anymore! |
| Amy, Philly, PA |
February 25th, 2008 10:08 pm ET Obama’s message is all about the possibility of recovering from the Bush years. Hillary sounds like she’s ridiculing that and saying it’s impossible, why does she want to be that candidate??? |
| Laura H |
February 25th, 2008 10:11 pm ET I agree. I’m losing respect for Senator Clinton. To me it just seems she has lost hope and is pulling out her final straws. |
| Kayle |
February 25th, 2008 10:11 pm ET Thats it, I say we raise Kennedy and Regan from the dead and have a show down. They would probably be more civil to each other than Obama and Clinton. |
| Claire in Birmingham, AL |
February 25th, 2008 10:11 pm ET Does Nader honestly think he has a shot? Does he expect the laws of math and whatnot to suddenly turn in his favor? What’s the motive? |
| Sarah |
February 25th, 2008 10:12 pm ET How can you guys criticism Hillary. How many pundits on cnn were saying that Hillary had to get tougher on Obama and that the debate was flat. She can’t win. |
| Andrew, Canada |
February 25th, 2008 10:13 pm ET What is Nader’s view on the middle east and Israel? Specifically his views on peace in the middle east. what would he do about it.. Actually, I want to know what all candidates think on that!! |
| Jen |
February 25th, 2008 10:13 pm ET i agree amy…100%… |
| Stacy |
February 25th, 2008 10:13 pm ET Ask Nader if he has any other hobbies he might explore besides running for president. |
| Natalie in NYC |
February 25th, 2008 10:13 pm ET Hillary is damaging herself immensely with these displays. Sad to see really. |
| Emily |
February 25th, 2008 10:13 pm ET What is going on in Iraq? Can we please see a report from Michael Ware soon. The election coverage is important but please let’s not forget our countrymen and women over there fighting for us. Thank you. |
| Max, Dallas, TX |
February 25th, 2008 10:13 pm ET I’m disappointed with Hillary’s campaign. I absolutely think the media has taken more of a shine to Barack Obama, but her campaign has some definite flaws. Perhaps if she regarded some of Barack’s points as a “non issue,” she’d be seen a “above it all” like Obama apparently is. |
| Elaine |
February 25th, 2008 10:14 pm ET Call me an idealist, but I think Nader stands for many “American” values that have gone down the drain. Why should I settle for a Democrat or Republican when they’re both effectively the same? I think it’s time for a third party candidate to WIN — and that man should be Ralph Nader. |
| Matt |
February 25th, 2008 10:14 pm ET Hillary is showing she’s a fighter and also showing how she is not a quiter. Has Obama ever showed that kind of vigor? I think it’s good. It’s her strong point. |
| Lisa K |
February 25th, 2008 10:14 pm ET Ask Ralph why he continues to enter the race when he knows that it will put a “hitch in the giddy” of the democratic race? |
| Jim, IN |
February 25th, 2008 10:15 pm ET For Nader: Ask him how he can bear running, when his involvement on the green ticket in the 2000 election may well have prevented the greenest candidate in history from winning the presidency. |
| Pamina |
February 25th, 2008 10:15 pm ET I ditto the same question as Kevin, why is Nader joining the race now? What is he hoping to gain from it? |
| Joseph |
February 25th, 2008 10:15 pm ET Her problem is not her gender… her problem is she expected the race to be over on Super Tuesday and was in denial that she would be challenged |
| Sarah |
February 25th, 2008 10:16 pm ET DeeDee: I think no matter what message Obama had, it is the old boys network and they would have supported him no matter what. |
| Helen, NY |
February 25th, 2008 10:16 pm ET Hillary is proving Obama right, she is the old politics that we are all tired of. A graceful exit would help Hillary appear caring about the Democratic Party. |
| suzanne |
February 25th, 2008 10:16 pm ET Here we go with a prime example for why American’s are sick of the way politicians act, (like 2yr olds). Hillary needs to stick to her ideas and quit throwing stones. GROW UP! |
| Laura, NJ |
February 25th, 2008 10:16 pm ET Hillary’s new “strategy” is, in my honest opinion, rather childish. It seems now that she is not very sure that she will get the Dem. nomination, and is now going out kicking and screaming. The constant criticism has got to stop. Not only is it immature, but it’s incredibly annoying! |
| Frank Jordan |
February 25th, 2008 10:16 pm ET Sen. Clinton is undermining an image that she and Bill worked for years to create, the image of idealistic “young” crusaders for a better world. Ever since the first World War there has been a split between idealists who followed Wilson, and “realists” who disparaged Wilson’s vision of a new global community for peace. |
| Sarah Bradley |
February 25th, 2008 10:16 pm ET I think that a woman in the white house would be great but I think Hillary has “been in the game ” tooo long and she isnt the woman that we need |
| Diane (Chapel Hill, NC) |
February 25th, 2008 10:16 pm ET Hillary’s tactics are very untactful and déclassé. I have lost all faith and trust in her and for that, she will not be getting my vote. |
| Stacy |
February 25th, 2008 10:19 pm ET I second Emily’s question. Where are the Iraq reports? Anderson, you said a few weeks ago that Michael Ware would be on the show. What happened? |
| Peter Albahsous, Mayflower, AR |
February 25th, 2008 10:20 pm ET It is funny how Pakistan was able to elect a women prime minister… and we in the U.S think “we are more modern than them” can’t go beyond the idea that there is a possible women president. |
| Andrea, Colorado |
February 25th, 2008 10:20 pm ET How about Clinton and Obama just join forces? (I know… highly unlikely) |
| Lorie Ann |
February 25th, 2008 10:20 pm ET Will Ralph Nader take part in the remaining debates? Or isn’t he allowed as an Independent? Lorie Ann, Buellton, Calif. |
| Pati Mc. Camp Hill, PA |
February 25th, 2008 10:21 pm ET Your discussion with Dee Dee was fascinating and I love the fact that she can remain so unbiased concidering the fact that she worked for the Clinton’s. Thanks for having her on. I hope she comes back again. |
| Sarah, Atlanta, GA |
February 25th, 2008 10:21 pm ET Gary Busye is just plain weird. I would be so offended if I were Jennifer. He totally invaded her personal space. |
| Michelle N San Diego |
February 25th, 2008 10:32 pm ET Ralph Nader & Gary Bussy must have gone to the same Oscar pre-party. That fellow, Fellows has it right. I just listened to Nader’s interview & it left me saying “What the Hell”. |
| anderson cooper |
February 25th, 2008 10:33 pm ET hey folks.. sorry im just logging on.. hope you had a good weekend… Stacy - we had planned on having Ware on, and then he got sent to pakistan to cover elections there, and our own political coverage took over the broadcast…. im actually hoping to return to iraq myself soon and/or Afghanistan… but i hear you.. we should have some updates from the region. |
| Shawn, Pa |
February 25th, 2008 10:35 pm ET Kudos to AC and 360 for covering this tragic story from california. Just when you think we’re moving ahead in this country, a woman and a black man running legitimately for president, we’re shooting someone for coming out. |
| Kumar, Chicago |
February 25th, 2008 10:36 pm ET Did the school authorities know there was a danger to the boy’s safety prior to the shooting?? |
| Sarah Bradley |
February 25th, 2008 10:36 pm ET Kids are so hateful…I hope that the parent are being held accountable also..I know I raise my daughter to treat people equally, |
| CG |
February 25th, 2008 10:37 pm ET Diane, Are Barak’s actions “very untactful and déclassé”. when he atacks Hillary? And neither will Barak be getting my vote!! |
| Sara, Oklahoma |
February 25th, 2008 10:37 pm ET How can they say that the shooter shouldn’t be tried as an adult? He killed someone! He should be tried as an adult. No matter what his age. |
| Maureen T |
February 25th, 2008 10:38 pm ET Tolerance is what is needed…People have to stop believing that being gay is a choice. Individuals are born that way… |
| Cate from Toronto |
February 25th, 2008 10:38 pm ET Way to go, Hillary……. !!! Things are looking up…… even from way up here in Canada….. Texas and Ohio are yours…. !!! Barack is starting to sound tired……. ‘the celestial skies are opening up”…. haha!! Anderson, please comment on whether commenters are Rep or Dem… re: the first two at beginning of show…. lI iked David’s comments, the lady was way off track…… |
| Kevin,FL |
February 25th, 2008 10:38 pm ET Andrea I agree with you! Clinton Obama… after this is done that will be the ticket the DNC wouldn’t have it anyother way |
| Kellie, MS |
February 25th, 2008 10:38 pm ET Can you guys give us some updates on the Middle East? There is so much going on in both Iraq and Afghanistan that it’s a shame to skip reporting anything. Anderson, it would be great to hear your thoughts/review on Bhutto’s book that just came out. I saw her co-author being interviewed by Jon Stewart the other night and would love to hear more. |
| Erica Hill |
February 25th, 2008 10:40 pm ET No matter how many times i hear stories like this about bullying, I am constantly amazed. I know how mean kids can be - I remember Jr high and HS - but the levels of bullying we hear about, and ending in death… it is frightening. I have to hope that people will begin to take lessons from these tragedies and that parents will use this as an opportunity to talk to their kids. |
| Sophie |
February 25th, 2008 10:40 pm ET As the mother of a gay son, I can’t tell you how scary this story is to me, but it’s important for everyone to hear. Thank you for showing it. |
| Jo Ann, Ohio |
February 25th, 2008 10:40 pm ET I don’t think that bullying is taken seriously enough. Some people may consider it “kids will be kids,” but didn’t we learn anything since Columbine? |
| sam3dogs ( Steve ) |
February 25th, 2008 10:40 pm ET Anderson, bullying is no more than racism at the earliest ages |
| Claire in Birmingham, AL |
February 25th, 2008 10:41 pm ET He’s not going to be tried as an adult?! Are you kidding? He came into the school with a GUN in his pocket with the intention to shoot that poor boy. It was premeditated murder. |
| namasmama |
February 25th, 2008 10:41 pm ET So how did the shooter bring a gun into the school in the first place? |
| NewsGirlNM |
February 25th, 2008 10:42 pm ET The story about the boy killed at school in CA is too sad for words. My best friend was bullied in school because he was gay. Unfortunately this is not a new thing. |
| Max, Dallas, TX |
February 25th, 2008 10:42 pm ET I hope 360 keeps on this crime. The shooter, in my opinion, knew exactly what he was doing when he shot Lawrence twice in the head. There is no reason to be lenient in his punishment based on his age in this regard. |
| Marcia |
February 25th, 2008 10:42 pm ET Kellie I just finished the Bhutto book and it’s really good - the Islamic world from a woman’s perspective - priceless. |
| Debbie, Louisiana |
February 25th, 2008 10:42 pm ET This story about the hate crime makes me physically sick and I can’t believe the things human beings are capable of. Jennifer Garner should just come clean. She was turned on by that kiss. In a big way, too. After all, wouldn’t we all be??? A crazy has been actor in a constant stupor just gets me sooo hot and bothered. Be afraid, Ben Affleck, be very afraid… |
| Matt N |
February 25th, 2008 10:43 pm ET I’m really glad that AC 360 is high lighting the story of the openly gay student who was murdered in cold blood. It shines light on bullying in schools, and will hopefully start a conversation on how schools should deal with sexuality and bullying. Kudos to the NY Phil too! |
| Josie |
February 25th, 2008 10:43 pm ET speechless for this bully case, it’s unbeliveable and no point at all. shoot him because he is a gay?! |
| Kylie-Ayn |
February 25th, 2008 10:43 pm ET These stories, like the one of the child murdered because of his sexuality, just act as a reminder that there needs to be something done. We need education about tolerance. |
| Stacy |
February 25th, 2008 10:43 pm ET Thanks for answering my question, Anderson. I hope your trip works out because I’d love to see the coverage. |
| Jo Ann, Ohio |
February 25th, 2008 10:44 pm ET There is no doubt about it, the murder of Lawrence King was a hate crime. As long as gays and lesbians are looked down on by traditional religious groups and other organizations these crimes will continue to happen and will not be taken as seriously as those against other groups of individuals. |
| Mehroz Baig |
February 25th, 2008 10:45 pm ET Aside from teaching our kids tolerance we also have to make them realize that they cannot take guns to solve their problems–school shootings have become an epidemic and there’s got to be an emphasis on dealing with difficult situations in other ways. |
| suzanne |
February 25th, 2008 10:45 pm ET Thanks Anderson for the piece on the murder of a gay teen! Everyone is so worked up over this election, this murder is something to REALLY be concerned about. I’m getting really tired of hearing whose slamming who……..Instead lets be raising awareness of what is truly happening in America! |
| anderson cooper |
February 25th, 2008 10:45 pm ET Some nights its easier to blog than others.. during commercial breaks i also re-write upcoming pages introducing stories, so im sorry that im not as engaged tonite… theres a bunch of other things im scrambling around doing right now… i think it would be fascinating to go to North Korea. |
| Kumar, Chicago |
February 25th, 2008 10:46 pm ET Christianne Amanpour is absolutely brilliant!! I’ve been watching her for years on CNN International. I think it’s great that the New York Philharmonic will be performing in North Korea. It was a bit disheartening hearing John McCain’s thoughts on the matter. What does he hope to gain from being so negative? |
| Greg S. in Chicago |
February 25th, 2008 10:46 pm ET Why do we tolerate parents saying they don’t want the subject of homosexuality brought up in schools - even if it is to teach tolerance? They wouldn’t be able to keep schools from teaching tolerance towards minorities, people of different religions, etc. Clearly, the parents are part of the problem as to why some kids become so full of hate that they would kill. What can a 14-year old possibly know about homosexuality to be able to build so much hate inside that he would kill, unless it is a belief that is taught in his home repeatedly? If kids are going to be corrupted at home, we should at least - as a society - do our best to diffuse the ignorance when the children enter the school system. Some things are just right vs. wrong, and wrong shouldn’t be tolerated to appease a bigot’s sensibilities. |
| Sarah Bradley |
February 25th, 2008 10:47 pm ET It is so great to see the progress In N Korea!!!!! hopefully it leads to more to come! |
| Jolene |
February 25th, 2008 10:47 pm ET Anderson: You mentioned bullying in schools is not something new. What are the stats? How many murders have there been? |
| Jen |
February 25th, 2008 10:47 pm ET erica…it’s both scary and sad. i’m curious…as a mother; what role do you think the victim’s poor family life and the killer’s parents play in all this? |
| Kevin,FL |
February 25th, 2008 10:48 pm ET Christiane Amanpour is simply one of the best reporters in the World |
| Lauren O, Hollywood, CA |
February 25th, 2008 10:48 pm ET Christiane Amanpour for president! At least she goes and talks to the North Koreans…. We need more diplomacy in action fascinating report btw |
| Lorie Ann |
February 25th, 2008 10:49 pm ET An update on North Korea is very welcomed. Please do some more on world news. I’m glad to see Christiane Amanpour back on ac360. Lorie Ann, Buellton, Calif. |
| Kathy Chicago,Il |
February 25th, 2008 10:49 pm ET One of our books for book club talked about bullying and the violence that followed. We had a great discussion about our own school district. Many times these kids are just ignored and expected to work things out themselves. We”ve just seen that that doesn’t work. My heart goes out to that young mans family. Another unnecessary tragedy. |
| Todd from NJ |
February 25th, 2008 10:49 pm ET So true Erica….Bullying has reached a whole new frightening level. |
| Heather Murrieta Ca |
February 25th, 2008 10:51 pm ET It is incredibly sad. What a sweet precious boy. All he wanted was to be loved and accepted. These are such universal things that we all want in life. Tolerance comes from the home. Parents teach their children by example how to treat others and also how to talk about people who are different. Its also the schools job as well. It takes a village we all are responsible . We need to teach tolerance in our words in what we say and in our actions. Children need to know what acceptable behavior is. |
| Tracey in Ohio |
February 25th, 2008 10:51 pm ET Anderson, isn’t there also another CNN correspondent in North Korea right now? I only caught a little bit this morning, but there was something about searching for family members- any update on that? |
| mary |
February 25th, 2008 10:51 pm ET it is interesting how music always manages to bring people together. |
| tina louise [imginger] - Detroit, MI |
February 25th, 2008 10:52 pm ET Intolerance for anything - for race, sexual orientation, beliefs, activities, whatever - is just an outrage. And where the heck are kids getting these guns? I think the parents are to blame. There is no supervision and too much detachment from their kids. Do they know their kids harbor these hateful attitudes?? And no one seems to know where the intolerance comes from - but I’d love for someone to take a good hard look at the sources. That includes the intolerance that is taught in religion, too! |
| NewsGirlNM |
February 25th, 2008 10:52 pm ET The NY Philharmonic is doing what music is meant to do, build bridges. I can only imagine how exciting this trip must be for the musicians. Major high-5 to Christianne Amanpour for her report! That takes some guts. |
| Ana |
February 25th, 2008 10:53 pm ET Hi Anderson! Thank you for giving us the pleasure of watching Christiane Amanpour on your show. i hope that you will give some news from Iraq and Afghanistan … |
| alexanderf348 |
February 25th, 2008 10:55 pm ET Yes, Lorie Ann, covering international news is definitely a positive for CNN. I never do catch CNN International, though. But I have glimpsed it on a few occasions. |
| Lorie Ann |
February 25th, 2008 10:56 pm ET Shot of the day..Guitar boy today..Voice of 360 tomorrow. Nix Gary Busey.. Lorie Ann, Buellton, Calif. |
| Kumar, Chicago |
February 25th, 2008 10:57 pm ET Lorie Ann, I agree with you. Many people get their news from AC 360 and I think you guys should give do more international coverage. |
